SCHADE HELEN MRVOS Most recently of Bridgeville Rehab & Care Center, Bridgeville, formerly of Robinson Township, age 94, on Monday, July 2, 2018. Beloved wife of the late Howard R. Schade; daughter of the late Simo Mrvos and Simica (Trbovich) Mrvos. She is survived by her loving children, Janice, Glenn (Jan), Craig (Jackie), and Tim (Karen); and will be missed by her nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; also survived by her cousin, Nick Mamula; and thirteen nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Sophie Mrvos, and brothers Sam and George Mrvos. Helen was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Carnegie, where she taught Sunday School for over 40 years, was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church Women, the Comforters, and was a volunteer for Meals On Wheels. Once her children were raised, she worked at Ohio Valley Hospital for 29 years, finishing her career as a Ward Secretary on the 3rd floor, where she thought of her co-workers as her family. She was happiest in her kitchen, cooking for anyone and for any occasion. Helen made friends easily and was loved by all who knew her. Margaret was the sole surviving member of the Varvarics family of Salemville: father Charles, mother Helen, sisters Mary, Helen, Annie, and Pauline, brothers, Henny, Johnny, Nicky, and Michael. She left school after the eight grade, and as a teenager during the Great Depression moved to Homestead to work and help support her family. Although she had no formal education, to her family she had a Ph.D. in Motherhood, blessing the family with wonderful meals, a perfect household, and unconditional love. Margaret was a member of the West Mifflin Senior Citizens and a life-long member of Resurrection Parish. CAHILL GEORGE F. On July 2, 2018 George F. Cahill, formerly of Upper St. Clair, died at age 92. Beloved husband of the late Muriel O. Cahill. George leaves behind three children, Judith (Frank) Milfeit, Linda (Wayne) King, and Mark (Terry) Cahill; four grandchildren Christopher (Jillian) Stone, Matthew Stone, Rebecca King, (Nicholas) Ferraro, Kirah Cahill; and great granddaughter, Emmylou Stone. George was born in Indianapolis, Indiana and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. He was the son of Dr. Edward A. and Margaret T. Cahill. At the age of 17 he volunteered for service during WWII and was assigned to the 8th Army Air Forces, 390th bomb group. He graduated from Purdue University and in 1949 joined the Boy Scouts of America, serving councils in Milwaukee, Cincinnati, New York, and ultimately becoming Chief Scout Executive of Allegheny Trails Council (now Laurel Highlands Council). While in Pittsburgh George was instrumental in the creation of Flag Plaza. George received the Boy Scouts' highest honors including The Jubilee Medal from the Hungarian Scout Association, the Silver Beaver Award, and the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award. George founded and served as President of the National Flag Foundation, organized the Pittsburgh Committee of '76, and created the Patriot Award Ceremony. He was named Pittsburgh's Man of the Year in 1975, received the General Matthew B. Ridgway Award, The Medal of Paris, and The George Washington Honor Medal. Dedicated to leadership and community service, George served with long tenures on the board of St. Clair Hospital, Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity, Boy Scouts of America, National Flag Foundation, and served as trustee of the American Humanics Foundation. Carol was survived by one day by her beloved husband, Donald Ducky Gilmore; children; Raymond (Cathie) Gilmore of Pittsburgh, Gary Gilmore of Dallas, TX, Beth Gilmore Jones of Upper St. Clair, Donald (Kelly) Gilmore of South Fayette; also survived by grandchildren; Kathryn and Christopher Jones, Olivia and Luke Gilmore, Katelyn, Raymond, Charlotte and Thomas Gilmore, and great-granddaughter; Milana Gilmore. She was preceded in death by grandson; Zachary Jones; and half-brother, Donald Kitchen. Carol's working years started at the early age of 15 at Balsamo's Foods and she retired at 73 after working as the secretary for McKeesport mayor's Lou Washowich, Joe Bendel, and Jim Brewster. Carol enjoyed the political life and supported her bosses enthusiastically. Carol loved her hometown, always looking for ways to beautify the city. She was a very devoted mother and grandmother and maintained lifelong bonds with many friends. Carol was always a free spirit and fun lover who had a zest for gardening, rock music, cooking and her family's activities. As a young lady she worked for the K-Mart camera dept. and became an excellent photographer with kids being her favorite subject. Dan then became the Executive Director of CATY services in Point Breeze. Dan also maintained a private practice in counseling. Dan was a member of the A.O.H., Sean McBride Division #32, in Carnegie. His passion was long-distance running, but Dan also enjoyed travelling and camping. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. BEDEL JEAN RUTH (RUYAK) Jean was born in Pittsburgh on February 9th, 1932. Her parents were Joseph and Mary (Matsko) Ruyak. She was the youngest of three children with brother John and sister Elsie. She was married to Denis Bedel for over 62 years and had three children: Mark (Elizabeth Gorski), Denise Bedel Deffner and Brian (Melissa Marcotulli); Jean was blessed with six grandchildren: Marisa, Evan, Anthony, Gianna, Sean and Gabriella. She was an executive with North Hills High School Sports boosters, as well as many other school organizations. Jean and Denis were involved for 21 years with Catholic Engaged Encounter, presenting marriage preparation weekends for over 2,000 engaged couples. Both she and Denis were also involved with the national organization, the Outline Task Force, preparing and modifying the presentations for the weekends. The recruitment of priests to be weekend presenters was also part of her ministry. This involved working with the priests on their presentations. Jean had a talent for decorating, floral arrangements in particular. Jean also had a great affection for dogs, especially the smaller black and tan Dacshunds, like the two canine loves of her life, Nicky and Heidi. Above all was Jean's love of her family, exemplified by her 13-year odyssey through 15 neurologists to find a remedy for Denise's epilepsy, with culmination in brain surgery in 1987 that controlled her seizures.
