CECIL JARVIS BURDETTE JERRY Passed away peacefully on Friday, November 4, 2016, age 91. Kathleen Cecil, his wife of 30 years, was by his side. Jerry is also survived by his children, