BERGER ROBERT "BOB" McBRIDE Age 96, passed away quietly in Hilton Head, SC on December 8, 2018. He was born in Philadelphia, PA, on February 11, 1922, son of the late Oliver and Merle McBride Berger. Bob grew up in Wilkinsburg, PA and later in Chicago, IL, where he graduated from Fenger High School in 1940. He attended Wilson Junior College prior to joining the Army Signal Corp, where he participated in the D-Day invasion at Normandy Beach. In 2016, he joined his fellow veterans in Washington D.C. to be honored for his service. Bob received his Bachelor's degree in Engineering from Michigan State University in 1948 and was a lifelong member of the MSU Alumni Association and Delta Chi Fraternity. Bob moved back to Chicago, IL in 1949, where he began his career with the Peoples Gas Light and Coke Company. Bob met the love of his life, Kathryn (Kaye) Elizabeth Lamley, in Chicago, and they were married on May 22, 1953, in Bliss?eld, MI. Bob took a job with Kaiser Aluminum and they moved to Arlington Heights, IL and later to Brook?eld, WI in 1955 before settling in Ann Arbor, MI in 1962 to raise their four children. Bob worked his way up the corporate ladder in the Detroit area as President of Indian Head Corporation's Detroit Gasket and Metals and Automotive Divisions. He graduated in 1971 from the Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Program with classmate Jim Lovell. Bob and Kaye moved in 1984 to Hilton Head, SC where they built their dream home on the 18th fairway of Dolphin Head Golf Course. He is survived by two sons, Reed Berger of Daytona Beach, FL, Bruce Berger of Hilton Head, SC; two daughters, Robin Hagopian of Hilton Head, SC, Anne Katz of Newbury Park, CA; eleven grandchildren; and nine great- grandchildren. Bob will rest next to Kaye at the First Presbyterian Church on Hilton Head Island. A private gathering for immediate family will be held to honor and celebrate one of the best from America's Greatest Generation and patriarch of the Berger and McBride families. CALDWELL ROBERT Age 85, of Lake Knoll Court, Granger, Indiana, passed away at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, following a lengthy battle with cancer, surrounded by those he loved. He was born on July 8, 1933 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to William and Elizabeth (Davis) Caldwell, who both preceded him in death. He married Patricia O'Mahony in Pittsburgh, and she survives along with his four children, Stephanie (Michael) Arrigo, Robert Caldwell, Ronald Caldwell, and Deborah (Dennis) Hanna; his 13 grandchildren and three great- grandchildren brought him an enormous amount of joy. Mr. Caldwell had a long career as an estimator for Auburn Associates, Dravo and Dick Corporation and as a Designer for John Hobart Miller Inc. where he designed some of the most beautiful homes in Pittsburgh until his retirement in 2017. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Nothing made Bob happier than watching his grandchildren, either on the ?eld or on a stage, except for maybe watching the Pittsburgh Steelers win. DAMRATOWSKI LEONARD Age 94, died December 13, 2018. Leonard was born September 15, 1924, in Pittsburgh. He was the son of the late Peter and Lottie (Kohinski) Damratowski. He was brother of the late Charlotte Glabicki, the late Paul Damratowski, and Irene Pankowski. He was beloved husband of the late Eileen (Albright) Damratowski for 50 years. He is survived by his daughters, Kathleen (Joe) Planavsky, Colleen (Bob) Squires, Eileen (Scott) Krebs, and Charlene (Paul) Caracciolo; 11 grandchildren, Jennifer (Barry) Mitchell, Brian (Lisa) Planavsky, Rachel (Adam) Heusey, Stacy (Rick) Johns, Kristin Squires, Evan Squires, Kelsey (Christopher) Hanlon, Krista Krebs, Matthew (Lindsey) Krebs, Erica and Megan Caracciolo; and five great- grandchildren. Len enjoyed a very successful academic and professional life and took pride in his accomplishments. In his younger days, he was a model airplane enthusiast, placing highly in competitions in multiple states. As a 3rd year high school student at Central Catholic, he was offered a job at the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics in Langley, Virginia to build models of future Army and Navy planes for wind tunnel testing. He requested to begin on 3rd shift so that he could work while ?nishing his high school degree. He loved what he was doing and excelled. He was quickly promoted to crew chief, where he served as a supervisor despite being less senior