IRWIN RICHARD DOUGLAS Richard “Dick” Douglas Irwin, age 86, passed away at Seneca Place in Penn Hills on April 8, 2016. He was born March 31, 1930, in Pittsburgh to George Alexander and Helen (Douglas) Irwin. Dick was a 1948 graduate of Peabody High School, a veteran of the Korean War and a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church of Highland Park. Dick began a lifelong career in the floral business at age 15. In 1962, he purchased East End Floral Shoppe from Rose Gumto, his mentor and friend. A 1981 fire forced him to relocate the business from East Liberty to Shadyside. From that location, he served a wide clientele until he sold the business in 2014 and retired. Dick is survived by numerous cousins and friends who will remember his kindness and good nature. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday at McCABE BROS. INC. FUNERAL HOME, 6214 Walnut St., Shadyside, with funeral services following at 1 p.m. After the service, friends and family are invited to enjoy refreshments and share memories of Dick at the Pittsburgh Athletic Association, 4215 Fifth Ave. A private interment will be in the Temple of Memories Mausoleum in Allegheny Cemetery. KUCHEL ANNE PUHALA Passed peacefully to her home in Heaven on April 3, 2016, in Charlottesville, VA. Anne was born to Frances Zugac Puhala and Frank Puhala, on June 23, 1926, in Versailles, PA, and will be forever in our hearts. Anne married Bill Kuchel in 1948, and they enjoyed 61 years of marriage. Anne was a longtime resident of East McKeesport, PA and a member of St. Robert Bellarmine Church. Anne is survived by her daughter, Pam Norem and husband, Larry of Barboursville, VA; sister, Katy Foster; brother, Bob Puhala and his wife, Cindy; sister/brother-in-law, Agnes and Dick Hornak; several nieces, and a nephew. Anne was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill; son, David; grandson, Jeremy Norem; sister/brother-in-law, Ann and John Kuchel. TRIPOLI DOROTHY M. Age 98, of Pittsburgh's South Side, died Monday, April 11, 2016, at home in the presence of friends and loved ones. She was born December 20, 1917, in the Homewood section of Pittsburgh, daughter of the late Peter and Catherine Cardillo. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Balthasare “Bud” L. Tripoli, 30 years ago. She was also predeceased by two brothers, Alfred Cardell and Henry Cardillo; and by three sisters, Marcy Nigro, Edith DiGiorgio and Helen Corso. Dorothy traveled to California to be with Bud during his military service returning to Pittsburgh during WWII where they raised their two sons, Thomas R. Tripoli and Gerald H. Tripoli. She was a lifelong health enthusiast following a daily regimen of yoga and healthy organic foods. Even well into her late 80s, she still power- walked three miles a day and baked her own special whole wheat bread. Dorothy is survived by a brother, Robert Cardillo; sons, Thomas R. Tripoli and Gerald H. Tripoli and his wife, Mariana; four granddaughters, Mara Tripoli, Olivia Tripoli, Alyssa (Brock) Wells and Elizabeth Tripoli; two great-grandchildren, Xavier Wells and Alexandra Wells; and many beloved nieces, nephews and countless dear friends. Dorothy was cared for in her final days by Christine Tripoli, Mary Young and the fine personnel at Family Hospice & Palliative Care. Family and friends will be received from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2016, at the JOHN J. GMITER FUNERAL HOME, LTD., 119 S. 15th St., Pgh., PA 15203. Parting Prayers will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at the John J. HALLER JOHN J. “JACK” Age 82, died peacefully, April 11, 2016, at his home at Sherwood Oaks, Cranberry Twp., PA. Born in Erie, PA on April 14, 1933, son of the late Rudolph and Dorothy (McCready) Haller. Jack graduated from Duquesne University School of Pharmacy in 1954, served in the U. S. Army at Fort Gordon in Augusta, GA. He was a pharmacist and pharmacy manager for over 30 years. He enjoyed fishing and Pirates baseball. Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Lois (Albrecht) Haller; second wife of four years, Marlene (Harris) Haller of Mars, PA; a brother, James Haller of Collinsville, IL. He is survived by two daughters, Diane (Robert) Henry of Las Vegas, NV, Susan (Jeffrey) Robinson of Indianapolis, IN; three sons, Steven (Sherrie) Haller of Kingman, AZ, Robert (Debbie) Haller of Freedom, PA and John (Michele) Haller of Martell, NE; also survived by five stepchildren, Susan (Keith) Wilson of Frederick, MD, Sherry (Pete) Renard of Orange County, CA, David (Kathleen) Weissert of Kalamazoo, MI, Jeff (Kathleen) Weissert of Mars, PA, Tim (Loretta) Weissert of Longview, TX and their families; a sister, Elizabeth "Betsy" Devore of McDonough, GA; sister-in-law, Gail Haller of Collinsville, IL; brother-in-law, Paul (Irene) Albrecht of Las Vegas, NV; as well as 12 grandchildren; three great- grandchildren. WINNER RALPH A., Jr. On April 12, 2016, Ralph A. Winner, Jr., age 87, of the North Hills, passed away. He was the son of Ralph A. and Margaret (Schwab) Winner, Sr., and beloved husband of 57 years to the late Joan M. Winner. He is survived by his loving son, Richard A. (Lorene) Winner of Mars; and his grandsons, Ryan and Christopher Winner, whom he was very proud of. Ralph worked for Ironworkers Local 3 Union for 37 years until a work-related injury on the Birmingham Bridge prematurely ended his career as a journeyman ironworker. His disability did not stop him from motivating other amputees to live on with life, remodeling kitchen ceilings, driving down to Marco Island, FL every winter, or having a few beers with his buddies at the West View VFW. Ralph was preceded in death by his siblings, Betty Lou Bommer and Richard S. Winner. MALIN BETTY LOUISE BENO (MALINOWSKI) Age 85, passed into eternity on April 10, 2016, in Ft. Worth, Texas. Betty was born in the North Side of Pittsburgh, PA on February 17, 1931, to Andrew and Julia Beno. She graduated from Oliver High School in Pittsburgh, PA in 1948. After high school, she worked for Allis-Chalmers where she met her husband to be, Donald Malinowski. They were married in Chicago in 1952 and remained in Pittsburgh while raising their family. In 1977, Betty and Don relocated to Baton Rouge, LA. In 1982, they moved to Florida for Don's career. They remained in Dunedin, Florida until relocating to Texas to be near their family in 2015. She loved to go to casinos, play bingo and go on cruises. She loved her family dearly and was always their most enthusiastic cheerleader. Her parents, Andrew and Julia Beno, and her sisters, Marie Kretzler and Virginia Beadling, preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Don Malin. Her three children, the Reverend Don Malin, daughter, Valerie Williamson and youngest son, Mark Malin, survive her. Her brother, Andy "Butchy" Beno, also survives her. Betty's wish was to have no funeral service and to have her ashes interred along with her husband, Donald, in Deer Creek Cemetery in Springdale, PA, near Pittsburgh, their hometown. JANCZEWSKI WALTER J. Age 90, of Monroeville, passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2016. Husband of Mary Lou (Hoetzlein) Janczewski and the late Mary V. Janczewski; father of Thomas (Mary Anita) Janczewski, Mary (Chris) Cleaver, Diane (Tom) Lindblad, Vicky (Jeff) Richards, Anthony J. Janczewski, Peggy Chorba, Mark (Cindy) Janczewski, and Julie (Tony) Mazzeo; also 25 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Also survived by nieces and nephews. He was a WWII veteran where he was accepted into the preflight pilot program as a 17 year old teenager. He retired from Westinghouse P.A.D. as an electrical engineer with over 35 years service. Walt was a past Grand Knight from Council 4925 Knights of Columbus with over 50 years of service. He was very active in his home parish of North American Martyrs, serving on multiple committees including Parish Council, building committee and the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
