JOYCE PATRICK and BEVERLY “BEV” (HRINDA) Age 69, passed away surrounded by loved ones on August 12, 2017, in Jacksonville, FL after a year-long fight with cancer. She took on the disease with a “strong like bull” mentality and stayed positive and hopeful until the very end. Beverly was born June 10, 1948, in Pittsburgh to Helen (Michak) Hrinda and Michael Hrinda. Beverly loved cooking for family, her book club divas, trivia nights, and hosting Labor day parties. Bev, and her husband, Patrick, loved their eight grandchildren more than anything else. Fittingly, the last word that Beverly spoke was “love.” Beverly is survived by her daughter, Cherie (Brian) Atwood; her son, Shayne (Erin) Joyce; brother, Richard Hrinda; her sister, Joannie (Gary) Meissner; eight grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Michael Hrinda. Patrick "Pat" Joyce passed soon after his wife, on August 31, 2017, in Jacksonville, FL. Pat's death was caused by pulmonary complications that were brought on by a broken heart and a need to be near his wife of nearly 50 years. Patrick was born in Pittsburgh on February 11, 1946, to Martha (Palmer) Joyce and Patrick Joyce, Sr. Pat loved shooting pool, beautiful golf courses, and storytelling about the old days. Patrick is survived by his brother, Bob (Ellie) Gardner; and sister, Maureen Price. He was preceded in death by sisters, Patricia Howatneck and Margaret Joyce. Memorial services will take place Saturday, September 16, 2017, 12:00 p.m. at Brush Creek Cemetery Chapel in Irwin, PA. GORMAN STEVEN M. Age 61, passed peacefully on August 25, 2017. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Eileen Backes Gorman and father, Paul V. Gorman. Steven is survived by his siblings, Paul (Deborah) Gorman, Peter (Carol) Gorman, Mark (Deborah) Gorman, Raymond Gorman, and Pamela Gorman; also survived by many nieces and nephews. DRESSLER KAREN ANN Age 58, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017, at Kane Regional Health Center in Scott Township. She is survived by her mother, Erna Kourian of Providence Point in Scott Twp.; a sister, Catherine Dressler (Mark) Erickson of Mt. Lebanon; two brothers, Donald (Renee') Dressler of Houston, TX, and Robert (Rosann) Dressler of Louisville, CO. Also surviving are four nieces: Marie Erickson of Mt. Lebanon, Anna (Scott) Deans and Sarah (Bobby) Tyson, both of Houston, TX, and Catherine Dressler of Denver, CO; one nephew, Thomas (Amanda) Dressler of Louisville, CO; and grandnieces, Jillian and Elsie Deans and Avery Dressler; and grandnephew, Milo Tyson. Karen was born in St. Louis, MO, and grew up in New Orleans, LA. She studied landscape architecture at Louisiana State University and loved to draw and paint. About 13 years ago, Karen moved to Bellevue, where she enjoyed living and made many friends. In January 2016, she suffered an aortic dissection and moved to Kane. Ruth has left us to be with her parents, Andrew and Marie Stark; her husband of 40 years, Andy; and her sister, Lois Schurman, who all preceded her in death. Ruth is survived by her sons, Gary (Melanie) Gill of Plum, PA and Ron (Theresa) Gill of Shreveport, LA; and her six grandchildren, Jana (Brian) Sehrer, Jonathan, Jeremy, Jacob, Joshua and James Gill. VRANESEVIC ANN Formerly a resident of Duquesne and North Huntingdon, Ann died on September 12, 2017, at St. Anne's Home, Greensburg, PA. She celebrated her 100th birthday on July 2, 2017, and was born the fifth of ten children in Yukon to Petar and Milka Cheran. On July 6, 1941, she married the late Joseph Vranesevic and they were blessed with four children, Joanne Pilipovich (George) of North Huntingdon, Melissa Snelling (Jeffrey) of Penn Township, Paul (Cathy) of Jersey City, NJ, and Michael (Clare) of Irwin. She was an active member of the St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church of Mckeesport/Duquesne where she belonged to the Kolo Srpskih Sestara (Serbian Sisters) and Mother's Club. For many years, she baked the naphora (bread) for Sunday liturgies and was gifted in the preparation of ethnic baked goods and meals. She dearly loved her nine grandchildren, Stephanie Young, Sharon (Mark) Watson, Robert and Samantha Crawford, Zachary Snelling and Annemarie, Louise, Caroline and Adam Vranesevic; and six great- grandchildren, Zachary, Abigail and Jacob Young; and Alyssa, Dane and Mia Watson. Ann was preceded in death by her brothers, Steve, Roy, Michael, and Alex; and sisters, Martha, Sarah, Dorothy, Mildred and Zora. Ann loved her faith and was forever grateful for all God's blessings of good health of all her family. She was an excellent role model of faith, love, and goodness throughout her life and she will be missed by everyone who knew her. The family thanks the nurses, aides, and all personnel at the St. Anne Home for their excellent care she received there over the past four years. MITCHELL SALLY D. Age 85, of Penn Hills, beloved spouse of the late Dennis Mitchell, passed away on September 11, 2017. Sally worked at the Zoom-In Market, Penn Hills and retired from Giant Eagle, Oakmont. She attended the Riverside Assembly of God, Oakmont. Surviving are daughter, Lynn Schmidt of Saxonburg; two sons, Steven Mitchell of Youngstown, OH and Shawn Mitchell of Penn Hills; sister, Betty Schweitzer of Verona; six grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers. MILLER WILLIS McCOOK, JR. "Cookie" Peacefully on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, at the age of 76. Son of W. McCook Miller and Margaret Berger Miller. He is survived by his brother, George (Dale); sisters, Margaret Douglas (Rod) and Katherine Thomas (Rob); and seven nieces and nephews who affectionately called him "Uncle." Cookie was a graduate of Shady Side Academy, Yale, and Colombia Law School. He was a decorated Navy veteran having been assigned as weapons officer on the LSMR St. Francis River, which operated along the coast of Vietnam. During his service on it, that ship inflicted more casualties on the enemy than any other naval vessel. He began his legal career with Kirkpatrick, Lockhart, Johnson and Hutchinson, and later started his own practice. He served on the Boards of Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh History and Landmarks, and the Pittsburgh -Muskoka Foundation, and he was a very active supporter of and fund raiser for Epiphany Catholic Church. He was a Knight of Malta. Cookie loved the game of golf. He had been a member of the Fox Chapel Golf Club, Rolling Rock Club, the Duquesne Club and the Pittsburgh Golf Club. He relished his friendships at out-of-town clubs including the Links Club in New York City, The York Club in Toronto, and the Beaumaris Yacht Club in Canada. He will be missed by family and friends. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests contributions be made to The Pittsburgh Foundation in honor of the Margaret Miller Fund. His funeral service and burial will be private. YOUNG MICHAEL SCOTT Michael S. Young, age 56, formerly of Pittsburgh on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, on Tybee Island, Georgia. He is survived by his wife, Lynne (Davies) Young; his brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Meghan Young; and their two sons, Seth and Adam; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Karen (Davies) and Mike Lewis; and daughters, Brittany and Allison Yuhas; sister-in-law, Kristen (Davies) and Regis Calfo; and their children, Nicole, Sarah and Regie; father-in-law, Bill Davies; and aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joan (Ignasky) Young and William J. Young. Mr. Young, a retired teacher who spent the majority of his career teaching fifth-grade science at Markham Elementary School in Mt. Lebanon, was known for encouraging invention and hands-on learning. He received numerous awards, including the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching, and the Teacher Excellence Foundation's Robert F. Wolf Award. In his spare time, Mr. Young built, owned and operated Bovine Wines in Buffalo, Washington County, and was a bass player in the local Drunk'N Monkeys rock band. GALLAGHER JAMES “JIM” Age 94, formerly of the Greenfield neighborhood of Pittsburgh, passed away suddenly on Sunday, September 10, 2017, at his home in Abingdon, MD. Jim was born on May 1, 1923, in County Mayo, Ireland and immigrated to the USA in 1949. He was an over-the-road truck driver for Yellow Freight Systems for 38 years. He was a proud member and union steward for the Teamsters Local 249. He enjoyed watching boxing, Notre Dame Football, and the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins. His humor and dedication to his Irish heritage was only surpassed by his devotion and love to his family. He met the love of his life, a lass from County Kerry Ireland, Hannah, at a Pittsburgh Irish social dance and were married on October 9, 1954, at St. Paul's Cathedral in Oakland. Jim was the proud father of Jack (Janet) Gallagher of Sinking Spring, PA, and Sheila Donovan (Bill) of Bel Air, MD, and the late PJ Gallagher. He was the proud "Pappy" of Christine (Hank) Goldman, Caitlyn (Paul) Townes, Casey Donovan, Reilly Donovan, and Danny Gallagher; as well as the "Great-grand Pappy" of Hudson and Maisy Townes. Friends will be received on Friday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the EDWARD P. ZLUKY SISTER MARY DePAUL Sister Mary DePaul Zluky, A Sister of Charity of Nazareth, was called to her heavenly home on September 12, 2017 at the age of 96, and in the 82nd year of her religious life. Sister entered the Congregation of the Vincentian Sisters of Charity from St. Michael Parish in Braddock, PA in 1935. Sister served the Church as a teacher in the dioceses of Pittsburgh, Greensburg, Altoona Johnstown, PA and Youngstown, Ohio. Sister M. DePaul's greatest desire, however, was to work as a foreign missionary. Knowing of this desire Sister's religious superior sent her to Mother Mary Mission in Phenix, Alabama, where she ministered for 33 years. When asked about her years working in Alabama sister said, “I received the greatest fulfillment distributing food and clothing to the needy, visiting the sick and taking care of their needs.” She noted that it was a privilege to serve the poor and she personally benefited from their faith and trust in God. Sister's great sense of humor and storytelling always evoked a good laugh and cheered everyone around her. Her last years were spent in prayer ministry at St. Louise Convent in Pittsburgh where she still served the poor by crocheting mats for the homeless out of plastic grocery bags. Sister was deeply loved by the people to whom she ministered, her family and her Sisters in Community, she will be greatly missed. Sister M. DePaul was preceded in death by her parents, Emery and Pauline Zluky; and her siblings, Matthew, Joseph, Rudy, John, Margaret, Elmer and Steve. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and her Sisters in Community. Friends will be received at St. Louise Convent, 8200 McKnight Road, Pittsburgh, PA on Friday, September 15, 2017, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, September 16, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered in the convent chapel on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment in the Sisters' cemetery on the convent grounds. Beloved wife of 76 years to the late Michael DiPerna; loving mother of Donald M. (Pat) DiPerna, Patricia Ann (Raymond) Brace and David F. (Helen) DiPerna. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, 17 great- grandchildren and a great- great-granddaughter. She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Carmela Petrone; sisters, Sophia Petrone and Angelina Petraglia; and brother, Anthony Petrone; and a grandson, Stephen DiPerna. Teresa was the last member of her immediate family. A memorial service was held in Hershey on Wednesday, September 13, 2017. A Celebration Funeral Mass will be held in Pittsburgh at St. Mary of the Mount Catholic Church and entombment in Calvary Cemetery on Saturday, September 16, 2017. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the historic St. Mary of the Mount Catholic Church, 403 Grandview Avenue, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15211. Arrangements Entrusted to WM.
