DAVID EDWARD SOBEK David Edward Sobek died on May 30, 2020, in Roswell, GA, following a brief illness. He was 89. Mr. Sobek was born on September 4, 1930, in Braddock, PA, to his parents Edward and Anna Sobek. He graduated from Scott High School in North Braddock, PA and after joining the U.S. Army and serving in the 101st Airborne and the Signal Corps, attended the University of Pittsburgh and Penn State University. He married the former Ellen Pekar in 1956, and the couple had two children, David and Dana. The Sobeks moved to Marietta, GA in 1977 and were founding members of the Catholic Church of St. Ann, where David served as a volunteer usher for over 35 years. He was also a life member of the Elks and the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Sobek had a 45 year career in the financial services industry, where he worked for Household Finance Corporation and BIazer Financial Services, before retiring from TRW in 1995. In his retirement years, he enjoyed traveling, fishing, reading and supporting his favorite football teams, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers, Georgia Bulldogs and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Mr. Sobek was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Ellen; and by his sisters, Betty Lou Harman and Florence Smith. He is survived by his son, David Sobek (Page), of Marietta, GA, daughter, Dana Rivard (Jean-Francois) of Cumming, GA; and three grandchildren, David Sobek, and Julia and Nicholas Rivard. Mr. Sobek's life will be celebrated during a private, family ceremony at a later date. DOROTHY CAROL CLAUS Age 82, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2020, of McCandless. Carol was born on January 15, 1938 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; preceding her in death were parents Frank Wastek and Dorothy (William Sr.) McLaughlin, both of Pittsburgh. Carol was the beloved sister of the late Thomas (Joanne) Wastek of Pittsburgh, Gregory (Cheryl) Wastek of Las Vegas, and William (Susanne) McLaughlin of Mt. Pleasant. Carol was the loving aunt to Shelley, Patty, Debbie, Kaitlin, and Steve, and the great-aunt to Tommy, Alex, Josh and Jake. Also surviving is her dear friend, Dr. Angela Stupi, of Allison Park. Outgoing and charismatic, Carol will be remembered as a funny and fun-loving woman, who loved gatherings of her family and friends. Carol was a natural athlete; she excelled at both golf and softball, playing the latter as member of the Hunt's Tavern team. She served as a longtime referee for WPIAL Girls Basketball. Over the years, Carol enjoyed summers at Pymatuning Lake, as well as extensive travel and cruises. She was an avid animal lover. In her professional life, Carol spent many years as an office manager for Drs. Silverberg and Rosenbach in Oakland, and Dr. Angela Stupi, in Wexford. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Catherine of Sweden Church at a future date. The family would like to extend special thanks to Barbara Fischer for her care and compassion. ROSE MARIE (DEFINO) FAZIO On Tuesday, June 2nd, 2020, with her family at her side, peacefully, age 93. Beloved Wife of the late Russell M. Fazio, Sr.; loving mother of Paulette Fazio, Michele Cardamone and her husband, Joe, Russell Fazio, Jr., and the late Vincent; dear gaga of Maria and her husband, Brian, Gina and her husband, Brett, Russell and his wife, Jill, Tony, Julia and her husband, Bobby, Jessica and her husband, Walt, Nick, Vincent Bub and John; great-grandmother of Bella, Luna, Lucca, Cameron, Roman, Anthony, Giana, Olivia, Emilia, Benjamin, Francesca, James and Vinny; sister of the late Anna Marie Certo. Rose lived a selfless, giving life. Born in Swissvale, she was a Swissvale High School cheerleader. Married Russell and were happily married for 59 years. She loved secretarial work and was the secretary for her Pella cousins luncheons every month. She left her family a treasure of memories in diaries, chronicling her family's lives and events with her personal thoughts on everything from 1976 to 2017. She played the piano as a child and didn't play again until 1976 when she got her first piano since childhood. Surprising her family, she played beautifully with feeling and talent. Classical music was her favorite. She raised her children and grandchildren with love and good food. She had all holiday feasts at her home, cooked and baked by herself, her specialty was eggplant parmesan and Easter ham, cheese calzones and antipasto. She traveled quite a bit with her husband and daughter through US, Europe and the Mid-East. She also traveled to Florida many times to stay with her son and grandsons. She was an officer of the Italian Sons and Daughters Primavera Lodge 149. She also worked at Gatti's Neighborhood Drugstore where she gave ice cream cones to all of her kids, nieces and nephews for free. When she quit, she owed Mr. Gatti 14 dollars. She was a Democratic Committee Woman for the 14th Ward for many years. Mostly she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Rose was sweet and kind and humble, all her 93 years. She lived a healthy life, despite her eating habits consisting of mostly ice cream and candy. She brought people together with parties and organized block parties. FRANCIS LEO LOUGHRAN, JR. Passed away peacefully at home surrounded by love on May 28, 2020. Francis was born in Braddock, PA where he was raised along with his three brothers. He proudly graduated from St. Bonaventure College prior to being drafted into the Marine Corps. Francis spent most of his professional career working as a social worker in the State of PA and later retired to the town of Southport, NC with his beloved wife Ritchie Marguerite Loughran. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He lived his life trusting in God's plan, loving deeply through God's light and living as God's loyal servant and a Eucharistic minister for many years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southport. He was also an avid sports fan and never missed a Steelers or Pirates game, win or lose. He led by example, enjoyed good conversation and always gave the best advice. Francis has been joyfully reunited in heaven with his love and partner in life Marguerite as well as their son Francis, daughter Kevin, his brothers Patrick and James, parents Margaret and Francis L. Loughran, Sr. and Kevin's husband Robert Fitzgerald, Jr. He is survived by his brother David and his children, Michael (Joan), Neil (Dianne), Katie (Bill Pinder), Daniel (Heidi), Megan (Jack Flynn) and Robert (Cheryl). Grandchildren, Cory, Brendan (Caitlin), Alex, Tyler (Kayla), Connor, Kelly, and Paige Loughran, Casey Sellers (Adam), Bridget Wilson (Ryan), Caitlin Avon, (Mike), Maura Pinder and Jake Flynn (Sophie). He was also thrilled to be a great-grandfather Great Pop to Stetson Sellers and Gabriel and Caleb Loughran. Francis was also uncle to dozens of nieces and nephews, a wonderful brother-in-law and was a treasured part of two large and loving Irish families. ELSA SURLOFF Elsa Faye Surloff passed away peacefully in her home of over 65 years on May 28, 2020 at the age of 90 with her daughter Ellen Surloff at her side. The rest of the family was with her spiritually but unable to travel to Pittsburgh due to the pandemic. Elsa was the beloved wife of the late Earl Surloff with whom she enjoyed 40 years of marriage; the devoted daughter of the late Samuel and Evelyn Maryn; the loving mother of Ellen Surloff and Sam Surloff (Joanne Van Emburgh); and the loving grandmother of Mallory Falk, Joshua Falk and Emily Surloff. Elsa was a graduate of Peabody High School and the University of Pittsburgh, an excellent golfer, dedicated Pittsburgh sports fan, avid reader, crossword puzzle aficionado and outstanding bridge player. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Anthony Arrigo. She is survived by her loving husband who adored her, R. Kevin Adamek; five loving children, Dylan Adamek, Kelsey (Dustin Mitsch) Golden, Keyern (Chanelle) Adamek, Colin (Emily Laubham) Adamek and Kerrianne (Stephen Johns) Adamek; two brothers, Philip (Sandy) Arrigo and David (Theresa) Arrigo; a sister-in-law, Barbara Arrigo; several nieces and nephews. Angie will be remembered by her family and friends as being radiantly beautiful, inside and out. She was a light in dark places - always helping others and lending an ear to listen. She loved to play tennis and was an excellent competitor on the court, but when she was at home, she was being followed around by the family pets - Josey, Chester, and the late Maggie, who went on walks with her before jumping up on the couch to snuggle. Angie was an incredible cook and everyone enjoyed her amazing meals. She was known for leaving post-it notes with smiley faces, hearts, and little reminders around the house or tucked into suitcases. MARIO LAWRENCE PALMIRO TOLLIS Mario Lawrence Palmiro Tollis, having been born in Pacentro, Italy, on March 29, 1920, passed away at the age of 100 on May 3, 2020. Mario was preceded in death by his parents, Carlo Albert Tollis and Teresa Anna