HLUTKOWSKY PETER G. (PETRO) Peter G. (Petro) Hlutkowsky was born in the village of Hlynsk, Ukraine on a blustery day, March 3, 1927. He is the beloved husband of 61 years of Luba (Baran) Hlutkowsky; the beloved father of Sonya Soutus (Rev. Anibal) and Roman Hlutkowsky (Patricia Telliho); and the beloved grandfather of Romana Soutus and Christina and Oriana Hlutkowsky. A Ukrainian patriot, Peter suffered the loss of his arm in the struggle for Ukraine's freedom during WWII. Following the war Peter could not return to his homeland and began his studies at the University of Graz in Austria. After immigrating to the United States in 1951, Peter attended the University of Pittsburgh and graduated with a BS in business in 1955. While at Pitt, Peter was a member the university's soccer team. He went on to get his master's degree in business from Duquesne University. Peter was a devout member of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and belonged initially to St. John the Baptist Church on the South Side and later to Holy Trinity in Carnegie. He helped to found the Diocesan Resource Committee of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Eparchy of St. Josaphat. Active in the Pittsburgh Ukrainian community throughout his life, Peter also helped to found The Ukrainian Technological Society and the Selfreliance Credit Union. He greatly supported the efforts of his wife, Luba who founded the Poltava Ukrainian Dance Company and is one of the founders of Ridna Shkola of Pittsburgh. Peter was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, godfather and friend. He overcame tremendous adversity in his life and was grateful to return to Ukraine after it's independence. Peter will be deeply missed by his family and friends. SUTARA JOSEPH F. Of Sarver, age 68, passed away on August 18, 2017 in his home. He was born on February 15, 1949, and grew up in Fawn Township. Joe attended grade school at St. Clement Catholic School in Tarentum and graduated from Tarentum High School in 1967. He resided in Buffalo Township for 40 years, and was a parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cabot. He received a degree in Civil Engineering from Penn State. He proudly worked as a District 11 Project Manager for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Joe was responsible for the inspection of large construction projects in and around the city of Pittsburgh, such as the Squirrel Hill and Liberty Tunnel rehabilitations and the Route 28 expansion. He retired at the age of 56 and then worked as a consultant for Penn Dot. He had a love of nature and the outdoors including hunting, fishing, going to camp with friends, and bird watching. Some of his best memories were made when fishing with his friends and family members for northern pike and walleye in Ontario and Quebec, Canada. His most fond hunting memory occurred when he harvested a deer, bear, and turkey in the same year, earning a Pennsylvania Triple Trophy. Joe loved spending time with his grandchildren, was an excellent cook, and an avid Steelers fan. Joe was an accomplished and avid gardener. He was famous for his heirloom tomatoes and loved to share his abundant harvests with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph; his mother, Anne (Strelec); as well as grandparents; and several aunts and uncles of both the Sutara and Strelec families. He is survived by his three children, Joe (Amy) Sutara of Sarver, Dave Sutara of Sarver, and Jessica (Sean) Foster of Highland Park; and his grandchildren, Brianna, Olivia, Ryan and Ella Sutara of Sarver; his brothers and sisters, Mary Ann (Dave) Harding of South Buffalo Twp., Tom (Debbie) Sutara of Fawn Twp., Jerry (Darlene) Sutara of Fawn Twp., Jim (Sherry) Sutara of Titusville, and Dan (late Albina) Sutara of Sarver; and numerous nieces and nephews. Wayne was a lifelong resident of the South Hills and leaves behind his loving wife of 45 years, Jonilee (Augenstein) Matragas; his wonderful children, Matt (Lisa) Matragas, Tiffany Matragas, Alexa (Matt) Donoghue, and Ty (Zara) Matragas; adoring grandfather of Luca Wayne, Lui Giuseppe, Troy Jonathan, and Graham Jameson; devoted son of the late Ruth and John Matragas; brother of the late Dave (survived by Betty) Matragas, son-in-law of Joyce Augenstein; also survived by other in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins. JONES ADA On June 9, 2017, Ada Jones, age 94, was peacefully called from The Gardens at Campbelltown Home in Campbelltown, PA to play the organ for Our Father's Heavenly Choir. Born in 1922 in Carnegie, PA, she was the daughter of the late Mike and Mary Marraccini. Ada was a graduate of Clairton High School and Carnegie Institute of Technology. She would tell us that it was not Carnegie Mellon. Ada taught music at Clairton High School and became the organist and choir director at the First Presbyterian Church in Clairton where she enjoyed leading the music for over 40 years. She also held ad hoc positions at the church as janitor, spokesperson, security guard, handyman, grounds keeper, and unflagging champion. Ada was the loving wife of Evan Jones for over 50 years. They raised four obedient and nearly perfect children, Marsha, Mike, Bronwyn, and David. Ada is survived by her four children and their spouses, Andrew Major (Marsha), Marty (Mike), Charles Ponciroli (Bronwyn) and Lisa (David); 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Mary Jane Travis. Ada was preceded in death by her sister, Thelma Wood. Ada loved being with her family, especially extended family gatherings. She also enjoyed rooting on her Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers, and Stanley Cup Campion Penguins. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. MATTA STEPHEN ROBERT, Jr. “STEVE” Steve, age 75, of Monroe, GA, formerly of McDonald, PA died August 11, 2017, in Georgia. He was born July 30, 1942, in McKeesport, PA a son of the late Stephen and Genevieve (Pastor) Matta. Mr. Matta was a 1960 graduate of Glassport High School and acquired degrees from Pennsylvania State University ('62), California State University of PA ('70) and Point Park University ('84). He worked as a mechanical engineer from 1962 until his 2010 retirement. Steve enjoyed woodworking, hunting, working on cars, motocross and most of all, Italian food. On April 18, 1969, he married Rachael Caldwell Matta, who survives; also surviving are his oldest son, Daniel (Kimberly) Matta; and granddaughters, Ashlynne, Alexandra and Audrie. He was preceded in death by his parents; and youngest son, Eric Stephen Matta. Friends will be received on Saturday, August 26, 2017, 1-4 p.m. at THOMAS-LITTLE FUNERAL SERVICE, INC., 314 W.
