VIVRETT WILLIAM RANDOLPH III Of Bethel Park, PA, passed away on October 23, 2017. He was born July 31, 1930 in Denton, Texas. He is survived by his daughters, Kathleen V. Kallam (Jim) of Allison Park, PA, Cherie V. Burris of Aynor, SC; his grandchildren, Wendy C. Phifer and William J. Phifer. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Harriet Reese Vivrett; his sister, Elizabeth Lu Vivrett of Pittsburgh; and his parents, William R. Vivrett and Waldine S. Stockton also of Pittsburgh. Mr. Vivrett received his education in the School of Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh, and began his career with Bethlehem Steel Corporation. He then spent nine years with Adams Fabricated Steel in Washington, DC. He served as Executive Vice President of Colonial Steel Corporation in Salisbury, NC. He taught seminars at Purdue University, Rice University, Spring Garden State, Long Beach State, and others, regarding production methods outlined in technical papers he wrote and were published by the Metal Fabricating Institute. He completed his career as Vice President of Queensboro Steel Corporation in Wilmington, NC, where he was also an instructor at Cape Fear Community College. He was a member of North Lake Presbyterian Church of Lady Lake, Florida, and was a past member of the Lion's and Elk's Clubs. SHEAFFER JOHN L. “JACK” John L. "Jack" Sheaffer, age 72, passed away at his home in Jefferson Hills, PA on Wednesday, October 25, 2017. He was born June 3, 1945 in Pittsburgh, PA to John Henry and Louise "Lou" Sheaffer. Jack found a love of cars and planes along with his talent to repair them at an early age. He first put his talents to use repairing airplanes and later focused his skill set on automobile repair. His love of fixing cars led him to open his own business, "Sheaffer Auto Repair" and later "Sheaffer and Lewis Auto Repair." He used his expertise to help numerous residents of the neighborhood with their car maintenance and repair needs for many years. His good nature and caring qualities made him a well recognized mechanic and contributing business owner of the community. Jack also used his creative talent in his wood craft hobby making beautiful furniture and unique pieces. He also enjoyed going to the shooting range to socialize with friends at the Clairton Sportsmans Club and Library Sportsmans Assoc. where he was a member of the shooting team. He was a longstanding member of the Masons. Jack adored his wife, Renee, whom he married in May of 1997. He truly treasured his children, family and friends. He was a fun loving jokester who enjoyed making others laugh and putting a smile on their face. His fun loving spirit will be missed, but always remembered. Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Renee; sons, Jeffrey and Keith; stepdaughter, Tamara (Daniel) DiBartola; loving grand-puppies, Sam, Katie, and Autumn; sister, Barbara (Wayne) Eckert; brother, Craig (Sherri) Sheaffer; loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, and many long time friends. CROZIER JAMES ALLEN, MD James Allen Crozier, MD, 68, of Brighton Twp. passed into the arms of his Lord and Savior Thursday, October 19, 2017, at home surrounded by his loving family following a long and hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer. Born January 16, 1949, in Rochester, he was a son of David J. Crozier, Sr. and the late Marjorie Helsing Crozier. A Rochester High School graduate, Jim continued onto Geneva College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry. His pursuit of a medical degree took him to Hahnemann School of Medicine and University of Pittsburgh's Magee Women's Hospital where as a clinical assistant, he performed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Crozier delivered over 10,000 babies at Heritage Valley, formerly the Medical Center, Beaver and Ellwood City Hospital, and served as the Medical Center Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology from 1989 through 1991. During Dr. Crozier's 40-year career, he became known as an excellent surgeon and brilliant diagnostician. This reputation brought him back to Magee as a resident mentor, where as a professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences, he shared his four decades of practical experience and knowledge with his medical students. An effective and beloved educator, he was recognized as Teacher of the Year by his residents at Magee. Friends and colleagues will fondly remember Jim as a conscientious businessman with a strong will, quick wit, keen intelligence, and unparalleled love of family. He will be missed by all. In addition to his father David, Jim is survived by his best friend and devoted wife of 41 years, Victoria O'Connor Crozier; his son, James Allen Crozier, Jr.; his daughter, Kiersten O'Connor (Matthew) Leonard; his cherished grandson, Jameson Garrett Leonard; one brother, David Jack (Connie) Crozier, Jr.; a sister, Christina (Mark) Chervenick; two brothers- in-law, Tom (Jane) Peluso and Trevor (Jill) Peluso; and his nieces, nephew, grandniece and grandnephews who will