JOSEPH SLAIN Of Castle Shannon, passed away at Concordia of the South Hills in Mt. Lebanon on Wednesday, July 29, 2020, age 95. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Patricia, in 2005. Survived by his sons, Daniel Slain (Ronni) of Churchill, and Steve Slain (Robyn) of Orlando, FL; grandchildren, Jessica, Ty, and Lexie. Uncle of Don Rossi (Peggy), David Slain (Betty), Audrey (the late Thomas, Sr.); and other loving nieces and nephews. Also preceded in death by his two brothers, Abe Slain and Herman Slain; and two sisters, Freda Rossi and Belle Goldfon. Mr. Slain was a proud WWII Veteran who served honorably with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific from 1943 to 1945. He served in the amphibious forces aboard the USS LST-246 and earned the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon with 5 Battle Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, World War II Victory Medal, and earned six Battle Stars for WWII service. He served in the following campaigns: Kwajalein, Eniwetok Atoll 2/14/1944, Saipan-Tinian 6/15/1944, Peleliu-Palau 9/15/1944, Lingayen Gulf, Luzon, Philippines 1/5/44, and Okinawa-Gunto 5/2/1945. After the service, he was employed in the building and construction industry with Ellsworth Construction in Pittsburgh, Felton Industries in Macon/Augusta, GA, and Steubenville Construction in Steubenville, OH. Joe was a "Pittsburgh Guy" who was an avid lifelong Pittsburgh sports fan and season ticket holder for Pitt and Steelers football. He loved rooting for the Pitt Panthers, Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins. He also loved coaching baseball for the Beechview Little League and Colt League. Friends received at WOLFE MEMORIAL, LLC, Forest Hills Chapel, 3604 Greensburg Pike, on Sunday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. John Fisher Church on Monday at 12:30 p.m. Private interment in the Cemetery of the Alleghenies with full military honors. RONI JAMES MILLSTINE Formerly of Clinton, currently of Kennedy Twp., died August 1, 2020, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born May 5, 1947, daughter of the late Philip Daniel and Mildred Upole McArdle. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and father of her children, David Sutton James. She was forever thankful to God for blessing her with the love of her husband Herman Millstine, and her daughter Amy James Joyce (Dan) and her grandsons Dan and Sam, who made each day full of love and laughter. She is also survived by her stepson Mark Millstine (Betsy) and grandchildren Hannah and Erik; her siblings John J. McArdle, Nanci A. Jahnke, Susan K. Dodds, and many loving nieces and nephews. Her sister Lenore Thompson Stout also preceded her in death. She wanted to give special thanks to her dearest friends Catherine (Taffy) Krawchyk and Anne Burke. GERTRUDE I. (STECIK) RAGAN Age 76, of Monroeville, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2020. Beloved wife of the late Edward John Ragan. Loving mother of David Edward (Melissa) Ragan, Diane Marie (Chuckie) Brooks, and Danielle Lisa (David) Hysong. Cherished grandmother of Victoria "Tori" (Mary Bryne) Ragan, Kayla Mento, Dylan Hysong, and Daniel Hysong. Sister of Tillie Noschese and Dolly Kostyak. Also survived by her sisters-in-law, Mary Jane (the late Art) Limbacher and Rose (the late Gary) Ragan; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, John and Gertrude (McClesky) Stecik; brothers, Robert Stecik and John (surviving wife, Joan) Stecik; and many loving brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Trudy began her career at Sears Roebuck, and later went on to work as a claims specialist for Prudential, and most recently worked as a cash coordinator for CVS for nearly 20 years. She was a longtime member of both the Byzantine Catholic Church of the Resurrection in Monroeville and Saints Peter and Paul Byzantine Church in Braddock. She always looked forward to taking her grandkids to Eat'n Park, and her greatest joy was the time spent with her family. The poems that she personally wrote for her family's birthdays will be greatly missed, along with her overall quick witted sense of humor and loving nature she had towards all she knew. FRED S. DELVAL III Age 80, of Scott Twp., after a battle with cancer, on July 31, 2020. Beloved husband of the late Margaret J. (Downey) Delval for 51 years; loving father of Freddie (Dawn Crewl) Delval and Scott Delval; cherished grandfather of Melissa (Mike) Flynn and Lindsay (fiancé Joe Ligas) Delval and great-grandfather