WASSERMAN MARILYN A. Age 87, of Latham, NY, passed away in the comfort of her home on December 12, 2015. She was the daughter of the late James A. Somers and Edna McCarty Somers of Pittsburgh. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Somers, and is survived by Jean Somers Beatty of LaPorte, PA, and her daughter, Kyle Wasserman of Harwich, MA. She would often say she lived a long, healthy life because she "came from good stock". Marilyn grew up in Pittsburgh where she married her high school sweetheart, George. They then shared 61 loving years together until his passing last year. Her professional life included working for Farmer's Bank in Pittsburgh until her marriage, which is when they relocated to Ann Arbor, MI, and then to Troy, NY in the early 60s. She worked many years at Troy News where she affectionately earned the nickname Malsie, which stuck with her for many years. She was active in events at Russell Sage, where her husband was a professor. Gardening and knitting brought endless amounts of joy to Marilyn. She was a perfectionist, repeating a knitting line 50 times before getting it just right. She was a beautiful painter, fueled by an unparalleled creativity. Marilyn enjoyed countless getaways to Lake George and Cape Cod, but nothing made her happier than spending time with her beloved daughter, Kyle. She will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 19, 2015, at 4 p.m. at the BOWEN AND PARKER BROS. FUNERAL HOME, 97 Old Loudon Rd., Latham, NY. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family before the service, from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. Condolence book at: parkerbrosmemorial.com Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
