LIPTAK ANTONETTE B. "TONI" Age 93 of Jefferson Hills, passed away Friday, September 7, 2018. Born December 4, 1924 in McKeesport, she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Anna (Norris) Viscus. A former window decorator at McCory's Department Store and member of St. Isaac Jogues Roman Catholic Church in Elrama, Toni was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew M. Liptak, who died December 2, 2008, and her siblings, Paul Tautkus and Dolores Baker. She is survived by her sons, Robert (Beth) Liptak of Mt. Vernon and James (Cathy) Liptak of Jefferson Hills; her grandchildren, Chris (Natalie) Liptak, Allison (Dan) Shusteric, Christie (Ian) Houston, Theresa (Tyler) Boyer, and Jamie Liptak; her great-grandchildren, Maddox, Mason, Aubrey, Harper, Landon, Brody, Nathan, and Laney; her sister, Aldona Antonelli; and also nieces and nephews. DIANA JEANNE (BRIDGETTS), DR. Age 95, of Mount Lebanon, formerly of Richmond, VA, on Tuesday, September 4, 2018. Beloved wife for 60 years of the late Dr. Lewis Diana; devoted mother of Dr. Paul Diana of Mt. Lebanon and Dr. Mark (Sharon) Diana of New Orleans; loving grandmother of Phillip, Lauren, Bridget, Matthew, Bryan and Krystyn and great-grandmother of Danté, Arielle, Lillyana and Elijah; sister of the late Charles Thomas of Petersburg, Virginia. Jeanne was born in Brooklyn, New York and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She worked for the Department of the Navy during World War II. Jeanne went on to obtain her Ph.D. from University of Pittsburgh and worked there as a Social Worker. From there she went on to be a professor of Social Work at Virginia Tech and Virginia Commonwealth University. Jeanne enjoyed politics and was a passionate member of the League of Women Voters. She was an avid reader and was an opera fanatic, especially for Pavarotti. Jeanne was an accomplished master gardener and enjoyed painting. She was a kind and caring woman who had a wonderful ability to connect with people from all walks of life. She will be deeply missed by her many friends and her loving family. TOLUSCIAK RITA (HOMISON) Age 78, of Springdale, went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 7, 2018. She was born in Lawrenceville on January 17, 1940, to her parents, the late Stephen and Anna Krusalak Homison, and has been a longtime resident of the community. Rita was a member of St. Alphonsus Church in Springdale and was a cashier at Giant Eagle for many years before retiring. She was an avid QVC shopper and enjoyed drinking a cold beer. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and greatgrandsons. CONROY SR. MARY COLEMAN, OSF On Saturday, September 8, 2018. Sister of John Conroy, Mark Conroy, Joseph Conroy, Agnes Fedor, Annamarie Bangert and the late Coleman Conroy, Frances Hurley, Margaret Gaertner, Veronica Conroy and Teresa Geever; daughter of the late Mark and Margaret Conroy. Sister Mary Coleman entered the Sisters of St. Francis in Millvale on February 2, 1948. For 28 years, she taught in various parochial elementary schools and 22 years in secondary schools throughout Pittsburgh, Johnstown and Puerto Rico. During her tenure as a teacher at Lawrenceville Catholic High School in the 1970's, Sister Coleman along with Sister Veronica Marie Phillips spent a summer conducting a census of the area. They discovered a critical need for affordable senior housing. In collaboration with Father Paul Kuppe, OFM Cap., then Auxiliary Bishop of Pittsburgh, Most Rev. Anthony G. Bosco and businessmen Frank and Edward Schneider, the founded Christian Housing, Inc. In 1989, Sister Coleman received the No. 2 Police Citizen Council Award in recognition for personal involvement, unselfish dedication and sincere commitment to combat crime in the community. During her life, Sister Coleman collaborated with pastors and city officials in securing federal money in order to provide affordable housing for thousands of senior adults. As she continued to advocate for senior housing, Sister Coleman also served on the leadership team for the Sisters of St. Francis in Millvale. Sister Coleman will be remembered as a Franciscan woman of unlimited generosity who was compelled to serve the needs of many. She did not shy away from challenges in her quest to provide dignity to the elderly. She saw what was needed and simply found a way to be a true instrument of peace for all people. Son of the late Kelly and Margaret (Violi) Tannous; Michael was the beloved husband of Maureen Corcoran Tannous for 45 years; proud father of Michael Tannous (Sarah) of New York City, Megan McCarthy (Daniel), Mara Tannous and James Stokes of Florida; and devoted grandfather to Kelly and Scarlet McCarthy; he is survived by brothers, Thomas Tannous (Claudia) of Sherman, Texas, and Teddy Hazlett (Georgenne); and was preceded in death by sister, Beverly Norman. A graduate of Penn State, Michael retired from the Pittsburgh City