He graduated from Wittenberg University with a degree in Physics and then from Columbia University with a Masters in Nuclear Engineering. His career at Bettis Atomic Power Plant began in 1963 until his retirement in 2002. Dick was a member of Valleybrook Country Club and was a founding member of the Parkinson's Foundation of Western PA. He is survived and missed by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Wallace Rossmiller, Irene and Joseph Kennedy and William J. and Bjorg Beitler. He will also be missed by his nieces and nephews. NEWTON RICHARD HARRY DICK Age 69, formerly of McKeesport, PA, passed away peacefully with his wife and children by his side on January 9, 2018. He was a 1967 graduate of McKeesport High School. Dick nurtured his passion for music early in his life by entertaining his family in the kitchen. Within a few years, along with high school friends, formed a band, The Fantastic Dee Jays; recorded an album and had air time on local radio stations. They performed on store roof tops, at special events, opened for the infamous Rolling Stones (when they passed through Pittsburgh). He married his high school sweetheart, Mae L. (Patterson) in 1966 and pursued a career in business operations, spending a majority of his time at John Sexton Food Distribution. He pursued a few businesses, but found fulfillment in writing, later self-publishing a book titled Oceannis. Preceded in death by his parents Harry C. and Laura M. (Lutz) Newton; two brothers, Donald Newton and William Newton; two sisters, Lanna (Newton) Bender and Mary (Newton) Hartnett. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mae L.; sister, Carol (Newton) Santone; brother, James and his wife Donna Newton; brother-in-law and 'partner in crime,' Gene Bender; as well as his four children and their spouses, Rebecca M. (Newton) Tebeau, Tracie R. (Newton) and spouse Patrick M. Bowen, Carey A. (Newton) and spouse, Eric C. Takach, Benjamin J. Born June 19, 1932, in Pittsburgh, PA, he was a son of the late Leonard and Anna Catherine (Treichler) Blazewick. Robert was co-owner of the Wexford Foodland and a life long manager of grocery stores and distributors. He was an avid sports fan who had a passion for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Robert also enjoyed golfing and especially spending time with his family. He was a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church and a veteran of the United States Army during the Korean War. Surviving is his wife, Annabelle Ietto Blazewick, they were married June 22, 1963; a daughter, Debra (Christopher) DiCianna; and a son, Frank (Kristin) Blazewick both of Cranberry Twp.; four grandchildren, Michael and Natalie DiCianna, Ashley and Matthew Blazewick; a brother, Paul (Nancy) Blazewick of NJ. BABURICH ROBERT A. BUTCH A lifelong resident of Chalfant Borough, age 78, on Sunday, January 21, 2018. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Barbara (Bukovac) Baburich; beloved brother of Joanne Baburich with whom he resided; cousin of Cindy (Joe) Midgett, Donna (Bob) Trbovich and John (Sherri) Bukovac. Bob was a 1958 graduate of Turtle Creek High School, attended Robert Morris College and graduated from Pittsburgh Barber School. In 1961, Bob was elected in Chalfant as the youngest Justice of the Peace in the country and, over the past 40 years, he has served as Tax Collector for Chalfant. Bob worked with his Dad in their family barber shop in East Pittsburgh and later moved to Chalfant. After his Dad's death, Bob continued as a barber until retiring in 2011. The shop was the hub of Chalfant for local news, history, events and discussions. Bob enjoyed bowling and fishing. He bowled in leagues and tournaments and bowled a 300 game at the former Terrace Recreation Lanes in East Pittsburgh on January 24, 1979. At that time, 300 games were extremely rare, only a few every year in Western PA. He loved to fish in Canada with his Canadian relatives and, locally, at Galitizin State Park. But Bob's fondest passion was his Croatian heritage and its music. He was a lifelong member of the Croatian Fraternal Union, Lodge #141 and was a talented musician. Bob played all of the traditional Croatian instruments with various Croatian orchestras. With the Balkan Four, he played the Bass. Bob played the bugarija with the Novi Glas, the Nasi Tamburasi, the St. George Adult Tamburitzans and the Penn Sembles. He also was adept at strumming the Prim and the Brac'. GALLAGHER RAYMOND G. Scientist, Inventor and Volunteer remembered for his intellect and humor, age 79, of Plum Borough, on