OSMUNDSEN DAVID MARK AGE 68,...

OSMUNDSEN DAVID MARK Age 68, of Winter Garden, Florida, quietly departed this life surrounded by his family on October 10, 2018, after a long, hard fought battle with uveal melanoma. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on October 12, 1949, to Dorothy and Norman, David was the ?rst (and favorite) of the six Osmundsen children. The family later moved to Bloomington, Indiana, where David stayed through high school. He spent much of his childhood pining to be a cowboy and chasing adventures, which proved useful as he became involved with the Boy Scouts at a young age and proudly became an Eagle Scout after years of work. His achievements were admirable and numerous. As a self-proclaimed lifelong learner, he began by graduating with a bachelor's degree from George Washington University and later obtained a master's degree of Informatics from Indiana University. As an adult, he followed in his father's footsteps and became a freemason. He began his multi-decade career in the armed forces as a Marine. He later joined the Navy as a corpsman and deep sea diver. While in the Navy, he proudly served his country in the Gulf War. After retiring as lieutenant commander, he spent the remainder of his career rotating between being a civilian and government contractor at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Crane, Indiana until his retirement. After “retiring”, he relocated to Florida and pursued a part-time job at Walt Disney World with their security department. He also volunteered with various chapters of the Boy Scouts of America as he relocated. He was never one to sit by and live idly. Perhaps the proudest title and achievement of his lifetime was that of dad to his two daughters, Sarah and Aimee. Not one to back away from a challenge, he raised his girls as a single father for a majority of their childhoods. He sacri?ced his spare time and any type of social life for thirteen years to give them opportunities and catapult them into their adult lives as kind, successful, well-adjusted women. The close relationship he kept with both girls until his death was a testament to his parenting skills, unending devotion, and unconditional love. He later became just as cherished becoming “g-daddy” to his two precious granddaughters. He was a lifelong Indianapolis 500 fan and fast-car enthusiast. He spent much of his retirement reading and watching favorite shows, such as “Game of Thrones.” He loved many different genres of music and shared them as much as he could. David was preceded in death by his father; and brother, Richard; as well as many adored family pets. He left behind his mother; two daughters, Sarah Osmundsen and Aimee Lamb (Carl Paul IV); granddaughters, Kennedy and Madison Lamb; special friend, Fabiola; brother, Robert; sisters, Karen Sue Robischon (Greg), Elsa Tre?l (Bill), Lisa Osmundsen (Robert Harris); as well as a plethora of nieces, and nephews. A private service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D. C. at a later date. Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
