Born May 5, 1918, in Warsaw, Poland, she was a daughter of the late Kazimierz and Malgorzata (Lesniewska) Chojnacki. Anna was a survivor of the Oswiecim concentration camp (Auschwitz-Birkenau). After the war, Anna and her late husband, Peter made a new life for themselves and their children, moving to the United States of America and settling in Braddock. In addition to her parents, Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Szarmach; brothers, Józef, Leon, Henryk; and sisters, Halina, Kazimiera and Zofia, all from Poland. She is survived by her daughter, Maggie (Larry) Golofski of Vandergrift; son, Lester Szarmach of Penn Hills; grandson, Christopher; granddaughter, Alicia; step-grandchildren, Robert, Bryan (Doris) Skehan, Jessica (Dan) Calve; and many relatives and friends in Poland.
