MEGORAN JOANN W. Joann Eileen Weitzel Megoran bid this world “Cheerio!” on Saturday, September 26, 2015. She passed quickly and with dignity, leaving the love, care and comfort of her loving family to join her Savior and spiritual family awaiting her. Joann was born August 22, 1930, in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania. As an adolescent and young adult, she played piano routinely throughout her community. She was a 1952 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with majors in English and History and a minor in Psychology. She was a sister of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She was a former employee of U.S. Steel. Joann and Joseph Albert Megoran were married September 5, 1952, in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania. Joe and Joann moved to south Florida in the early 1950s and were residents of Coconut Creek since 1972. After raising their family and enjoying retirement, her loving husband of 48 years, Joe passed in 2000. Despite describing herself as a homebody, Joann was quite the hostess. Any visitor would be greeted with: “Would you care for a cold drink?” and bid goodbye with a smile and a “Cheerio!” Joann valued enduring friendship and concern of neighborhood friends and regular visits to her patio. Joann spent time with family in Ft. Pierce, Florida and The Woodlands, Texas, and once traveled as far as Hong Kong. During illness, care was provided in the homes of her devoted and loving daughters, Sharon and Lisa, leading to quick improvement. She spent much of the last year visiting family in The Woodlands with frequent visits from devoted family residing in Florida and Michigan. Fellowship with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren enriched her days. She remained active and quick witted, with her signature cheery disposition. She loved to gallivant, enjoying a grand day out to a movie and lunch on the day she left us. Joann was preceded in death by husband, Joseph; mother, Mabel Texter Weitzel; father, William John Weitzel; and beloved brother, William Kenneth (Melrose and children surviving) Weitzel; and cherished grandson, Myles Victor Muente. Joann is survived by her daughters, Lisa (Baudilio) Recinos and Sharon Megoran; and her son, Mark (Alicia) Megoran. “Bee,” as named by the grandchildren, had ten, Melissa (David) Ryan, Ryan (Kristi) Varela, Marcos Muente, Meghan (Timothy) Muente-Spencer, Sean Megoran, Thomas Megoran, Maya Recinos, Victoria Recinos and Jasmine Soto. Bee also had four beautiful great- grandchildren, Seamus, Bridget and Cassidy Ryan and Liam Spencer. Throughout her life, Joann provided an example of determination through adversity, grace, dignity and good humor. She leaves her family a legacy of self-empowerment; namely choice, commitment, independence, love, family and above all else, humor. Her family will never be at a loss as to what action, advice or humorous quip Joann would provide. In lieu of tears, remembrances of Joann accompanied by smiles are preferred. In lieu of flowers, Joann would wish memorials be made to the charity of your choice. No funeral arrangements are forthcoming. A family celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
