He proudly served his country during the Korean War earning a campaign star for Korean Service, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Medal and the Army Good Conduct Medal as part of the Second Army Engineers. PHILLIPS HELEN NAOMIE Age 91, died at McMurray Hills Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center on January 9, 2017, after an extended illness. She was born January 24, 1925, in Findlay Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Findlay Vocational High School (1943). She then graduated from Passavant Hospital School for Nurses (1946). She was employed as a Registered Nurse at St. Francis General Hospital as a Critical Care Nurse in the O.R. before retiring from there after many years' service. Helen was a member of the Presbyterian Church and attended both Valley Presbyterian (Imperial), and First United Presbyterian Church of Rennerdale, Pennsylvania. Survivors include Audrey Morris, friend and lifelong partner; Elsie Dempsey (Dietz), Karen Bartosh (Phillips), and Sandy Warner, nieces; Robert Dietz, William Phillips, Olin Bradford, and George Jellison, nephews; 11 great-nieces and nephews; and 14 great-great-nieces and nephews; and one great-great- great-nephew. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Lillian Phillips (Cox); her siblings, Robert Phillips, Amelia Stout, Bernadine Smith, Idilla Wilson, Carrie Warner, and Dorothy Dietz; and her niece, Gloria Lutz (Wilson); and her nephew, Walter Bradford. There will be no visitation hours observed. Interment will be private in Valley Cemetery, 237 Main Street, Imperial.
