MULHERAN ANNE D. (DAVIES) On November 1, 2017, Anne Davies Mulheran, age 91, of Munhall, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Anne was born in Ironton, Ohio the daughter of John and Edith (Carlson) Davies and graduated from Lisbon High School. She attended Westminster College. Anne married Michael Mulheran in 1948 and was preceded in death by her beloved husband Michael and brothers David and Thomas Davies. Anne was a very caring, loving and supportive mother who spent a large part of her life devoted to caring for her six children and nine grandchildren. She entered the workforce to support her children when she became a widow at a young age and was an employee of the PA Dept. of Environmental Resources. Anne had a deep love for the arts and was a talented watercolor painter and member of the "Monday Painters", McMurray Art League. She loved traveling, sewing, gardening, and playing cards with the "Club Ladies" in Munhall for 50 years. Loving mother of the late Alice (husband Tony survives) Novosel, John (Kathy) Mulheran, Kathleen (Ronald) King, Clare (Gary) Torso, Michael Mulheran, Susan (Donald) Gruber; Cherished grandmother of Emily Mulheran, Kayla Frances Mulheran, Ellen (James) Richey, Jessica (Bjorn) King-Kafsack, Justin King, Lauren (Steve) Orkis, Kathleen Torso, Michael Gruber and great granddaughter Penelope King-Kafsack. BEAM SUSAN WITT Susan Witt Beam, 69, of Eighty-Four, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 1, 2017, in the care of Concordia Hospice of Washington at the Donnell House, with her family by her side. She was born October 6, 1948, in Fairmont, WV, a daughter of the late Charles Edward Witt and Susan Jane Witt. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Chad Witt. Sue loved music. She played both flute and piccolo. A 1966 graduate of Mt. Lebanon High School, she was an honored member of the legendary Mt. Lebo marching band. Sue went on to graduate from West Virginia University in 1970. She was a proud Mountaineer, attending countless WVU football games, always cheering for her beloved Blue & Gold. Sue will be best remembered for the wisdom and affection that she bestowed on all her loved ones. She valued her role as a wife, mother and grandmother above all else, receiving her greatest pleasure from hosting family and friends at gatherings filled with homemade, gourmet meals - always creating wonderful memories. Sue was smart, creative and athletic. Sue pursued many hobbies over the years including playing tennis and golf. Additionally, she was an avid reader, an equestrian and an accomplished dog trainer. Known by most for her positive outlook and her sense of humor, Sue was a valued member of the Nemacolin Woodlands Ladies Golf League, Airedale Terrier Club of America, Steel Valley Airedale Terrier Association, United States Equestrian Team Foundation, National Republican Committee, Heritage Foundation, George W. Bush Presidential Center, The Conservative Caucus and Junior League of Pittsburgh. Sue is survived by her devoted husband of 47 years, Charles Edward Beam. She also leaves behind her daughter, Caryn Hansen and husband Jason of Holly Springs, NC; daughter, Erin Mills and husband Jeffrey of Farmington, PA; her six grandchildren, Logan, Carly, Jacob, Macy, Anne and Julia; sister, Connie Jones and husband Cody of Sissonville, WV; sister, Amy Klevan and husband Tom of Bethel Park, PA; sister-in-law, Barbara Reynolds and husband Jim of Irvine, CA, and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Many dear friends will cherish her memory and her family extends their gratitude to all those who helped in ways large and small during her battle with cancer. The family also extends heartfelt thanks to the incredible team at the Donnell House (Concordia Hospice of Washington) in Washington, PA and to the medical staff at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center in Shadyside, PA. Per Sue's wishes there will be no viewings and she wanted all to know, “my heart is full – no regrets!” A private, graveside memorial service will be held in Fairmont, WV at Woodlawn Cemetery on Sunday, November 5, 2017. He was born July 5, 1928 in McKeesport, a son of the late John and Suzanna (Matura) Pomaibo; and was also preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn J. (Lowe) Pomaibo; and a daughter, Jerilyn Johnson. Paul was a retired employee of Westinghouse Energy Center, Monroeville and a member of Lutheran Church of Our Savior, North Huntingdon. He was a past master of Shidle Lodge No. 601, Free and Accepted Masons, Irwin, and a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Pittsburgh, and