than most of his team members. Len was called to active duty by the Air Corps Reserve, and trained for B-29 duty in Denver, Colorado. He was ordered to Panama as chief statistician for the 16th Air Force unit, where he completed his duty and was discharged in November, 1946. Upon arriving home, he was accepted to Carnegie Technical Institute in mechanical and aeronautical engineering. He graduated in 1950, and accepted a position as a mechanical engineer at Elliott Company in Jeannette, PA. He rapidly assumed responsibility for all new products for the company, and was responsible for the company's entrance to the gas turbine industry. He was granted multiple US patents for his work with turbines. He retired in 1984 to spend time with and care for his wife. Len always enjoyed being active, and completed a daily exercise regimen until a few weeks prior to his death. He enjoyed gardening and played tennis into his 80s. He was very faithful, crediting God for all of his blessings and accomplishments. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a long term, active member of St. Bernadette Church in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. He served as Worship Committee Chairman, Eucharistic Minister, Usher and Greeter in the parish and could always be heard singing loud and clear from his seat at Saturday night mass. His wife Eileen was the love of his life, and he continually professed his love for her even after her death in 2001. He missed her greatly and always advised his grandchildren to look for the type of love that they shared. He loved to talk about her and felt that she was his greatest blessing in life. Len was a family man, and he would tell anyone who would listen how proud he was of his four daughters. He enjoyed playing with his grandchildren as they grew, and always took interest in their activities, providing love and guidance along the way. Born January 4, 1936 in Sewickley, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Argol and Birtrice (Cain) Worrell. Pam was a graduate of West Allegheny and Indiana State College. She was a Sigma Kappa. Pam was a member of the Hebron Presbyterian Church. Pam was a reservations supervisor for Northwest Airlines and also worked in reservations for Trans World Airlines. She taught second grade at Margaret Ross Elementary School and Independence Elementary School in the Hopewell School District for 29 years until her retirement in 1997. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Jeffrey and Debra Jean King of Mercer; her grandson, Matthew Emir King of Fairfax, Virginia; and three sisters, Nila McCullough (Amevor) of Ohio, Dixie Schmella of Clinton, and Wendy Worrell of Allegheny Valley School in Coraopolis; also surviving are nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Kenneth King, on August 5, 2012. GALIOTO FRANK P. Age 80, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Born to the late Frank and Mary Balestrieri Galioto. Frank is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jo Weir Galioto; and son, John (Andrea) Galioto. He was preceded in death by his son, Frank (surviving Melanie) Galioto. Frank is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Alyssa and Frank Galioto and Lauren and Anna Galioto; his siblings, Ann Galioto (Tony, deceased) Renda of Tamarac, Florida, Tom (Jean) Galioto of St. Augustine, Florida, Catherine (Sal) Marino of Lexington, Kentucky, Angelo Galioto of Pittsburgh; and was preceded in death by his sister, Rose Galioto (Carmen, deceased) Gemus. Frank was the son-in-law of the late John and Gertrude Weir; and brother-in-law of the late Tom (surviving Kathy) Weir and John (Eleanor) Weir. He is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Frank was born and lived his entire life in Pittsburgh, PA. He graduated from Washington Trade School. He served in the United States Navy from 1960-1965 and was on the USS Lake Champlain, during its time as the recovery ship for the ?rst manned space missions. Frank worked at Bacharach Industrial Instrument Company for 43 years until his retirement. There he met his wife, Mary Jo. They enjoyed 51 beautiful years of marriage. Frank was a warm and loving person, who never met a stranger. A devout Catholic, Frank faithfully attended Mass at St. Stanislaus and St. Joseph. His biggest passion was his family. Frank's children and siblings will miss his daily (or more frequent) telephone calls when he was known to talk about his favorite foods and sports teams.
