BEDEL JEAN RUTH (RUYAK) Jean was born in Pittsburgh on February 9th, 1932. Her parents were Joseph and Mary (Matsko) Ruyak. She was the youngest of three children with brother John and sister Elsie. She was married to Denis Bedel for over 62 years and had three children: Mark (Elizabeth Gorski), Denise Bedel Deffner and Brian (Melissa Marcotulli); Jean was blessed with six grandchildren: Marisa, Evan, Anthony, Gianna, Sean and Gabriella. She was an executive with North Hills High School Sports boosters, as well as many other school organizations. Jean and Denis were involved for 21 years with Catholic Engaged Encounter, presenting marriage preparation weekends for over 2,000 engaged couples. Both she and Denis were also involved with the national organization, the Outline Task Force, preparing and modifying the presentations for the weekends. The recruitment of priests to be weekend presenters was also part of her ministry. This involved working with the priests on their presentations. Jean had a talent for decorating, floral arrangements in particular. Jean also had a great affection for dogs, especially the smaller black and tan Dacshunds, like the two canine loves of her life, Nicky and Heidi. Above all was Jean's love of her family, exemplified by her 13-year odyssey through 15 neurologists to find a remedy for Denise's epilepsy, with culmination in brain surgery in 1987 that controlled her seizures. BLUMENFELD NEIL On Tuesday, July 3, 2018. Beloved husband of Thelma; former husband of Zahava; father of Tal (Inbal) and Rona Blumenfeld; stepfather of Charles (Amy) Tashbook, Linda Tashbook, Judy Tashbook-Safern, and Susie Stern; grandfather of Omer, Geffen, Eshed, Karni, David, Rachael, Noah, Sarah, Jonah, Ellie, Jacob, Caleb, and Anna. Neil's parents were Bernhardt and Marian Blumenfeld. Neil was born and raised in Pittsburgh, working as a teenager in his father's small grocery store in Braddock. He attended Linden School and the Valley Forge Military Academy and went on to serve in the US Navy. He fell in love with Israel and with Zahava when he traveled to Kibbutz Sha'ar HaGolan for what was supposed to be a six month visit. He married Zahava and they raised their two children on the Kibbutz. In mid-life, he returned to Pittsburgh and married Thelma (a.k.a. Tammy) Nathan Tashbook. At this point in his life, he was a manager at the Food Gallery grocery store. He and Tammy soon opened a knish factory called Knish & Tell which they operated for six years. He then went to work in the front office at Carrick High School until retirement. Wherever he went, Neil made friends very easily and could be relied upon to help in any way that he was needed. TUTTLE JULIANNE (JANA) September 19, 1923 - June 28, 2018. Jana was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. She graduated from Mt. Mercy Academy and the University of Pittsburgh. She married Clifford L. Tuttle in 1946, and lived in Mt. Lebanon, where they raised five children, one son and four daughters. The Tuttles have lived in Longboat Key and Sarasota since moving to Florida more than two decades ago. In the mid-1980s she and her husband were active participants in the establishment of a group of independent community living residences for special-needs adults, forming a charitable organization called Southwinds, Inc. Southwinds has continued to operate successfully for over three decades. A funeral mass will be conducted on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bernard's Church, where she and her husband had been members. She will be buried in the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. Braz was a retired boilermaker at US Steel Duquesne Works with 34 years service. He was a member of Holy Trinity Church, West Mifflin, and was a past president of their Men's Club. He served on Parish Council, volunteered at Children's Hospital, volunteered with Meals On Wheels, and co-chaired the 100th anniversary of Holy Trinity Church. He proudly served in the army; he was stationed in Germany where he was awarded the Guardian of the Outpost of Democracy, serving in the 6th Infantry Regiment. He was also a valued employee of the Maloy-Schleifer Funeral Home for over 15 years. He also enjoyed golfing and fishing. Margaret was a member of the West Mifflin Senior Citizens and a life-long member of Resurrection Parish.
