GREY EMILY BENEDICT HALVERSON Died in her Sherwood Oaks home, Cranberry Township, PA on May 18, 2016. Born in Troy, New York, 1913, Mrs. Grey was formerly a resident of Galway, Ballston Spa and Saratoga Springs, New York. She was a graduate of Connecticut College and received a Master's Degree in Library Science from State University of New York at Albany. She retired from loyal service to the New York State Regional Library System. An avid nature lover and dedicated volunteer, Mrs. Grey also enjoyed needlepoint, painting, gardening, genealogy, paper-weight collecting and travel. Mrs. Grey descended as daughter of Harold Willoughby Benedict and his wife, Deborah Jane (Hughes) and granddaughter of Capt. Le Grand Benedict and his wife, Emma Frances (Gardner), reputed inspiration for Chef Ranhofer's famous Eggs a' la Benedict. Preceded in death by her husbands, Alfred W. Halverson and Theodore H. Grey; her sons, Lee Benedict Halverson and Roger Conrad Halverson, and her daughter-in-law, Patricia McGaughey Halverson; she is survived by three grandchildren, Robert Goodwyn Rhett Halverson and his wife, Lynne, Emily Benedict Gascoyne and her husband, Peter, and Trygve Lee Halverson and his wife, Kristin; five great-grandchildren, Jessica Grzymkowski Harrell and her husband, Peter, Joshua Andrew Grzymkowski, Lee Benedict Jones, Jake Rhett Halverson, and Jesse Squires Halverson; and by four great-great-grandchildren. Interment will be in the Benedict family plot, Oakwood Cemetery, Troy, NY. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Nature Conservancy, Sherwood Oaks, or a charity of choice.
