NOULLET CHARLES WILLIAM Charles William Noullet died peacefully in Baden, Pennsylvania on January 18, 2017, at the age of 69. Charles is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and David Bryant; his nieces, Katherine Bryant Bondurant of Memphis and Jennifer Bryant Shaw of Jeannette, PA; and great-nieces and nephews. Charles is also survived by many lifelong friends, including his neighbor, Andy MacDonald, who helped make his final years peaceful. He was preceded in death by his parents, Katherine “Kitty” and William “Bill” Noullet, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Charles was born on April 18, 1947, in Pittsburgh, PA. He was in the U.S. Army 1st Engineer Battalion 1st Infantry Division and served in the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1968. He retired from Ohio Valley Hospital in 2009 and lived in Baden until the time of his death. A memorial will be scheduled for later this summer. BECKER ROBERT C. Age 87, Executive Search Consultant and former business executive died, Wednesday, February 8, 2017, at Hanna HealthCare Center at Longwood at Oakmont. Mr. Becker of Longwood at Oakmont, formerly of Fox Chapel, was President and Managing Partner of Becker, Norton and Company. Bob was also Vice President and a Director of Psychological Associates, Inc., a leading area psychological counseling and consulting firm. Becker, Norton and Company was particularly well known for their expertise in banking, finance and technology industries. Mr. Becker, a native of Minnesota, attended the University of Minnesota where he received a Master of Arts Degree in Industrial Relations. He was a proud supporter of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity (University of Minnesota, 1952). He served with the U.S. Army as a psychologist during the Korean emergency. Mr. Becker began his career with Alcoa and held a variety of positions before joining the Corporate Staff of the Personnel Relations Department in Pittsburgh, PA. He was responsible for all managerial and technical staffing throughout the company. In addition, he had continuing responsibilities for employment procedures, personnel research and the company's equal employment opportunity program. He was appointed Vice President/ Secretary Treasurer of the Alcoa Foundation. In 1972, he joined Mellon Bank where he was Manager of Personnel Relations. In 1978, he founded Robert Becker and Company, predecessor to Becker, Norton and Company. Mr. Becker was designated an Accredited Executive in Personnel by the America Society for Personnel Administration. He was a nationally recognized authority on the employment of college graduates. In 1975, he was elected the first employer President of the (National) College Placement Council. Bob was a former President of the Fox Chapel Rotary and Vice Chairman of Government Relations for the Pennsylvania Small Business Association. He was a member and Stephen Minister of Christ Church, Fox Chapel, formerly Fox Chapel Episcopal Church. From 1975 to 1988, he was President of the Board of the Congregational Center, now known as Fair Oaks, a South Hills retirement community. He was a member of the Wildwood Golf Club and Duquesne Club. Mr. Becker is survived by his wife of 64 years, Margaret Paterson Becker, Ph.D.; three children, William (Mary), Thomas (Vicki), Nancy (Tom) Vonderhaar; eight grandchildren, William (Gina), Robert, and John (Haley) Becker; Kate, Bob, Liz, Meg and Anna Vonderhaar; and one great-grandchild, Madelyn Becker. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Ben Becker. Service and Interment will be private. TAYLOR EDGAR RIVES, Jr. Originally of Jacksonville, FL and resident of Blackridge in Wilkinsburg for over 50 years passed on January 31, 2017, in Houston, Texas, after a brief illness. He was a descendant of early southern ancestors and was an avid amateur genealogist and historian. He was a charter member of the Western Pennsylvania Genealogy Society, among the original ten members who met in Mrs. Helen Harris' living room in 1974 to organize this Society. He was also a member of the National Society of Genealogists for over 25 years as well as other genealogical societies, including the Chatham Co. Historical Association in North Carolina. Mr. Taylor was the author of several family histories (including "The Dewees Family of Florida," widely copied by other family genealogists, and "Relatives of Cornelius Taylor," his ancestor). He also compiled the history of the village of Mayport, FL, which is on the Spanish land granted to his ancestor, Andrew Dewees. He was past president of the Wilkinsburg Historical Society and one of the authors of the book, "Images of America - Wilkinsburg." He had been the Archivist and Historian of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Wilkinsburg for many years, and was the author of the church's application for a historical marker from the Pittsburgh History and Landmark Foundation. Edgar graduated from Cornell University in 1952 with the five-year degrees of Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and Master of Engineering. He was elected a member of the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honorary Society and the Eta Kappa NU Electrical Engineers Honorary Society. His thesis on non- linear oscillations in electrical power systems, written while a graduate student at the University of Pittsburgh, was later published by the Institute of Electrical Engineers. Mr. Taylor was a member of the ROTC at Cornell, serving as a battalion commander and soon rising to the rank of Second Lieutenant in the Signal Corps of the U. S. Army Reserve. Shortly following his graduation, he was called to active duty, first at the Signal Corps School in Fort Monmouth, NJ where he received Top Secret (Crypto) clearance and later to Korea where he was attached to the Pusan relief and Rehabilitation Section of the Corps of Engineers, planning the rebuilding of the electrical power distribution in South Korea. For meritorious service there, he was awarded the Bronze Star as well as a Certificate of Appointment as an Honorary Citizen of Korea in appreciation for his assistance rendered to the Korean Relief's Hunger and Sickness Campaign. Following