STEDMAN FERN C. Fern Stedman (Fern Marie Christofel) died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on February 22, 2016, in Dacula, Georgia at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Bertha Christofel; her sister, Naomi Brower; and her brothers, George and Boyd. Fern is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, Jerry Stedman; her two daughters, Matha (Derin) Malcovsky of Columbus, Ohio and Jae Marie Fry of Dacula, Georgia; and her son, Jerry Jay Stedman, of Dacula, Georgia. Survivors include her grandsons, Hunter Fry, Drew (Angela) Malcovsky, Dillon Malcovsky; granddaughter, Marissa Malcovsky; and great- granddaughter, Annika Malcovsky; along with nieces, cousins and countless friends. Fern was born in Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania. She joined Jefferson Hills United Methodist Church, graduated from Clairton High School and then West Virginia Wesleyan University with academic honors in Physical Education and Health. Fern earned a master's degree from the University of Colorado where she met Jerry. She taught physical education and was an athletic coach in Berea, Ohio and at West Virginia Wesleyan. She married Jerry on August 1, 1959, and resided in Columbus, Ohio until 1983 when they moved to Lilburn, Georgia. Her children remember her for being a kind and loving mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals, while developing a heart for others. Son of the late Robert Louis and Myrtle Elizabeth (Schmitt) Rectenwald; brother of the late Ronald; survived by sisters and brothers, Verna (Culan-Mike), Janis (Eriksen- John), Diane, Richard and Roy; ten nieces and nephews, 13 great-nieces and nephews; and three great-great- nephews. Bob was a loving and devoted son, a protective brother, a caring and kind uncle and a loyal friend. He served in the US Marine Corps, serving in Vietnam for 13 months. Bob loved the outdoors and fishing. He was an avid reader, he enjoyed history, loved old cars and collected coins. Bob was a real gentleman with a strong character. He was very kind, thoughtful and generous. He always put others first and treated everyone he met with dignity and respect. Doing good deeds was part of Bob's daily life, while never expecting anything in return. Throughout Bob's four year battle with cancer he never once complained, along with having rheumatoid arthritis, he never complained. We wish to thank the oncology doctors and nurses of the VA Hospital for their extraordinary care and compassion for Bob. Rest in peace, Bob. You will always be in our hearts. He was born December 6, 1927, in Heidelberg, son of the late George and Isabelle Teyssier, Sr. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was very proud of his Bronze Star. He was a member of Chartiers Valley United Presbyterian Church, lifetime member of American Legion Post 290 Scott Twp., former Mason and Heidelberg Fireman. He was always willing to help anyone. He volunteered at his church and in the community, and at the Trolley Museum in Washington. He worked as a Draftsman at McGraw-Edison, and for Deci Corporation. He retired as a self-taught Locksmith. Surviving are many cousins and friends. There will be no visitation. Everyone is invited to celebrate his life at a service in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, on Monday, February 29, 2016, at 10:00 a.m., with Pastor Hilary Livingston, officiating. Full military honors accorded by the VFW 191 Honor Guard, Canonsburg and U.S. Army.
