MEHARRA DR . ERNEST WILLIAM Formerly of Pennsylvania, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2019, at his home in McKinney, Texas. He was the youngest of four children born to Michael Meharra and Irene (Kaslo) Meharra in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. Dr. Meharra was a graduate of Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, and was awarded his dental degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He served his country proudly for 21 years in the United States Navy and retired as a Captain. Dr. Meharra received the Navy Achievement Medal with a "V" for his service in Vietnam with the Marine Corps, the Navy Commendation Medal and nine other service ribbons. Dr. Meharra married Eileen Irene Kunf on May 26, 1980, in Cleveland, Ohio. He practiced dentistry for 37 years in Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania, and upon his retirement Dr. Meharra joined his children and their families in Texas. His great interest in the American Civil War led him to become a reenactor at historic sites. Later, Dr. Meharra presented Civil War programs to interested civic groups in the Pittsburgh area and at his Masonic Lodge. He fully enjoyed his retirement in Texas – he continued his love of learning by attending courses at a local college; spent countless days at his grandchildren's soccer games, football games, band concerts, graduations, and playing with his newest baby grandson, Bryce. Bill embraced his move to Texas and having his family all together. He is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Eileen Meharra of McKinney, Texas; daughters, Lynda (Mike) Willingham of Prosper, Texas, and Kristen Marie Meharra of Wichita Falls, Texas; son, Philip William Meharra of Addison, Texas; grandsons, Michael Hollen Willingham, Ryan Philip Willingham and Bryce Philip Tucker; sister, Eileen Meharra Bishop; brother, Michael Meharra and many nieces and nephews. Dr. Meharra was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Irene Meharra; and sister, Marion Meharra Filotei. Visitation will be held at WOLFE MEMORIAL, LLC, 3604 Greensburg Pike, Pittsburgh, PA 15221 on Sunday, January 13, 2019, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 14, 2019, 10 a.m. at St. Maurice Catholic Church, 2001 Ardmore Boulevard, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15221. BUECHELE GEORGINE MARIE "MITZI" Age 73, of The Villages, Florida, formerly of Greensburg, Pennsylvania died Sunday, December 23, 2018, at Florida Hospital Waterman. She was born April 18, 1945, in the Pittsburgh area to Andrew Nixon and Rose Vucinovich Nixon and was raised in Clairton. She received her Bachelor's degree from Millersville College in 1967 and her Masters in Education from Utah State University. Mitzi worked as a reading teacher at Bethel Park Middle School for 37 years and at Westmoreland Community College after retiring from teaching. Mitzi was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Mitzi was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Gregory Michael "Mike" Buechele. She is survived by her son, Greg Buechele, his wife, Ashley, and their daughters, Cosette, Tess and Vivienne of New York; sister, Mary Ann Achorn and her husband, George; sister, Katheryn George and her husband, Albert; brother, Andrew Nixon and his wife, Patricia; and numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Pittsburgh, PA on September 29, 1923 to the late Elizabeth Dutko Elias and Andrew Elias. Beloved wife of the late Robert Orchowski and the late Joseph Lemanski; beloved mother of Marilyn (Richard) Bisiada of Ross Township, Phyllis (Gordon) Hensley of San Antonio, Texas, and Robert (Rose) Orchowski of Upper St. Clair; loving grandmother of Kelly Logan, Charlene Bisiada, Neil Orchowski, Lindsay Orchowski Scott, Tyler Orchowski, and Kathryn Weeks; also survived by seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews; loving sister of Margaret (Sam) Parinella, James (Sandy) Elias, Richard (Joyce) Elias, Vincent (Judy) Elias and Joseph (Kathy) Elias; preceded in death by her siblings, Elizabeth, Irene, Theresa, Veronica, Rose, Ann, Regina, Barbara, Frank, Andrew, and Daniel. MILLER BETTE W. Bette W. Miller was an artist. She was one of only a couple dozen artists juried into Artists at Work, a new concept gallery, based on the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, VA, in a renovated warehouse on Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA, in 1979. In 1981, she co-founded and directed Artists in Action with three female artists on Carson Street, Southside. She was a drawing instructor at CCAC, 1979-1991; the sculpture chair for the Three Rivers Arts Festival, 1980-1984; the director of the ?rst annual Art Room exhibit at South Hills Village, 1985; chair for the “Point to Port” exhibition, University of Pittsburgh Gallery, 1989; and a faculty member of South Arts, Upper St. Clair, 1986-1990. Bette was a past member of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Center for the Arts Pittsburgh Society of Artists and Naples Art Association. Born Mary Elizabeth in 1925, Bette died in July 2018. She was the daughter of Frances and William Daley; stepdaughter of Lee Carse; sister of Dr. Mildred Pagelow and William Daley, all deceased, and Bernadette Lucci of CA.   