KATRIN HELEN Age 93, died August 28, 2017, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was born in Yukon, PA 1924 to John and Helena Repnik. She married WWII veteran Alfred Katrin in 1945. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Repnik, sisters, Mary Skrabski and Frances Barr. She was the mother of five children, Helen (late Darrel) Collom, Mary Ann (late Terrence) Browne, Frank (Sylbia), William (late Antoinette), and Robert (late Janet); seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Helen was a resident of South Oakland since her marriage in 1945. She worked in food service at Magee Women's Hospital. She also ran the bingo at the Oakland Community Center for many years. She enjoyed walking in Schenley Park and playing with her pug, Caesar. She enjoyed international travel with her sister, Fran, visiting many countries in Europe. She was a longtime member of Bellefield Presbyterian Church in Oakland. Funeral arrangements are with JOHN N. MERRITT JOSEPH MICHAEL March 12, 1953-August 23, 2017. Joe Merritt died unexpectedly on August 23, 2017, while running before work a regular, routine exercise. He will be remembered as a proud father, loyal brother, enthusiastic home improvement person, a wonderful friend to many at work and in his community, and a compassionate health care professional. Joe was born in Pittsburgh, PA, the third child of Arch and Helene Merritt. As a youngster he enjoyed sports and was active in baseball and basketball. He remained physically active all his life playing soccer and running in adulthood. He played semi-pro soccer for several teams after graduating from college. Joe enjoyed coaching youth sports and mentoring youth teams. Joe attended the University of Kentucky graduating in 1974 with a BA in Communications. He spent 22 years working in the retail industry starting as a management trainee. Joe ended his retail career as a men's buyer at Beall's Department store in Bradenton, FL, where he met his beloved wife, Susanna (Perrin) Merritt. In 1992, Joe returned to college to study physical therapy, but soon switched to the Physician's Assistant program at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA where he earned a Master's degree. He returned to Florida in 1995 where he worked at BayCare Pediatric Primary Care. In 1996, he married Susanna (Perrin) Merritt and they settled in Tampa, FL. January 1997 brought the birth of Andrew, their only child. Susanna died in 2010 after a valiant fight against ovarian cancer. In 2009 Joe joined BayCare Pediatric Surgery. He worked as a clinical instructor for the Physician Assistant program at Nova Southeastern University. He was an area representative of the Florida Academy of Physician Assistants, as well as an Advanced Care Practitioner Representative for the quality control board of WellCare Insurance. He was a member of both his national and state Academies of Physician Assistants. Joe volunteered countless hours at the Hyde Park United Methodist Church. Joe enjoyed a good tale and could often be found in a group by looking for the laughter; he would be smiling and enjoying the amusement of others in his latest story. Joe is survived by his son, Andrew; seven brothers and sisters; eight nieces and nephews; and six grandnieces and grandnephews; Susanna's mother, Sue (Hunter) Perrin; Susanna's two brothers; and four nieces and nephews. A service celebrating Joe's life will be held at Hyde Park United Methodist Church, 500 W. MUSSELMAN KIRK FREDERICK, M.D. DOC Age 60, of Murrysville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, August 27, 2017. He was born November 17, 1956, in Norristown, PA, son of Shirley (Tinkler) Musselman of Norristown and the late Truxton (Pete) Musselman. He was a graduate of Norristown High School (1974), Houghton College (1978), and Hahnemann University School of Medicine (1982). He completed residency training at Robert Packer Hospital (1985) and a Cardiology/ Interventional Cardiology fellowship at UPMC (1988). Dr. Musselman was a respected, dedicated, and selfless Cardiologist in the western PA area. He was a member of the Christian Medical and Dental Association and the Murrysville Alliance Church. He served on several mission trips to Haiti, Guatemala, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic and was a free clinic volunteer for Sheep, Inc. Health Care Center at the Monroeville Assembly of God. He most enjoyed playing the saxophone on Sundays in the orchestra at church, playing softball/baseball, and spending time with his family. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 35 years, Joan (Buchmann) Musselman; six children, Allison (Dan) Kepple, Brittany (Tim) Rabe, Cherice (Steve) Schroeder, Larissa (Aaron) Wattenphul, Kirk James (Angela Pratt) Musselman and Victoria Musselman. He was Pap-Pap to Brandon and Savannah Kepple and Elizabeth and (expected baby boy) Schroeder. He is survived by two sisters, Cynthia (Michael) Brandon and Holly Davis; seven nieces and nephews and several aunts and cousins. He is also survived by honorary daughters, Soo-Yeon Park and Sophonie Jean. Kirk was a man of integrity, gospel-focused, family oriented, and well loved by patients, family, and friends. FISCHIONE HELEN J. Age 94, a longtime resident of Moon Township, passed away Aug. 26, 2017, at West Hills Health and Rehabilitation, Moon. She was born May 3, 1923, in Youngstown, Ohio, the youngest of seven children of Pietro and Concetta Marchetti, Italian immigrants from Roccaraso, Abruzzo, Italy. She was a National Honor Society graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Youngstown, and was working when she met the love of her life, Bernard J. Fischione of Pittsburgh, whom she married July 19, 1948. The couple shared 62 happy years of married life, most of those in Moon Township, where they moved in 1961. Helen was a longtime teller at the former Western Pennsylvania National Bank, later Equibank, in Moon. She also worked as a mail teller at the former Mellon Bank, Downtown; at the library of what is now Robert Morris University, Moon; and at the former Joe Weider Fitness Center in Moon. She was a member of the St. Margaret Mary Women's Guild and Christian Mothers and helped with the church funeral luncheons. In addition, she was a wonderful mother and a marvelous cook and baker, preparing delicious homemade Italian and American dishes such as manicotti, spaghetti, pizza, apple pie, biscotti and pizzelles. Helen also did beautiful needlework, and was never happier than when she had a baby on her lap. She was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away on July 20, 2010; her parents; and her siblings: brothers, Mike (Anibale), Raymond, Joseph and Louis Marchetti; and sisters, Mary Mooney and Phyllis (Philomena) Filipcic. She is survived by her children, Sandra Fischione Donovan (Dan) of Moon and James Fischione (girlfriend Vickie Somers) of New Wilmington. Also surviving are her beloved grandchildren, Daniel Donovan (Lynda) of Potomac Falls, VA, Elena Donovan Mauer (Anthony) of Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY, and Neil Donovan, Moon. She is also survived by her treasured great-grandchildren, Ryan Mauer, Maeve Donovan, Ian Donovan and Dylan Mauer; and by many dear nieces and nephews. He was a graduate of Northwestern University School of Business in Chicago, IL. William was a WWII Army veteran, having served in the infantry of the 12th Armored Division, Helltracks. Prior to retiring, he owned a drygoods store, then went on to become an insurance broker. Later, he was the owner of a currency exchange in Chicago. At 90 years of age, William and Betty relocated to Murrysville. In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 79 years, Betty C. Elizabeth (Davis) Spier. William will be greatly missed by his loving family. She was the grandmother of Michelle Hughes (Nate), Carly Jo Cannon (Stephen), Kathryn Hutchison, Sarah Hutchison; and great-grandmother of Landon Hughes. Odessa was an active member in her community. She was a volunteer for Family Hospice for over three decades and was involved in their annual golf benefit since its beginning 30 years ago. She was a long-standing member of Sunset Hills Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon, elder, Sunday school teacher, Steven Ministry member and helped with the Rebuilding Pittsburgh Together campaign for many years. She was an avid bridge player, dedicated bowler and committed bingo player for over 50 years and enjoyed working in the yard and fishing with her husband on the pontoon boat. She was a craft enthusiast, excellent seamstress, a Cub Scout den mother, PTO elementary officer, Township Women's League founder, Steelers fan and enjoyed eating chocolate.