of Mitchell Flynn; brother of the late Sandi Delval and Joe (Carol) Delval; also survived by many nieces and nephews. Fred served proudly in the U.S. Navy from 1957-1961. He was a retired employee of Universal Cyclops, Bridgeville. He was a Lifetime and founding member of South Fayette VFD #1, Cuddy, and a member of the Glendale Fireman's Club, where he served as financial secretary for over 25 years. GERALDINE M. (BOMBICH) CONROY "GERI" Born September 2, 1934, went to her lord on August 2, 2020. Beloved wife of the late Regis F. Conroy; beloved daughter of the late Regina and Anthony Bombich; dear sister of the late Nan Jean DiBernardo and Jack Bombich (Carol); cherished mother of Thomas (Carol), Martin (Valerie) and the late Kimberly and John Conroy; adoring grandmother of eight and doting great-grandmother of thirteen. Geri was a wonderful mother and homemaker until her late fifties when she started a career as an aide to a Pennsylvania State Representative. She was also an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Teamsters Local 249, proudly supporting her husband and the labor movement. She enjoyed Bingo, dancing and music and she thrived on her grand and great-grandchildren. Her family would like to thank the caring staff on the second floor of the ManorCare - Whitehall for their love and respect for Geri in her final year. No visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial shall be celebrated Thursday, August 6, 2020, at 10 a.m. in the Church of the Resurrection of St. Teresa of Kolkata Parish. REGIS E. COSTELLO On Saturday, Aug. 1, 2020, Regis E. Costello of Emsworth passed away peacefully at the age of 91. Rege was the beloved husband of Margaret “Ruth” Breitenbach Costello, to whom he was married for 68 years. Rege was born on July 29, 1929, and was raised in Glenfield. He graduated from Sewickley High School in 1948 and served in the U.S. Army in active duty for two years and in the U.S. Army Reserve for six years until his honorable discharge as Corporal. Rege was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Erin and his brother, Jack Beeler (survived by his wife, Alice). Rege is survived by his wife, Ruth; sister, Eleanor “Ellie” Nicholson of Washington, GA; daughter, Marilyn (Ed) Markoff; and son, Edward (Carla) Costello. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Hayley (Tim) Hinkle, Steve Markoff, Ryan Costello and Evan Costello; two great-grandchildren, Brayden Hinkle and Mackenzie Hinkle; and many nieces and nephews. He was a familiar face throughout the North Boroughs, in large part because of his daily jogging regimen. A track star in high school, Rege resumed running in his early 40s. As a fierce competitor who was among the fastest distance runners in the country in his age group for decades, he competed in 49 marathons and hundreds of 10k and 5k races - in total logging more than 50,000 miles, equaling twice the circumference of the Earth. Rege served his community in many ways, including as Emsworth Mayor from 1982 to 1989 and as a member of Emsworth Borough Council from 1966 to 1974, with terms as council president and vice president. He was a member of the Avonworth Athletic Council from 1970 to 1974, including terms as vice president and treasurer. He volunteered for the Avonworth Antelopes high school football program, working the sidelines as part of the chain crew for 50 years. He also was an usher at the Sacred Heart dedication Mass in 1955, and continued to serve the parish in that role for the next 60 years. GRETCHEN (PHILLIPS) BENACK Age 90, of Jefferson Hills, PA, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 30, 2020. Born January 27, 1930, in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Hilda (Klingelhofer) and Roy Phillips, and the wife of Benny Benack. She grew up in Clairton, graduated from Clairton High School, and got her B.A. at the University of Pittsburgh. Gretchen was a homemaker and did administrative work for the family music business. She and her husband designed their A-frame home in the style of Frank Lloyd Wright. She was a lover of books, music, travel, and the arts. She dedicated her life to creating a supportive, nurturing and creative environment for her husband, her children and her grandchildren. Gretchen is survived by her three children, Suzie (of Schenectady, NY), Ben (“Peek,” of Pittsburgh), and Flip (of Jefferson Hills); and six grandchildren, Brian Marion, Laura Benack, Jenny Marion, Benny Benack III, Nicole Benack, and Jake Benack). In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Suzanne