Married to Henry Weinbrenner for 36 years and widowed in 1979, she supported herself through her art. She was pro?cient in charcoal, acrylics and oils; she also enjoyed calligraphy, spray painting, water colors and mixed-media. She was an avid reader and pro?cient gardener. Bette studied at Seton Hill College and Carnegie Tech, now universities; the University of Pittsburgh; and in California, Florida, New York, France and Germany. She was awarded a fellowship to study painting in Lucca, Italy. She exhibited at the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh; Westmoreland Museum of Art, Greensburg; Butler Institute of American Art, Youngstown, OH; Studio Z, Pittsburgh; the University Club, Pitt; Allegheny County Courthouse; Velar Gallery, CMU; Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, Pittsburgh Society of Artists, North Hills Artists' and Craftsmen's Open; and the Heinz Endowment Galleries. She demonstrated her craft at Three Rivers Arts festivals as well as sold her paintings.   Her paintings took awards at the von Liebig Art Center, Naples, Fl.; the Visual Art Center, Punta Gorda, Fl.; Bondstreet Gallery, Naples and Pittsburgh; Concept Art Gallery and Borelli-Edwards Art Gallery, both in Pittsburgh; North Hills Art Center; and the former Bird in the Hand Gallery, Sewickley. Her works are in private collections around the country and abroad and in corporate collections at Highmark, Cranberry Township Municipality and Minutello's Restaurant, formerly Mt. Lebanon. She left an un?nished painting at the time of her death, a re?ection of the First Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh in the windows of PPG Place. A History of Bradford Woods, 1993, includes one of her illustrations. Survived by her husband of almost 27 years, Donald A. Miller of Naples, FL, formerly the Art and Architecture Critic for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and freelance critic for 15 years for the Naples Daily News; her children and their spouses, Alice, Eric, Cindy, Rick, Rob and George; grandchildren and spouses, Christina, Derek, Kelly, Jason, Annie, Brian, Stacy and Tyler; great- grandchildren, Collin, Brianna, Kaylee, Brandon, Elliott and Katie; and several nephews and a niece and their families. Donald felt that in many ways Bette was a perfect partner for him because she never interfered with his work and they had many happy times in the house that they loved, watching her family grow and prosper. A private memorial service was held at Chartiers Cemetery. Placing her remains there was the perfect way to reach her descendants: Donald said it was a joint decision. She was beloved wife of Melvin Kessler and the late William Anderson also of Imperial. She was the mother of Maureen Anderson Yadlosky (John) and Stepmother to Melvin Kessler (Linda) and Janet Muggar (Ed). Loving Grandmother to Jonathan (Eileen) and Lauren; loving GiGi to Michael (Danielle), Matthew (Marielle), Paula (Jason); beloved Great GiGi to Ryann, Charlize, and Macenzie. She was an avid dog lover and will be missed by her beloved Maggie. She was a 1951 graduate of West Allegheny High School and worked for many years as a bookkeeper in the Carnegie area. CANNEY HELEN (PETROFF) Age 86, of Leetsdale, PA, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2019. Born November 9, 1932, in Midland, PA, she was a daughter of the late Susan and Elia Petroff. While attending Midland High School, she was crowned Midland Football Queen during her senior year. She worked full time and attended evening classes at the University of Pittsburgh for many years before receiving her B.S. on October 3, 1959. Helen married the love of her life, Jerry Canney, at Heinz Chapel. They went on to have their two sons, Kevin, a pilot for American Airlines, and Terry, an air traf?c controller. Being very active in politics, she was instrumental in establishing the Quaker Valley Democratic of?ce and later ran for State Representative 28th Legislative District. She was also the pioneer of establishing the soccer program in Sewickley with the help of Leo Moss, and organized and coached the boys and girls. They even traveled to Washington, DC for a tournament. Helen spent many years selling real estate in the Pittsburgh area. She was an avid gardener and maintained a beautiful rock garden, which she worked on every day. Having a love for her birds, she maintained many bird houses throughout the yard. She had a certi?ed wildlife habitat in her yard with a beautiful plaque. The primary joy in Helen's life was her grandchildren. They each traveled to many wonderful places with her. Left to mourn her passing is her loving husband of 59 years, Jerry Canney; two sons, Kevin (Michele) and Terry (Debbie); three grandchildren, who she loved dearly, Emily, Michael and Sydni Canney; two sisters, Irene and Catherine; a brother, Joseph (Mamie); many nieces and nephews and their families; and so many wonderful friends. GALLAHER ALMA J. Peacefully on Saturday, January 12, 2019, Alma J. "AJ," age 95, of Crafton Heights. Daughter of the late Ephraim Z Gallaher, minister, and the late Margaret J. Gallaher. Beloved aunt of James Gosney of Houston, TX and John Gosney of Bridgeport, OH; great-aunt of Laura Brown of Pittsburgh, Chris Brown of Dublin, OH, Jeff Gosney of Katy, TX and Allison Gosney of Falls Church, VA; and cousin of Martha Robertson Whitehouse and Norma Robertson Schlosser. Friends received at the HERSHBERGER- STOVER INC.
