MARY ANDREA (KOSSLER) COLLINS "ANDI" Age 80, of Scott Township, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Saturday, July 4, 2020. Beloved wife of 58 years to the late Dennis J. Collins. Devoted mother to her seven children: Matthew Collins (Suzan), Christopher Collins (Nancy), Megan Bashaw (Bob), Brian Collins (Amy), Katie Collins (Jamie), Benjamin Collins (Kristin), and Luke Collins. Cherished Gram to her 19 grandchildren. Sister to Margaret Schlottman (Jim), Barbara McFeeley (Jack), Daniel Kossler (Sharon), Joanne Oeschlein (Don), Thomas Connelly (Betty), Mary Beth Hart (Bill) and the late Jean Sieber. She was born and raised in Pittsburgh's Sheridan area. A 1957 graduate of Langley High School where she excelled as a cheerleader and was Queen of her Junior Prom. She attended Mercy School of Nursing (class of 1960) on a scholarship from Women of the Moose Pgh Chapter and worked for the Visiting Nurses Association until 1963. During this time she met Dennis the love of her life! Tall, handsome with blue eyes that matched his Lincoln convertible. Andi absolutely loved nursing. She continued her nursing career working night shift for 18 years at John Kane Hospital and then 20 years at St. Clair Hospital where she received the Cameo of Caring Award before retiring in 2005. “Gram”, “She-Ha”, “Grammy”, “Mom” is remembered as a strong and loving mother and adored grandmother who counted her family and faith as her greatest blessings. She will be remembered for her big heart, great cooking, determined spirit, and love of southern comfort old fashions! Andi's family would like to thank the medical personnel of UPMC Mercy for their love and compassionate care during their mother's recent visits. LINDA LEE (BRUCE) PIKUTIS Unexpectedly on Thursday, July 2, 2020, Linda Lee (Bruce) Pikutis, age 68, of Baldwin Boro. Beloved wife of 47 years to Frank Pikutis; mother of Frank Pikutis, Heather (Chad) VanTassel, Marti (Michael Babik) Pikutis, Justin Pikutis and Joshua (Nicole) Pikutis; grandmother of Liz Pikutis, Frank Pikutis, Miranda Pikutis-Babik, Cassie Pikutis-Babik, Jadyn VanTassel; great-grandmother of Evangeline, Rosalina and Elijah; sister of Connie Doutt, Helen Sarah Swisshelm, Anna Barber, Billy Backus, and the late Sandy Backus; also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins. Linda was an exceptionally loving, kindhearted woman who never stopped giving, and always reminded those around her how important they were to her. She loved her children and grandchildren more than anything, and would drop whatever she was doing to help anyone in need. She devoted a lot of time to others, including as a caregiver at a local convent. She was a tremendous artist and had a knack for baking, which allowed her to make amazing wedding cakes for members of her family. ROBERT G. MASON Age 81, of Shallotte, NC, died July 1, 2020. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on July 23, 1938, son of the late Chester Mason and Ruth Schenck Mason. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Jo Hughes Mason. He was a US Army Veteran and had retired from Westinghouse Corporation. He was an avid and excellent golfer. After his early retirement, he moved to North Carolina to fulfill his lifelong dream. Surviving are his daughter, Sheri Smith (Keith) of Ellwood City, PA; son, Robert J. Mason (Lisa) of Upper Burrell, PA; and grandchildren, Brendan Mason and Christian Mason of Pittsburgh, PA and Derek Smith of Ellwood City, PA. Services will be conducted at a later date. HELEN M. (PAPA) HOWARD Age 65, of Monroeville, PA, died Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at her home, with her family by her side. She was born Nov. 15, 1954, at the then Pittsburgh Hospital and was the daughter of the late Anthony F. and Mary A. (Busija) Papa. She worked at Thorofare supermarket in Murrysville, MSA, Sears & Affordable Maids in Wilkins Twp,. and Triangle Poster & Printing Co. in Wilkinsburg. Her love for children led her to volunteer as a lunch/office aide at University Park Elementary School in Monroeville for numerous years. She also had numerous years invested as a Girl Scout Troop leader and more recently as a 2nd grade CCD instructor at St. Bernadette Parish. She was a faithful servant of God and left her mark by always having a selfless, loving, upbeat, positive attitude. She had a love for sewing and making crafts. She is survived by her beloved husband, Barry R. Howard; loving mother of Lori M. (RJ) Dranusky of Cranberry Twp. and Sarah A. MAY L. HENSON Passed away at the age of 85 on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 of the North Side. May Henson was a loving mother, sister, and grandmother. May was born to John and Margaret Nicol in Detroit, Michigan on August 23, 1934. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Anthony “Jack” Henson. Survived by brother Neal Nicol, Kathy Bonello, the late Margie Sultana (Victor), and Jack Nicol (Ester). She was the mother of seven children, Lola Heiser (George), Velma Coppinger (Chuck), the late Chuck Henson, Nancy Mann (Randy) Anell Volpe, John Henson (Sugie) and Sally Sterritt. May was the grandmother to Chucky Coppinger (Kathy), Chalk Heiser, Tony Heiser, Kimberly Wehner (Skip), Brandi Mann,Shauna Henson-Cordwell (Bill), Michael Henson (Amy), the late James Henson (Melody), Mandy Conner (Lawson) and Amber Mann. Along with 11 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren. Also Survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends. May was a proud employee of Nabisco in East liberty where she was the first female foreman, and after 39 years, she retired. She had a passion for writing poetry and spending much of her time in Sigel, PA with family. May was an extremely strong woman, loved and admired by all who knew her. CARL FUHRMAN, M.D. Age 67, of Pittsburgh, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2020, at UPMC Presbyterian. He was born in Erie, PA, on August 11, 1952 ,to the late Carl and Ann (Voleski) Fuhrman. He is survived by three sisters, Barbara Pugel (late Lud Pugel) of Cleveland, OH, Mary McIlroy (Bill) of Huntingdon, PA and Carol Hagen of Tucson, AZ; nieces, Stacey Serafini (Chris) and Elizabeth Pugel Runevitch (Scott); nephews, Paul Hagen (Laura), Jeff Pugel (Alina) and John McIlroy (Katie); great-niece, Sophia Pugel; great-nephews, Will Pugel and John McIlroy. Carl graduated from Cathedral Prep in Erie, PA in 1970 and completed his medical education and training at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, graduating Cum Laude in 1979, and completed a residency in diagnostic radiology in 1983. He became an assistant professor in radiology at the University of Pittsburgh, rising through the ranks to reach full professor in 1994. Carl was chief of thoracic radiology; a position he held almost continuously for the past 27 years. He was a leader in the field of thoracic radiology. Through his clinical work and research activities, made substantial contributions to the imaging of lung diseases, including emphysema, lung cancer and interstitial lung disease. As a highly respected radiologist, Carl was frequently invited to give lectures both in the United States and abroad and served as a visiting professor at multiple institutions. His commitment to patient care and his teaching ability were recognized and he was named to the prestigious 2014 and 2018 “Best Doctors in America” list; an honor reserved for the top 5% of U.S. doctors as decided by peer review. His teaching ability was highly recognized; and he was the recipient of the Ronald J. Hoy Excellence in Teaching Award from the department of radiology, a total of 15 times. In 2016, the Ronald J. Hoy Excellence in Teaching Award transitioned to the Carl R. Fuhrman Excellence in Teaching Award to recognize Carl's passion and dedication to educating the next generation of radiologists. Carl's teaching contributions were recognized by medical departments outside of Radiology and Carl won the University of Pittsburgh Golden Apple Award nine times. Presented by the senior medical class each year, this award recognizes the faculty member chosen by the students as their best teacher. The Office of the Provost bestowed Carl with the President's Distinguished Teaching Award, deemed the highest teaching award at the University of Pittsburgh. Carl served as the Director of Undergraduate Medical Education. He directed the medical school Advanced Radiology Course and co-directed the Anatomy Life Science Course. Carl served on a wide array of committees that served both the hospital and the University of Pittsburgh Medical School. He recently completed his tenure as the President of Alliance of Medical Student Educators in Radiology (AMSER). He enjoyed his extensive travels and meeting people during his time at conferences and lectures. In addition to his devotion to radiology, he enjoyed photography, his Corvette, and his family. Carl was a dedicated and loving son, brother, and uncle. Friends are invited to attend a funeral mass at St. Luke Church, 421 E 38th St., Erie, PA on Thursday July 9 th at 11:00 a.m. Covid-19 social distancing and face covering guidelines will be enforced. Private interment will be at Calvary Cemetery. In addition to the funeral mass in Erie, a memorial service will be held for Carl in Pittsburgh at UPMC Presbyterian on Wednesday, July 15, 2020, at 12 noon outside of the hospital. At a future date, the family will host a memorial service in Erie, PA to celebrate Carl's life with friends and family. In memory of Carl a Radiology Education Fund has been established. DEX WILLIAM DEAKIN Pittsburgh: Dex William Deakin, a resident of Bellevue, PA, died unexpectedly on July 1, 2020, at the age of 33. Dex is survived by his mother, Rhonda Deakin; and his aunts, Diane and Linda Deakin, all of Pittsburgh; his cousin, Kylie Brown and her husband, Brian, and children, of Bellevue; his uncle, William Deakin of West Decatur; his aunt, Veronica, and uncle, James Anderson, and cousins, Dakota and Jesse Anderson, of Ross Township; his aunt, Carole, and uncle, Greg Helsel, of Denver, CO; and his cousin, Chris Helsel of Parker, CO. He wass preceded in death by grandparents, Marlies and William Deakin. Dex was born in Clearfield, PA on December 6, 1986. As a child, he moved with his mother to Bellevue, a suburb of the Greater Pittsburgh Area. Those who knew Dex loved him for his quick wit, his dedication and compassion for his family and friends, and his willingness to help others. Dex was an avid animal lover and was great with kids. Dex was also known to assist his aunts in their caregiving duties for the elderly. Dex will be dearly missed by his friends and family, and all who knew him. WILLIAM "BILL" PARSONS, JR. Age 75, a lifelong resident of Clairton, passed away at his home on Friday, July 3, 2020. William was born in Charleroi on June 22, 1945 to the late William R. Parsons, Sr. and Sevilla Simpson Parsons. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Alice Griffiths Parsons. William is survived by his sons, William R. (Tamara) Parsons of Hamilton, Ontario Canada, and Chris W. Parsons, of Clairton; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends, as well as his dogs, Chico and Cisco. He was preceded in death by his sister, Dolores Schimmel. He was a member of Pine Run United Methodist Church in Clairton. CONGETTA M. PALARINO "DOLLY" "CONNIE" Of East Pittsburgh, over the past five years a resident of LGAR in Turtle Creek, died on Sunday, July 5, 2020. Dolly was the oldest child of John and Theresa (Visco) Palarino. Dolly is survived by her brother, John “Sonny” (Jean) Palarino and her sisters, Angie (Joe) Spadaro of Chalfant and Grace (David) Busha of North Huntingdon. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Mary “Honey” (Tom) Parente, Helen (late Greg) Prosdicimo, Nancy (late Don) Rutter, and Annette (late Lloyd) Mullin. Dolly is also survived by many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews. Dolly began her work career at Westinghouse in East Pittsburgh laboring in the manufacturing of helmets for the military during WWII. After the war, she was employed as a sales associate for G.C. Murphy in East Pittsburgh until the store closed. She was a longtime member of the former St. William Church and Holy Cross Parish. Her favorite pastimes were spending time with family and playing bingo. Friends are welcome on Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. at PATRICK T. JANE (FITZGERALD) TREHERNE-THOMAS Of Sewickley, died on July 4, 2020, at the age of 84. Jane was born in Portsmouth, Virginia, on August 18, 1935, to Colonel William and Mary Coleman Parrish Fitzgerald. Her father served in many posts during and after World War II, and Jane lived in California, Virginia, New York City and Okinawa. Jane graduated from Sweet Briar College in 1957 as a music major, and music remained the love of her life. Jane was predeceased by her husband, Jeremy Treherne-Thomas, in 1984. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, BIll and Pat Fitzgerald; and grandnephew, Ethan Dorian of Virginia Beach, VA. Jane was an outstanding gardener and garden designer and her small city garden in Sewickley is archived at The Smithsonian Museum. Jane was a past president of The Garden Club of Allegheny County, a Garden Club of America Club, and a past Board member of The Pittsburgh Symphony. Jane has served on the vestry of Calvary Church, Shadyside. Never at a loss for words, Jane was entertaining, witty, well informed and very stylish. She shall be missed by her many friends. JOHN EUGENE BOSKO John E. Bosko, of Munhall, on July 5, 2020, age 89. Beloved husband of 57 years to the late Mary Ann (Zupetic) Bosko; father of Donna (Michael) Uhouse, John M. Bosko, and David (Maryellen) Bosko; grandfather of Michael Uhouse, David Bosko, John Bosko, Emily Bosko, and Reagan Bosko; brother of Dolores Ragan, Florence Malutinok, and the late Martina Bosko. John was a 20 year member of the Board of Directors of the Munhall/Homestead Housing Association, and was a longtime member of St. Therese Church. He was an avid fisherman, 50 year season pass holder of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and loved his cigars. His favorite time of year was the annual family vacation in Nags Head. LAWRENCE T. SAMPIETRO Age 76, of Wexford, on Saturday, July 4, 2020. Larry was born in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of Cosimo and Antoinette Sampietro. He is the beloved husband of Theresa (Zbasnik) Sampietro; dear father of Lisa (fiance Larry) and Joseph (Christina); and papap of Caden and Tommy; and brother of Joseph (Pat) of CA. Larry was a Vietnam era veteran, proudly serving in the U.S. Airforce as a Crew Chief on B-52s. Following his military service, he joined Verizon as a lineman, finishing his 25 year career as an engineer. In his retirement, he was able to work at his "dream job" selling woodworking tools at a local woodworkers shop. He was an avid woodworker and gardener. Larry was an active member of St. Alexis Church, serving as a greeter at Sunday Mass, and volunteering at the annual flea market and Lenten fish fry. Larry was a friend to all, kind, generous, determined and always quick with a joke or to lend a helping hand. His family will remember him as a master chocolate chip cookie baker, spaghetti sauce maker and the king of the Thanksgiving turkey and stuffing. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., at the GEORGE A. THOMA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 10418 Perry Hwy., Wexford, where Covid-19 protocol will be followed. Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, July 8, at 10 a.m., at St. Aidan Parish (formerly St. Alexis Church), 10090 Old Perry Hwy., Wexford. CHRISTINE C. PETERS Of Wexford, passed peacefully on Saturday, June 27, 2020. Predeceased by her husband, Jon; parents, Edwin and Marie; and siblings, Herman and Marietta. She is survived by her son, Ryan (Heather) and grandchildren, Ashton and Adelaide of Sarasota, FL; as well as many nieces and nephews. Originally from Sodus, NY, Christine spent 30 years in Pittsburgh's North Hills. Friends and family remember her as a great keeper of secrets, always sympathetic, and loyal. A social distance-friendly memorial will be held on Friday, July 10, 2020, at 4 p.m. at The Point shelter in North Park. Her final interment will be alongside her husband in Pultneyville, NY.
