PENROD CRYSTAL W. (WRIGHT) Age 74, of Turtle Creek, on Saturday, November 7, 2015. Crystal had "blessings all over the place" as the beloved wife of the late Arthur "Gene" Penrod for 18 years; loving mother of Michael Jacobus of Georgia and Anne (Jack) Smith of North Carolina; endearing grandmother to Marlaina, Miranda and Melissa; and step-grandmother to Erin, Amy and Chad; and great- grandmother to four beautiful great-grandchldren; cherished sister of Giles E. Wright, Sr. and his wife, Debbie of Morgantown, WV; and aunt to Giles E. Wright, Jr. and Bethany Wright; admired daughter of the late Ernest R. and Marion (Cook) Wright. Crystal was a professional organist who learned how to play the organ under the world renowned organist, Homer Wickline. She played the organ at numerous churches, including Hillcrest Presbyterian Church of Monroeville, Alpha Lutheran Church of Turtle Creek, Calvary Lutheran Church of Wilkinsburg and Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church. In the late 1960s Crystal was a medical secretary at Shadyside Hospital and was the first medical secretary to the first cardiac catheterization lab in Pittsburgh. Later she worked at Columbia Hospital. After a few years, she decided to become a professional organist and teach private organ, piano and voice. Crystal also was a teacher for the former Monroeville Music Center. Friends welcome on Saturday, November 14, 2015, from 12:00 noon to 2:30 p.m. at PATRICK T. Beloved wife for 33 years to the late John Matyuf; loving mother of Dr. Ruth Ann Matyuf Esaias (John) and the late David John Matyuf (Nancy and husband Craig); devoted grandmother of Kayla Rogers Klein (Joel), Margaret Houghton (Michael) and David Esaias; adoring great- grandmother to Robert "Robbie" Everett Klein; caring sister of Helen Kundrat, Sophie Pcsolyar and the late Paul Demay; also survived by many nieces, nephews and great- nieces and great-nephews. NOWAK FRANK ROSS Frank Ross Nowak, of Felton, DE (recently of New Florence, PA) passed away suddenly on October 13, 2015. Son of the late Otto Nowak and Virginia Mollica Nowak, of McKees Rocks. Survived by his wife, Patricia (Kelley) Nowak; three children, Mary Chromack (Emmett) of Imperial, Virginia Nowak and Frank Nowak of Felton, DE; sister, Mary Nowak Taggart (Darrell) and their daughter, Courtney, of Bethel Park; and many cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends. Frank served in the US Army from 1967 to 1970 and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1976. He retired in 2002 as Director, SWORD, Office Of Naval Intelligence in Washington, D.C., after 25-year career within the US Dept. of Defense. Frank will be interred with full Military Honors on November 20, 2015, at 2:30 p.m. in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville, PA. ALEX WILLIAM H. Age 85, of Kennedy Twp., passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 12, 2015. Survived by his wife, Verna, the love of his life for over 61 years. Loving father of David (Andrea) Alex, Lisa (Terrance) Love, Lorrie (David) Spencer and Leslie (Robert) Leise; dear “pap pap” of Lacey and Taylor Love, Emily, Amanda and Kyle Spencer and Martha and Alexandra Leise. He served in the Navy on the USS Coral Sea. He retired from United Air Lines in 1991 after 37 years of service. He enjoyed spending Monday nights with his tennis buddies for over 30 years. He also enjoyed golfing with family and friends. He was talented at playing many musical instruments, especially the banjo and ukulele. He acted as a conductor of his grandkids' parades. During his retirement, he and Verna enjoyed spending winters as “snowbirds” in New Smyrna Beach, FL. His gentle soul will be greatly missed. DiFATTA A. JEAN During the early morning hours of Friday, November 13, 2015, Jean left our world. While a devoted wife of Charles, mother, sister, relative and a close friend of many, she was known for her stalwartness, generosity and gregariousness within her beloved Oakmont community. She was best known as the proprietor of Jean's of Oakmont, a focal point within the community for women's fashion for almost 40 years, which helped a number of young women explore retailing and business under her encouragement. She was an extremely hard working businesswomen, incredible retailer, community activist, accomplished cook, tap dancer and opera lover. She also encouraged women's participation within the community and was a faithful companion to her two Brittany Spaniels, Pepe I and Pepe II. As a member of the chamber of commerce Jean spearheaded the launch of community events such as the Oakmont Boulevard Sale and the Christmas Parade, as well as the celebration of the first reopening of the Hulton Bridge in the 1960s. After retirement, she was often seen sitting at the front of her house greeting passers by, shopping within the local area and entertaining her friends and relatives whom she loved so dearly. Jean is survived by her son, Chas; daughter-in-law, Sandy; and sister, Mary Jane Kelly. Jean will be missed by many and sadly, Allegheny River Boulevard in Oakmont will not be the same. PERNISEK HAROLD “H.P.” PHILLIP On Nov. 12, 2015, Harold passed away peacefully at Concordia of Cranberry Assisted Living, Mars, PA, with family present. Harold was 88 years old. Harold was born in Finleyville, Pennsylvania on January 24, 1927, the youngest of ten brothers and sisters, to Matthew, Sr. and Ursula Pernisek. Harold was a WWII Army veteran, a Staff Sergeant with the 304th Signal Operations Battalion. Harold was a Peters Township High School graduate, and a graduate of the American Institute of Banking. A long career in banking followed at Western Pennsylvania National Bank (WPNB), Equibank, Integra, and National City. Harold was well respected within the banking community and ended his nearly 40-year banking career as a Senior Vice President. A short period of consulting work for The Johnstown Savings Bank continued for a couple of years before he finally retired for good to enjoy time with family and friends. Harold was a lifelong member of SNPJ Lodge 665 in Pittsburgh, and Saint Mary's Church in Glenshaw. Harold was an amazing musician. While stationed in Japan, he entertained on the radio in Tokyo with Charlie Walker & The Texas Ramblers. Harold also entertained the Troops onboard one of the ships stationed there. Harold was an accordionist and was a member of the Larry Niles Band. He played in The Streamliners Band with his brother, Bill Pernisek, on the drums. He played with the Jack Tady Band. Harold was fond of Slovenian Polkas, and played with the Pittsburgh Slovenian Octet. Harold performed as a strolling musician at many parties and events throughout the Pittsburgh area. He also just enjoyed playing for family and friends at their summer home at the SNPJ Campsite in Enon Valley, PA. Harold was fortunate enough to enjoy years of traveling after his retirement with his beloved wife, Libby. Harold and Libby always looked forward to spending winter in Delray Beach, Florida with Walt and Liz Abramovich, Libby's sister and her husband. They traveled to the west coast, and always loved stopping in Las Vegas. Harold and Libby were on numerouS cruises to Mexico and the Caribbean. They were most excited about going to Slovenia to see the town that Harold's family was from. That trip was an amazing experience to see the culture and beauty of the Slovenian people and countryside. Harold was preceded in death by parents, Matthew, Sr. and Ursula Pernisek; brothers, Bill, Matthew and Albert; sisters, Pauline, Anita, Bertha, Stella, Tillie, and Sally. Harold is survived by his wife of 60 years, Libby Karam Pernisek; son, Gary Pernisek (Jennie); daughter, Evon Kowalczyk (Dennis); six grandchildren, Matthew Kowalczyk, Michael Kowalczyk (Tiffanie), Mark Kowalczyk, Stefan Pernisek, Brandon Pernisek, and Jonathan Pernisek.
