JERALD GREGORY HAZARD Age 52, was called home to the Lord on June 30, 2020. Beloved son, brother, husband, uncle and friend, he will be remembered always by the many people whose lives he touched. Jerry was predeceased in death by his parents, James Stephen Hazard and Joan Hope Wood Hazard. He is survived by his brothers and sisters, Jan Brocco and husband, Marty; James “Jay” Hazard Jr. and wife, Susan; Jeff Hazard and wife, Karen; and Jean Hazard-Ozimek and husband, Greg. Jerry is also survived by his former wife, and greatest love, April Oliver. Uncle Jerry will be dearly missed by his nieces and nephews: Jill Matos and husband, Rico; Jeff Hazard and wife, Shawnelle; James “Jimmy” Hazard III and wife, Courteney; J. Jude Hazard and wife, Melissa; and Jacob Ozimek and fiancee, Cera King; along with many other family and friends. Jerry was born on February 20, 1968 and grew up in Bellevue, PA. He enjoyed exploring new worlds through cinema, music and fiction, and was a lover of his dogs and rock ‘n roll. Jerry spent more than 20 years working in information technology and computer security. The Hazard-Ozimek annual golf vacation was often the highlight of Jerry's year, and many of Jerry's wayward golf balls populate the woods of Treasure Lake to this very day. LOIS IFFT BURWINKEL Of McMurray, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2020. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, John (Jack) W. Burwinkel and by their beloved daughter, Loann Burwinkel. Those who knew Lois would describe her as a resilient woman and the epitome of class. Children held a special place in Lois's heart throughout her life. She earned a B.S. in Education from the University of Pittsburgh in 1954. She went on to teach countless nursery school classes and served as Director of YMCA's Preschool from 1972-1980. No matter where she lived, neighborhood children always counted on her for craft projects and for elaborate and creative Halloween costumes for her own children. Later in life, Lois channeled her creativity into a different field, interior design; she worked for Pepperberry Designs and Langston Interiors. Many people turned to Lois for their beautifully designed homes. Lois grew up in Bloomfield and graduated from Ursuline Academy before enrolling at Pitt where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She lived in Athens, Georgia for two years while her husband served in the Navy. She lived in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia and for most of her adult life. Lois was an avid bridge player and bowler. She was also a member of Valley Brook Country Club from 1990-2020. Lois is survived by her son, John (Jay) Burwinkel Jr. (Carolyn), daughter, Elizabeth (Beth) O'Neil (Thomas), sister Elizabeth Ifft Jacob, brother Edward C. Ifft Jr. (Audrey), as well as seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, who brought her tremendous joy. Lois also leaves behind many adoring nieces, nephews and extended family. PHYLLIS A. (SCHEETZ) CECOTTI Of North Strabane, and formerly of Whitehall, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, July 2, 2020. Aged 75 years, she was born in Pittsburgh, the daughter of the late Earl and Elizabeth Scheetz; beloved wife of Chester Cecotti, married for over 48 years; devoted mother to her two children, Debbie (Randy) Carver of Worthington, OH, and Michael Cecotti of Whitehall; adoring grandmother to Jacob and Samuel Carver. Phyllis is also survived by her loving sister, Cathy (Dave) Koett of Bethel Park, as well as friends and other family members who loved her dearly. Phyllis's passion in life was her family, of which she was incredibly proud. She also loved spending time with her friends: front porch chats, card club, and lunches and dinners out with the “Ya-Ya's”. OLGA T. (THOMAS) JAHN Of McCandless, formerly of Laurel Gardens, died on Thursday, July 2, 2020 at Vincentian Home at 92 years of age. She was born on July 28, 1927 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late John and Elizabeth Thomas. In 1947 she married George N. Jahn. Olga was a longtime parishioner of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. She also served as director of the Czech Catholic Union for a number of years. Olga loved her family and always put the family's needs ahead of her own. She is survived by her sons, Larry G. Jahn (Ellen) and Jeffrey P. Jahn (Cathy); daughter, Donna L. Jahn; sisters, Alice Nicola and Olive Pine; grandmother of Sharon Ritenour (Jason) and Greg Jahn (Lendie Fecara); and great-grandchildren, Meghan and Joseph Ritenour. She was preceded in death by her husband, George; sister, Pearl Sloan and brother, Paul Thomas. Services and interment will be privately held. PAUL E. BROSTROM Age 83, of New Brighton, Pennsylvania, went to be with his Lord and Savior, on April 13, 2020, at the Heritage Valley Medical Center of Beaver, Pennsylvania. Paul was born on February 9, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois to Nils and Evelyn (Rygh) Brostrom. Paul graduated from Lane Technical High School in Chicago, where he was captain of his football team, and as an Illinois all-state football selection played for the Chicago City Championship at Soldier's Field. Paul further continued his football career, as an offensive linemen and kicker, at The University of Wisconsin in the Big Ten, and later transferred to Southern Illinois where he was team captain and was later inducted into its All-Time Team. Upon graduation, he received interest from The Detroit Lions of the N.F.L., but injuries cut short his playing career. Paul then began a coaching and teaching career at Chicago's East Leyden High School, where he helped take them to two State Championships. While at East Leyden High School, he coached future Denver Broncos and 2-time Super Bowl winning head coach, Mike Shanahan, in both football and wrestling. Upon completing two Master's degrees and dissertator's status in his Doctorate at The University of Wisconsin, he was asked to become the athletic director for the Northern Wisconsin High School Athletic Association, as well as becoming Principal and Director of Curriculum for Turtle Lake High School. After his years as principal and athletic director at Turtle Lake High School, he pursued a career in business and joined Energy Consultants Inc., a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania management and consulting firm to the nuclear and power industries. Paul played a key role working in marketing, sales and business development, and was instrumental in bidding and securing key contracts for major utilities, including Ohio Edison, Oklahoma Power & Light, and many others. He then worked providing prime contracting services for James Wanner & Associates, followed by providing consulting and engineering services to the utility and power industry with Rutherford & Associates. Paul was the beloved husband of Elaine (Prisuta) Brostrom for 49 years and the loving father of Paul F. (Angel) Brostrom of Chippewa, PA and Lauren (Richard) Rushak of Sewickley, PA. His most enjoyable moments were spent with his cherished granddaughters, Natalia, Khristina and Annika Rushak, Elizabeth Brostrom, and Elizabeth's half-sisters, Lauren and Emily Reed. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service Saturday, July 11, 2020 at 2 p.m. at St. Stephen Anglican Church, 405 Frederick Ave., Sewickley, PA 15143. ROSE C. (GAMBERI) TAMBURRO Rose C. (Gamberi) Tamburro, on Thursday, July 2, 2020, age 90, of Verona, went to meet the love of her life, Nicola, in Heaven after 70 years of marriage together. Rose was the beloved daughter of the late Giovanni and Geralda Gamberi. Wife of the late Nicola Tamburro. Sister of the late Nicola Gamberi, Osvoldo Gamberi, Edmondo Gamberi, Vincenzo Gamberi, Maria Santucci, and Antonio Gamberi. She is survived by her children, John (Linda) Tamburro, Amelia (Tom) Soisson, Diana (Jeffrey) Vescera, Paola (late Gary) Gent, and Nick (Marybeth) Tamburro. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and their spouses, and eight great-grandchildren. Rose was a member at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Verona, and enjoyed camping, gardening, and loved her family dearly. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins in Italy and locally too many to mention, and they were all dear to her heart. Jacob was a 2016 graduate of Norwin High School and was a member of the basketball team. Jake also played basketball for the Pittsburgh Pressure, a local AAU team, and enjoyed baseball as a member of various community and travel teams. Ron was the beloved and cherished companion of the late Betty Skaro; beloved and aggravating companion of Kathy Pajak; beloved, ridiculous, frustrating and caring big brother to Bob and the late Rick Moskal; beloved, funny and teasing uncle to the late Stacey Moskal; beloved, protective, jagoff, fun-loving uncle and godfather to Mike Moskal. Ron was a familiar face at most social clubs in the tri-county area, and his ability to strike a conversation with anyone and be friends with them by the end of the night was well known and will be missed. CAROL RUTH NEIFERT Of McCandless, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 27, 2020 after a battle with metastatic breast cancer. She was born in 1948 in Pittsburgh, PA to Katherine and Ralph Nurnberger and was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Ken; sons, Robert (Bobby) and Tim; grandchildren, Zaya and Conrad; her sisters, Mim and Judy; her brother, Mark, and their families. Carol devoted her life to teaching and her many communities. In her professional career she taught HomeEc at Commodore Perry started and ran a preschool at Zion's United Church of Christ, her church in Greenville, PA, and for many years worked in Greenville and later Pittsburgh as a Family Center specialist. In that position she brought books and games to home visits for kids to parents in need and supported the families' efforts to get receive job training and medical and professional services. In each of these roles her caring and dedication to each child's well being shone through, and her friendships with all her families grew into cherished friendships. One of her great pleasures after retirement was vacationing with Ken at their favorite spot at Lake Erie, where they walked the shore added to their collection of beach glass. Like her expanding beach glass collection, she added to her community in Pittsburgh through her volunteer activities at McKnight United Methodist Church, Project Linus blanket making for kids in need at hospitals, making Flood Buckets, and enjoying time with the expanding group of grandkids in the next generation. She will be remembered for her big heart, determined spirit, flowering garden, and always helping organize the next get together for her immediate and extended families. A memorial service will be held after it is safe to do so. ANN M. MULKERN Ann M. "Nancy" Mulkern, 89, formerly of Finleyville, died Friday, July 3, 2020, at The Grand Residence of Upper St. Clair Assisted Living Center. She was born October 4, 1930, in Pittsburgh; a daughter of William, Sr. and Clara Moeller Harvey. Mrs. Mulkern was retired as a case worker with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry unemployment office in Charleroi. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Finleyville and enjoyed cooking, baking, shopping, decorating and spending time with her growing family. Surviving are three sons, Michael Mulkern (Susan) of Pittsburgh, Daniel Mulkern (Robin) of Eighty Four and Joseph Mulkern of Finleyville; two daughters, Donna Ward of Sewickley and Kimberly Hufnagel (David) of Finleyville; a brother, James Harvey of Pittsburgh; ten grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren. Deceased are her husband, Joseph F. Mulkern, who died June 29, 1965; a brother, Dr. William Harvey; and a sister, Claire Rathke. BENITA MARIE (HARNISH) ZVONAR Age 89, of Mt. Lebanon and originally of Belvidere, IL, on Thursday, July 2, 2020. Beloved wife for 68 years of Paul J. Zvonar; devoted mother of Lynn (Dan) Oelrich, Lori (Dave) Liba, Mark (Cindy), Susie Seeman, Judy Myers, Greg (Judy) and the late Jeffrey Paul Zvonar; loving grandmother of eight great-grandmother of 14; sister of the late Benjamin F. Harnish, III; also survived by nieces and nephews. Benita was Valedictorian of her High School class and received a Scholarship to the University of Illinois. She was an avid adventurer, enjoying among other things, camping trips with her family to many National Parks, skiing trips to Vail Colorado, rafting and vacations in Florida. Benita was a life guard, Girl Scout Troop Leader and loved traveling the world with her beloved Paul. She was a member of and Eucharistic Minister at St. Bernard Church in Mt.Lebanon. There will be a Blessing Service Live-Streamed from Benita's obituary at LAUGHLIN CREMATION & FUNERAL TRIBUTES website, Thursday, July 9 at 12 noon. Interment in Mt.