Syria Temple. GAFFNEY LOIS BROWN After a long, well lived life of 97 years, Lois Brown Gaffney of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania left this world peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, November 2, 2017, to join her much loved late ,Dr. Paul C. Gaffney. Predeceased by her eldest child, Louise, she leaves her children, Dr. Paul (the late Jean), William, Maureen (Paul McCann), Ellen (Louis Odette), Clancy (Ralph Falk), and Dr. Michael (Nina); much loved Nanny to Molly, Kate, Anna, and Margaret Gross, Emily, Paul, and Michael Gaffney, Elizabeth and Maura McCann, Louis, Julie, and Bill Odette, Sarah, Laura, Alex and Megan Comeau, and Conor, Claire and Brendan Gaffney; and six great-grandchildren. Born in Pittsburgh and raised in Morningside, she was a graduate of Mt. Mercy (Carlow University) College. She and Dr. Paul Gaffney spent many wonderful years on Elgin Street in Highland Park, a second home to their children's many friends and a vacation paradise to her grandchildren, who fondly remember lively Christmases and happy hours spent in the pool with Nanny and Grandfather. She loved nothing more than to spend her summers with her children and grandchildren. The worst time of the year for her was the end of the summer when children and grandchildren had to go back to school. She was a sharp bridge player, a consistent blood donor, and a many-year Meals on Wheels driver, well into her 90s. A devoted Catholic, she was a daily communicant and great supporter of St. Raphael Church in Morningside. Visitation will be held at McCABE BROS., INC. REES HOWARD D., Jr. Age 71, of South Fayette, formerly of Upper St. Clair, died peacefully on November 3, 2017. Beloved husband of 46 years to Neonei “Nan” (Houlihan) Rees; wonderful father to Michael D. Rees (Allison) of New Canaan, CT, and Matthew D. Rees (Victoria) of London, UK; loving grandfather of Dylan (11), Alexia (8), Ronan (2) and baby boy he loves who is due January 2018. Howard graduated from Baldwin High School in 1964 and loved attending the reunions every five years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Edith Rees; and his sister, Carole (Albert) Goldstrohm. He is survived by his sister, Janet (Edward) Stanko and numerous nieces and nephews. A true Pittsburgh romance, he married the love of his life who he met at Isaly's in 1962. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany in 1966. He raised a family in Upper St. Clair and founded Pittsburgh Hydraulic Service in the mid 1980's. He cherished his time coaching little league baseball and loved to play catch in the yard with his sons and grandchildren. He loved and protected his family above all else. He was most proud of his wife and sons, his military service, and his perfect credit rating. HARWICK JOHN Age 84, of Pittsburgh, on Novemeber 3, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Mary Geraldine Harwick; and his daughter, Mary Beth Harwick. He is survived by his sons, Barry (Marcia Kelly), Robert (Nancy Anne); ex-wife, Mary Harwick; and two sisters, Mary Lou Harwick and Patricia Allamon. He was grandfather to Michael, Mary Carolyn, Benjamin (Katie), Mark (fiancée, Alyssa), Christopher, Sarah, and Katie. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. John grew up in Clymer, PA and held Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate degrees from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a Masters from West Virginia University. He taught English and Journalism at the high school and college level, finishing his career with two years in South Africa. His passion was all phases of running and he spent over 60 years as one of the most prominent individuals affiliated with running in Western Pennsylvania. He was inducted into the Western Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 2003, the Indiana County Sports Hall of Fame in 2004 and was to be inducted into the Pittsburgh Marathon Hall of Fame in 2018. He created track clubs wherever he was living and coached a number of national champions with the Western Pennsylvania Track Club. He was one of the founders of the Greater Pittsburgh Road Runners Club, the Pittsburgh Marathon and the Pittsburgh Great Race as well as many local, regional, and national track and field meets. He touched the lives of hundreds of athletes over the years and had continued contact with many. For over 35 years he directed the Gold Medal Running Camp. He enjoyed traveling internationally, especially with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Mt. Lebanon Evangelical Church where a viewing will be held Monday, November 6 from 1-6 with a funeral service at 6 p.m. A private burial will take place in Valier, PA on Tuesday, November 7. SEYMOUR “SY” ALEXANDER After a brief illness, Dr. Seymour “Sy” Alexander Herron, formerly of Palm Beach Gardens and Boca Raton, Florida and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2017, in Denton, Texas. He was born on April 14, 1916, in Elizabeth, Pennsylvania. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Marilyn Brodsky Neuwirth Herron; his daughters, Joan H. Herron (partner Robert Price), Dr. Carol Herron Lustig (Michael), and Susan Neuwirth Johnson (Mark); and sons, Bruce M. and Thomas J. Herron (Jane). He had five grandchildren, Joshua Wood (Lucio Castro), Dr. Sarah Wood (Dr. Daniel Yemin), Emily Federico (Edward), Jesse Herron (Lacy), and Andrew Stoffo; and five great- grandchildren, Simone and Judah Yemin, Helen Castro-Wood and EJ and Brandon Federico. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews and other family members and numerous friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Stella Herron; his sisters, Betty Olshan (Phillip) and Hazel Levenson (Maurice); and brother, William Herron (Alice). Dr. Herron was in the first six-year dental program at the University of Pittsburgh, and graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree in 1938, and his D.D.S. degree in 1940. After his graduation, he went on for advanced studies (Maryland) to increase his knowledge of dentistry and because he wanted to be able to treat his patients to the best of his abilities. He practiced dentistry for 43 years in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, a “river” city south of Pittsburgh. Dr. Herron played many instruments, and was proud to be a member of the Pitt Marching Band. From August 1934 through the 1936 football season, he was a member of a 10-piece trumpet group who introduced the thundering 120-piece University of Pittsburgh marching band. While he was in school, he led a five-piece dance band. Also during that time, the Cunard White Star steamship line interviewed university five-piece groups to entertain on their transatlantic cruises to Europe. His group won the contract and he spent a great summer entertaining passengers. His Pitt sticker was prominently displayed so that everyone could see it! Marilyn and Sy were avid collectors of beautiful, old, one-of-a-kind clocks and lifelong members of the American Association of Clock and Watch Collectors. He prided himself on being able to repair the complicated mechanisms in clocks. Prior to their recent move to Texas, Sy and Marilyn resided at La Posada in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida where they spent 12 wonderful years in the warm circle of close friends and La Posada associates. The historic Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua, New York held a special place in Sy and Marilyn's hearts, having spent many summers there enjoying the variety of programs and the deep friendships of fellow Chautauquans. Dr. Herron was very proud of his family and they were very proud of him. He was a wonderful caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and will be missed by his loved ones and friends. Graveside funeral services will be on Sunday, November 5, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Haym Salomon Cemetery, 200 Moores Road, Frazer, Pennsylvania, 19355. CECCONE PEARL P. (KALAMAS) Age 83, of S. Fayette, formerly of Charleroi passed away peacefully after a brief illness surrounded by her family on Friday, November 3, 2017. Beloved wife of 58 years of David G. Ceccone; loving mother of Lynnlee Giannirakis, Lori (George) Palmieri and the late Lisa Marie Ceccone; devoted Gram to Alyssa, Marina, Anthony and Olivia; sister of Michael J. Kalamas. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. There was never a holiday, birthday or special occasion that occurred without Gram sending a card or note of encouragement to her grandchildren. GANGONE MICHAEL LOUIS Unexpectedly, on Thursday, November 2, 2017. Beloved son of Louis and Catherine (Kinzler) Gangone; brother of Danielle Gangone (Tyler Strohmeyer); grandson of Julia Gangone; also survived by aunts, uncles, and cousins. Sergeant Gangone, a decorated U.S. Army Veteran, served in Operation Iraqi Freedom in the 17th Military Police Detachment, 4th Battalion, 10th Infantry Regiment, 171st Infantry Brigade. He went on to work as a contractor for The U.S. Department of State in Iraq and Afghanistan. Michael was an active person who enjoyed working out and running, and had a love for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