School System after 32 years of meritorious service. As an accomplished raconteur, he provided hours of laughter and banter. Michael's generosity touched everyone who met him. He was an avid fan and vociferous critic of every Pittsburgh sports team. "Uncle Nitty" will be watching his golf buddies from his celestial golf course. He will be greatly missed by everyone who loved and met him, but his spirit will remain. SCHEID JEAN M. Born 93 years ago, died peacefully Friday, Sept. 7, 2018 at Presbyterian Senior Care, with her youngest daughter at her side. Jean was the beloved wife of the late surgeon, Dr. John (Jack) Scheid. She was born and raised in Duquesne, PA, to the late EJ and "Mid" Schorr. There, she attended Duquesne High School and St Joseph's Church. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1946, a psychology major and a TriDeIt. She met her husband, "Jack" Scheid of Brackenridge, PA., when he was an intern, married him in 1947, and lived with him in Philadelphia, Cleveland, New York and Johnson City, TN before settling back into the Allegheny Valley to begin his surgical practice in 1954. He died in 1989. Jean was a stay-at-home mother who was devoted to her three children and her husband's career, and was active in the Allegheny Valley community. For 20 years, she was a member of the Allegheny Valley Hospital auxiliary, serving terms as president and chairwoman of many committees, and working for 45 years in the hospital gift shop. She also served on the People's Library board in Lower Burrell for 20 years. She was a fabulous dancer and taught our father how to dance on their first date at Kennywood. She was a keen bridge player, an avid reader, and an active member of the Tarentum Book Club for many years. She enjoyed standards and musical theatre. She is remembered as always having music on when her kids came home from school. Jean supported many greater Pittsburgh cultural institutions: Phipps Conservatory, the Frick, The Pittsburgh Symphony, CLO and Heinz History Center. Jean had exquisite taste and style, good manners and an exacting sense of propriety and individual and family responsibility. She was a letter writer par excellence and all of her children and grandchildren have examples of her epistolary dedication. She traveled extensively with her children and grandchildren and was present for most of her grandchildren's life events. She lived independently for 46 years in the Lower Burrell home she built with her husband. At age 89, her children, Jennifer, Jeff and Laurie all took part in her care, with Laurie moving back home to be her main caregiver At age 91, she moved into Westminster Place of Presbyterian Senior Care in Oakmont, PA. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by both of her siblings, Elmer (Bud) Schorr and Lois Schorr Finley; she is survived by her children, Jennifer (Sandy) Williams, Jeff (Holly) Scheid, Laurie Scheid; seven grandchildren, Molly Williams Pugh (Bill), Nicholas Williams (Kate), Owen Williams (Gracen), Evan Scheid, Jon Scheid, Emmalee Scheid and Rhiannon Kirshner; plus three great-grandchildren, Meredith and Alwen Pugh and Uma Williams; she is also survived by six nieces and nephews; and one brother-in-law. The family would like to thank Presbyterian Home, Heartland Hospice, and the caregivers of Care At Home, especially Star McNalley. BURNS DAVID C. Age 84 of Level Green, passed away in his home on Saturday, September 8, 2018. Dave was born on September 12, 1933 in Boardman, OH the son of the late Clarence and Mildred (Jenkins) Burns. Dave was a veteran of the US Army serving as a Sharp Shooter during the Korean War. He was a member of the Christian Life Church in Trafford, a Born Again Christian man who dedicated his entire life to God and his family. He enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling. Dave was a Mechanical Engineer and Senior Design Engineer earning seven patents from Westinghouse Nuclear and two patents at West Valley Demonstration. Dave is survived by his wife, Florence Regina (Vallance) Burns; his children, David Burns (Christina) of Monroeville, Michelle BurnsLibell (Michael) of Trafford and Duane Burns (Andrea) of Scottdale; his grandchildren, Desiree' Alba, Danielle Burns, Alexander Libell, Andrew Burns, Samantha Bagley, Jessica Libell and Mason Burns; 14 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Thomas R. HOFRICHTER ROBERT WILLIAM "HARPO", JR. Age 62, of Bridgeville, on September 9, 2018. Cherished father of Mae and Alan Hofrichter; beloved son of the late Robert W. and Marie (Vieceli) Hofrichter, Sr.; loving brother of Lori Emery and the late Wayne Hofrichter. Harpo was part owner of the former Limestone Products and Supply. He was a member of the Cuddy VFW and Sports Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at his camp in the mountains; he loved to cut down trees, and he had a special place in his heart for his dog Ava.