always remember him as loving, funny, and crazy Uncle Jim. As per Jim's request, there will be no visitation. OPAR PETER M. Age 94, formerly of Upper St. Clair, a loving husband and proud father, died after a short illness on Monday, October 23, 2017. Born in Jeannette, PA, Pete attended aviation school in Western Pennsylvania. In 1944, he was hired by All-American Aviation as an airplane mechanic. He was proud to be one of the original “AM 49'ers” when the company began passenger service in 1949. Decades later, the airline evolved into US Airways. Pete loved going to work during his 42 years of service, before retiring in 1986. During his retirement, he discovered his passion for golf after joining the St. Louise de Marillac golf league. He loved his weekly golf road trips to western Pennsylvania courses with his golf buddies, usually ending up at the “Yugo Club” to share in fellowship with his signature Pepsi. You could always find him at 11:00 a.m. mass, serving as an usher for many years since joining the parish in 1965. Pete is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jean; children, Peter, Jr. (Janet), Pam (Charlie), Kathy (Joe), Mark (Patty), Cindy (Bob); twelve grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Pierce; his parents, Julia and Nicholas Opar; and seven siblings, John, Mary, Michael, Demetrius, Catherine, Julia and Ann. PEMENT FREDRIC W. Suddenly on October 17, 2017. Predeceased by his parents and one brother; he is survived by his wife, Mary Louise Zak Pement. He was born in 1933, in Chicago and graduated from Forest Park High School in Baltimore, MD. He received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Northeastern University in Boston and received his Ph.D in Physical and Nuclear Chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh. He first worked at the U.S. Naval Nuclear program at Bettis, PA and later went to work with Westinghouse Electric Corporations, first in their Research and Development Division, then to their Nuclear Energy Systems. His field was alloy selection and testing as well as metallurgical investigation for nuclear power plants. He presented papers, gave lectures, and attended conferences worldwide referencing his specialty. His many papers and articles comprise part of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation's records at the Heinz History Center. Fred was a delightful and witty raconteur of jokes, incidents and, especially, of the foibles of his fellow engineers and scientists. He and his wife, Mary Lou, were avid devotees of bluegrass music. They were regular attendees at most of the major bluegrass music festivals for many years and felt privileged to have met many of the great legends of the genre especially Bill Monroe and Ray Acuff. Locally, the Pements always occupied the front table at Walsh's, the legendary spot here in Pittsburgh to hear bluegrass music. Mac Martin and the Dixie Travelers were the house band. Bill Colleran, leader of Mac Martin and the Dixie Travelers, was among Fred's closest friends and the band even recorded two of their albums in the Pement's living room. Fred maintained a lively intellectual curiosity and fierce independence until the end, leaving this world quickly with a cigarette between his fingers! BODNAR JOHN M. Age 105, formerly of Duquesne, died peacefully Thursday, October 19, 2017, in Southwestern Veterans Hospital, Pittsburgh. Mr. Bodnar was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, Duquesne, a retired self-employed Tavern owner, a proud U.S. Army veteran of WWII, and a former member of the G.B.U. Duquesne. Born December 29, 1911, in Duquesne, he was the son of the late Michael and Anna Suhoza Bodnar and the beloved husband of the late Anna Holko Bodnar and the late Anna Hornyak Bodnar. He was also preceded in death by a son, John M. Bodnar, Jr., and seven siblings: Andrew, William, Nicholas, Michael, Joseph Bodnar, Ann Drotar, and Margaret Liszka. ADAMS WILLIAM REX (BILL) Age 91, passed away at home on October 26, 2017. Bill, born August 12, 1926, was the son of the late Thomas Rex Adams and Sadie Mathers; and husband of the late Marion Adams. He is survived by his son, Michael (Barbara); his granddaughters, Bridget (Ryan) Tipton, Cynthia (Eric) Appelbaum and Patricia Adams; his sister, Vida Potter; his stepsister, Gene McMonagle; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; his infant daughter, Patricia Adams; and his stepsister, Millie O'Hara. The Adams family is incredibly appreciative of the support received from the West and Rattay families and our dear friend, Karen Hart. Bill was a plank owner on DDR 881 Bordelon in the Navy and a longtime employee of the Bell Telephone Company. But his true passion was for volunteerism. He served as a Cub Scouts leader, a CCD teacher, an usher for St. Athanasius and volunteer for organizations such as Knights of Columbus, Talking Books and Bell Pioneers. In retirement, Bill and Marion enjoyed traveling to Navy reunions, cruise destinations, delivering Meals on Wheels, and watching his granddaughters grow up.