Friday, January 19, 2018, after a brief illness. Ray was the son of the late Charles A. and Nettie (Treml) Gallagher and was the middle child of eleven children; beloved husband of Patricia (Rehak) Gallagher for 55 years; loving father of Jeff Gallagher (Lorine) of Plum Borough and Renee (Gallagher) Pediconi (Gabe) of Murrysville. He was proud of his six grandchildren, Jeffrey Gallagher, Sydney Sabo, Josh Sabo, Noah Sabo, Gabriella Pediconi, and Jason Berkovich. He was brother of Martha Brusco (Dom), Helen Amatucci (Frank), Carol Edwards (Charles), Linda Gallagher, Buzzy Gallagher, and the late Betty Arbster (Frank), Jennie Demengo (Ed), Stan, and Jerry Gallagher. As can be expected, Ray had many nephews, nieces, and cousins. Born in the Turtle Creek area of Pittsburgh, Ray was a subtle, humble, and unassuming person and of strong faith. He attended St. Colman's Elementary School in Turtle Creek and Scott High School in North Braddock. After high school, Ray attended Juniata College and graduated with a BS degree in Physics. He went to graduate school at UCLA and received an MS degree in Mechanical Engineering/ Material Science. Ray continued his education with graduate GSIA study at CMU. He was very thankful to PPG for sponsoring his graduate education. Also, Ray went on to graduate from the Executive Program in Marketing at Columbia University in New York. Coming from a large family, Ray recognized the importance and need for education and hard work. After graduating from college, he became a full time PPG bemployee in the Window Engineering Group at the PPG Glass Laboratory, and he continued working at PPG for the next 45 years in a variety of upward positions. This included positions in Glass Research, G.O. Marketing, and Product Development. Along the way, Ray was awarded several US patents, and international patents in Germany, Italy, Sweden, and India. At PPG, Ray was recognized as a superb scientist, and he made many contributions in heat transfer technology involving windows and buildings. For many years, Ray managed the Commercial Glazing Group of engineers and scientists at the Glass Research Laboratory. Ray was awarded the highest PPG technology award twice as the recipient of the President's Award for Technical Excellence for the development and commercialization of the profitable and industry changing PPG INTERCEPT SPACER--a low energy transfer product for windows. Also, Ray played an important role in customer relations when signing up over 300 licensees for this technology. In addition, Ray participated in several window trade organizations, and he served on the Board of Directors for NFRC, SIGMA, EHHA, IGMA, PASC AND IGMAC. With regard to other interests, Ray was an excellent golfer and tennis player, and immensely enjoyed playing table tennis with his grandchildren. There were many laughs and good times in these games. During 55 years of golfing, he managed to get two holes-in-one. Ray was an active member of the local Plum YMCA, Our Lady of Joy Parish, and a member of the Masonic Lodge # 502, Tarentum, PA for over 50 years. After retirement from PPG in 2004, Ray started his own company as Gallagher Technical Services, LLC. His clients included PPG, various attorneys and companies in the United States, Europe, Mexico, and Canada. He ran this LLC for several years and officially retired in 2014. Interestingly, Ray served as an expert witness on several significant Federal Court cases related to windows and building construction. Everyone who knew Ray will miss him dearly. CODY PAUL T. Age 89, of North Huntingdon, died Saturday January 20, 2018. He was born November 30, 1928, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Martin and Marie Cody and was raised by his grandparents, the late Timothy and Mabel Sexton. Paul was a retired dispatcher for the Port Authority of Allegheny County, a Navy Veteran of WWII, and a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, North Huntingdon. He enjoyed his golfing and bowling leagues, was an avid reader and history buff, and loved to fish. His Sunday was not complete if he could not complete the New York Times crossword puzzle in an hour. In addition to his parents and grandparents, he is preceded in death by children, Paul Cody and Kathleen Billings; siblings, Dorothy McDermott, Terrance and Patrick Cody. He is survived by his wife, Theresa (Cicco) Cody; his children Barbara Mills, Vicki Weber, Mary E. Aitkin, and Christopher Cody; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; also nieces and nephews, including special niece, Linda Williams.