his service, he left the US Army with the rank of Captain. Ed was employed by the Westinghouse Electric Corporation for nearly 30 years in Pittsburgh. He has one patent in his name alone and another with others. While at Westinghouse, he was promoted to Sponsor Engineer for the southern electric utilities, then Manager, and finally Consulting Engineer, the highest engineering position in Westinghouse. After the sale of his division to the ASEA Brown Boveri Company, he joined their ranks in Pittsburgh and later in Raleigh, North Carolina as a Senior Consultant. Following his retirement from ABB, Mr. Taylor taught advanced electrical engineering courses for Westinghouse, Carnegie Mellon, and ASEA Brown Boveri. He was a Life Fellow Member of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (later the Institute of electrical Engineers) and the author of numerous AIEE and IEEE technical papers. Mr. Taylor was a 50-year life member of the Masons, and became a Mason in the Orient Masonic Lodge, No. 590, then in Wilkinsburg, a member of the Scottish Rite, and of the Syria Shrine. He was 32nd degree Mason. He was the son of the late Edgar Rives and Eleanor Louise Taylor, formerly of Jacksonville, FL. Mr. Taylor was predeceased last October by his wife of 64 years, Guion Trau Taylor. He is survived by two sons, Rives Trau Taylor (Loretta Coonan) of Houston, TX, and the Rev. Edgar Garland ("Gary") Taylor (Karen Shipley) of New Orleans, LA; as well as three grandchildren, Charles Shipley Taylor, Gwendolyn Guion Taylor and Theodore Jenot Taylor; in addition to many cousins, nieces and nephews. YOUNG BEATRICE “BEA” Bea passed on February 7, 2017, at Marquis Gardens Place, Uniontown. Born July 9, 1917, Bea was the daughter of the late William and Irene Farber Young and the sister of the late Grace Young, Sylvia Large, Jessie Hegyes, Gertrude Weinert and Clyde Young. She was also preceded in death by her beloved nephew, The Rev. William Large. She is survived by her niece, Irene (David) Campagna, who took good care of her. Irene kept her freezer filled with delicious dinners. She and Bob were always there for her, taking her shopping, to doctor appointments, etc. Bea is survived by other dear nieces who always stayed close and in touch with her, Nancy (Earl) Wilson of Minnesota, Bonnie (Robert) Foster of North Carolina, and Cathy (Wayne) Recker of Florida. Bea graduated from Monongahela High School. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from California State Teachers College. She received a Master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh, graduating at the top of her class. She began her career as an elementary classroom teacher and later received the position of Reading Supervisor for the West Jefferson Hills School District. She enjoyed teaching children to read and found it to be challenging and very rewarding. She retired after 34 years to help take care of her very dear father. She enjoyed golfing, shopping (in Macy's), reading, old movies, and family gatherings. She will be remembered for always being well-dressed. She firmly believed that "There is no age limit to looking good." She was 99 years old. The last time she was seen, she was wearing one of her lovely Calvin Klein suits. Her entire outfit was perfectly coordinated! Way to go, Auntie Bea. There will be no public visitation. Interment will be held privately. MIHALYI EDWARD DANIEL Edward Daniel Mihalyi, 86, of Beaver, PA passed away February 7, 2017, at Heritage Valley, Beaver. Born on Feb. 14, 1930, in Coraopolis, PA, he was the son of Moses and Caroline Heranusz Mihalyi. As a first generation American, Edward was always proud of his Hungarian heritage. While serving his country as a U.S. Marine, Edward won many Rifle Marksmanship awards, which he continued to do in civilian life. He earned a degree in Chemistry from Geneva College, and was employed by US Steel for many years until his retirement. Edward loved gardening, and was known for sharing his tomato and hot pepper crop, sending them to family and friends around the country. Surviving Edward are his very dear companion, Lorraine Grandelis; his brother, William (Margaret) Mihalyi of Burlington, WI; sisters, Margit (late Julius) Kupas of Lower Burrell, PA, Eleanor (Walter) Gallati of Indiana, PA, and Alice Mihalyi of Coraopolis, PA. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including a very special niece, Helen Terek Calaghan. In additon to his parents, he was preceded in death in 2000 by his wife, Sarah Terek Mihalyi, whom he married in 1958. JAMROM GLORIA Spunky, adored mother, grandmother and friend, died peacefully, at age 93, in Allison Park, on Sunday, January 29, 2017. Gloria was a homemaker extraordinaire who made the house designed and built by her former husband, the late architect Sam Jamrom, a welcoming center of life for her extended family and friends. She was a substitute teacher for the Hampton Township Schools. She loved to sing and knew the lyrics to countless songs and parodies from all across the 20th century. Her love of music was passed on to her three sons, and her always-anticipated dinners and desserts will be long remembered. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Rose Friedman; sister, Phyllis (Albert Felder); and son, Noah. PAVLAN DOROTHY MARIE (VASILISIN) Age 85, formerly of White Oak, PA, passed away peacefully at the Masonic Village, Elizabethtown, PA on February 4, 2017. Wife of the late Robert Charles Pavlan, Sr.; loving mother of Karin Pavlan Laraway, Robert Charles Pavlan, Jr.; treasured grandmother of Emily Salvia, Kristen Washburn, Rachel Laraway, Abigail, Timothy and Dillon Pavlan; sister of Michael Vasilisin, Mary Lepovsky and Elsie Kolcun. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Mary Vasilisin. Siblings who preceded Dorothy, Anne Ziros, Irene Krupa and Robert Vasilisin. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2017, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, INC., 301 Curry Hollow Rd., Pittsburgh 15236. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2017, at 10 a.m. in the Funeral Home's Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society at 1501 Reedsdale Street # 105, Cardello Building, Pittsburgh, PA 15233.