Tollis; his sister, Angela; and brothers, Carl, Floyd and Lawrence. Having moved around several times, Mario came to settle for the majority of his life in Coraopolis, PA. Before entering the Army and then after being discharged, he took part-time and evening courses at the Carnegie Institute of Technology and De Sellem School of Building Trades, successfully acquiring diplomas in both brick laying and masonry. Mario served with the 1st Infantry Division ("The Big Red One") in the United States Army during WWII and was first trained as a light truck driver. He finished his military occupational specialty as a cook operating in the field range preparing food for troops as well as supervising over other cooks. His unit traveled through Algeria-French Morocco, Ardennes, Central Europe, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Sicily and Tunisia, earning him the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with eight bronze stars and his Good Conduct Medal. He was a skilled Marksman on the 30 cal. rifle. Mario was also fluent in Italian and aided as an interpreter during his time overseas. After being Honorably Discharged as a Technician Fifth Grade from the Army, he returned to the USA and worked for such construction companies as Anthony Linguanti & Company Inc., Cimador & Company Masonry Contractors, Iacono Construction Company Inc., John H. Eisele Company Inc., and the Tummolo Mason Company Inc. in the states of CO, NJ, and NY, as well as his hometown of Coraopolis, PA. Mario, along with his father Carlo, contributed to many of the buildings and brick roads still standing and being used in Coraopolis. Mario held memberships in various organizations such as the American Legion, International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, ISDA (Italian Sons & Daughters), The Loyal Order of the Moose, VFW Post 402 (Life Member) and was a generous contributor to Father Flanagan's Boys Home, Paralyzed Veterans of America, Society of the 1st Division, St. Joseph's Indian School, St. Labre School and the VFW. Mario, since the early 70's, had been a member of the Lilydale Assembly in NY. He enjoyed taking early summer trips there before living in NY permanently in his later years. His friendly personality, as well as his love for good conversation, got him the nickname of "The Mayor of Lilydale" as he was cherished and loved by all in that community. Mario had also volunteered his time at the local Presbyterian Church passing out lunches and helping in the kitchen. Having no children of his own, Mario is survived by several nephews, nieces, great and great-great-nephews and nieces. Of his immediate family are David Tollis, Larry Tollis, Linda Tollis Marion Earnest (Tollis) and Michael Tollis. Mario is now enjoying the company of those he had missed dearly while watching down upon those he loved being with so much and has now left behind, wearing a gentle smile....holding an ever replenished glass of his favorite Merlot. Family and friends will be welcomed on Friday, from 2 p.m. - 6 p.m., in the SANVITO FUNERAL HOME, 1316 Fourth Ave., Coraopolis. A prayer service will take place in the funeral home on Saturday, at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., in St. Joseph Church. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. ROBIN J. HAYMON Robin J. Haymon was born in Fairbanks, Alaska on August 6, 1986, to his loving parents, Dr. Elmer Haymon, Jr. and Dr. Darlene Haymon Currie. At a young age, Robin seemed to have a spiritual calling. He was baptized at First Baptist Church of South Richmond May 1999. On May 25, 2020, Robin answered the call from Heaven and peacefully went home to be with the Lord. His memory and legacy will be cherished by his proud parents, Elmer Haymon and Brewel and Darlene Currie; his maternal grandmother, Evelyn T. Robinson; his loving and devoted sister, Akilah Lynn Haymon; and his adoring nephews, Jason Jafari Haymon and Caleb Eugene Haymon. MICHAEL EDWARD HURSEN Age 37, of Shaler Twp., suddenly, on Tuesday, June 2, 2020. Beloved son of Edward (Michelle) Hursen and Kim Muenz; dear brother of Brittany (Jeff) Turko and the late Adam Patrick Hursen; cherished boyfriend of Kristen Haffley; devoted uncle of Ayla, Evelyn, Darren and Elliot; also many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He also had a genuine love for animals, football, especially the Steelers, and spending time with his family. Michael will be deeply remembered for his strong work ethic and always giving 100% to every endeavor he took on.