Phillips, Charles (Bud) Phillips, and Betty (Phillips) Dudiak. BORIS WEINSTEIN Boris (known as Beasey) Weinstein, on Saturday, August 1, 2020, at the age of 88. Beloved son of the late Solomon and Lena Weinstein and brother to Thelma Gold Landay of Pittsburgh. Loving father to Marci Weinstein Wiseman and Carl Weinstein and daughter-in-law, Sarah Weinstein and son-in-law, Bruce Wiseman. Adoring grandfather to Jillian Wiseman and Cole Weinstein and step-grandchildren, Nathan, Todd, Jr., Sydney, Blake, Brenda, Lucas and Cole Kunkel. And stepfather to Todd, Drew and Joel Kunkel. He is survived by his devoted life partner of the last nine years, Evelyn Favish. Boris was an entrepreneur, marketing and public relations executive, and community activist. He graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School, University of Pittsburgh and attended graduate school at Medill School of Journalism, Northwestern University. He served in the US Army before starting his career in the sports and news departments of the Pittsburgh Sun-Telegraph and KDKA-TV. Boris then became a principal of MARC & Co., where for 27 years, as head of media and communications, he helped grow MARC into a leading regional advertising agency. In 1986 he formed The Carson Group, a boutique public relations firm, that focused on many corporate, pro-social endeavors. He went on to serve as marketing consultant to Pizza Hut, Inc. and as Vice-President at President Riverboat Casinos. Boris created the National Young Reader's Day and is credited with making the Book It! reading incentive program into a national success. He was part of the marketing team that developed the McDonald's Big Mac and created Pittsburgh's original public New Year's Eve Celebration at the Liberty Center. Boris conceived of and was the driving force behind the Art Rooney statue at Three Rivers Stadium, later move to Heinz Field. He was the recipient of 10 Golden Quill Awards for his innovative work in media and public relations. In retirement, Boris focused his talents on making the city he loved even better. He created Citizens Against Litter, an anti-litter initiative that started locally in Shadyside, and turned it into a community-wide movement. “Mr. Litterman” organized Redd Up events across Greater Pittsburgh that mobilized over 25,000 volunteers annually in more than 100 local communities to make Pittsburgh beautiful. He worked with multiple mayors and served on the Clean Pittsburgh Commission. For his efforts, Boris was awarded the Jefferson Community Champions Award and Keep America Beautiful's highest honor, the Iron Eyes Cody Award. A Pittsburgher to the core, Boris was an uber fan of all Pittsburgh sports teams and one of the city's biggest cheerleaders. He loved dancing, as well as walking the city's neighborhoods seeing friends and acquaintances. Boris was married for 33 years to Sandra Cohen Weinstein. He remarried in 1994 to Brenda Kunkel Weinstein and survived her death in 2004. Services and Interment Private. ANTHONY M. BRUNO On Saturday, August 1, 2020, age 69, formerly of Sharpsburg. Beloved brother of Edward Bruno (Judy Kasperowski), Ermine Klaus (Robert), Marie Dennis (Wayne), and Carol Yagulli (Ralph). Uncle of Anita, Brent, Ermine, Dana, and Bradley. Also survived by many great-nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his sister-in-law, Audrey Mataya Bruno. Anthony graduated from Sharpsburg High School, where he played football. A veteran of the Vietnam Era, he served in the U.S. Army, and worked for Allegheny County for 38 years. Anthony was very spiritual, had a great sense of humor, was a music lover, and also was a lifelong Pittsburgh sports fan. He was close to his family and will be greatly missed. Beloved sister of the late Mary Tunney and Patrick (Patricia) Tunney; aunt of James (Charlotte), Daniel (Deb), Elizabeth (Oscar) Morejon, Robert, Sheila and the late Frederick and Christopher (Denise); grandaunt of Michael (Ashley), Justin, Sean, Olivia, Sara, Zoe, Kevin and Annie; and great-grandaunt of Charlotte, Morgan, Jacob and Faye. Ms. Tunney was a White House aide during the Eisenhower administration, worked on Project Hope and retired after many years with Time Life. RICHARD G. "DICK" MOORE Richard G. "Dick" Moore, 85 years old, of Cecil, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2020, with his loving wife of 63 years, Kay, by his side. Surviving in addition to his wife, Kay Campbell Moore, are his children, Cheryl Owens of Cecil Twp., and Richard "Rick" (Maria) Moore of North Fayette Twp.; grandchildren, Jordan, Katie (Matt) McDonald, and Matthew. He is also survived by his brothers, J. Robert (Elaine) Moore of Clarion, David (Priscilla) Moore of Radford, VA, and James (Linda) Moore of Cecil; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Edith Mawhinney Moore. He was born June 13, 1935, in Clinton, and graduated from Cecil High School in 1953. He was a diesel mechanic and member of Operating Engineers Local 66 for many years. He was a member of Venice Presbyterian Church, and a former Elder. He was Treasurer of Venice Cemetery, and a member of Chartiers F&AM Masonic Lodge 297, Canonsburg. Dick was an avid hunter. WILLIAM MICHAEL "WILL" GRAVES William Michael (“Will”) Graves died peacefully on July 31, 2020 in his home in the Point Breeze neighborhood of Pittsburgh, PA. Will was born on December 5, 1969, in London, England, UK, the son of Michael Graves and Pamela (Taylor) Graves. He came to the United States with his family as a child and remained here thereafter. Will graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School and The University of Pittsburgh. Will has had many pursuits over the years. His interests ranged from golfing, bicycling, and playing ice hockey. Will loved to create stories and write them out on paper using a real ink pen. His true love was spending time with his family and his dog, Baxter. Will was loved greatly by his family; his wife, Jennifer (Lewis) Graves; his sons, John Graves and James Graves; his parents, Michael Graves and Pamela Graves (deceased); sisters, Nancy Graves, Katy Graves, and Rachel (Graves) Place; and by his large extended family. Funeral Tuesday, August 4, 2020, Mass of Christian Burial St. Mary Magdalene Parish, St. Bede Church at 10:00 AM. GERTRUDE MALLET Age 93, died on August 2, 2020. Beloved wife of the late Mervin Mallet; beloved mother of Iris Harlan (Christoph) and the late Patricia Mallet. Beloved grandmother of Aaron Harlan (Lilian) and Isaac Harlan; great-grandmother of Leonardo Lee Harlan. Beloved aunt of Stephen Rosen and Wendy Levine. Dearest friend of so many. Known as “Gert” or “Go Go Gertie” to those who knew her best. Gert had an exceptional zest for life. Born in Pittsburgh in 1927 to Peter and Lena Rosen, she developed a love for theatre and music at a young age. She had an eye for beauty and fashion and carved a career as an Interior Designer. Throughout their 60 years of marriage, Gert and Merv were known to see every show in town, whether Michael Jordan, Walt Harper or Buddy Greco and never missed a Steelers game. Likewise devoted to their grandsons, they never missed Aaron's little league games or Isaac's jazz concerts. Their strong love enabled them to endure the loss in 1982 of their cherished Patti. Their enjoyment of one another's company and devotion served as inspiration to many. Until the end of April 2020, when she sustained an injury from a fall, Gert continued to pursue many interests. At Concordia of the South Hills, where she lived for the past three years, she organized trips to museums and casinos and broke into the men's poker club. As said by her nephew, Steve, she was the one we could always depend on for generosity, love and joy. Services and Interment Private. RICHARD D. ORR Age 71, of Pittsburgh, on Sunday, August 2, 2020. Beloved son of Bernadette E. (Wetter) and the late David B. Orr. Brother to Donald (Joyce) Orr, Geraldine Orr, and Robert (late Cecelia) Orr. Uncle to four nieces and nephews and eight grandnieces and nephews. Good friend of Alyssa Rea and her daughter Emily. Richard was a life member and past Commander–in-Chief of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War; a member of the Western Pennsylvania Model Railroad Museum. He served on the Board of Directors for Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum Trust, Inc. Richard retired from the Allegheny County Health Department as an administrator. Family and friends are welcome Wednesday from 2-5 p.m. at DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, 806 Perry Highway, North Hills. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish/St. Teresa of Avila Church. Interment will follow at Christ Our Redeemer Catholic Cemetery. JEAN E. (JACKSON) SINAGRA Age 87, of West View, on Saturday, August 1, 2020. Beloved wife of the late Charles R. Bonenberger and Jack Sinagra; mother of Edward Bonenberger, Lynda Bonenberger, Steve (Amy) Bonenberger, and Dean (Kim) Bonenberger; grandmother of Mitchell, Garrett, Morgan, and Luke; sister of Joyce C.
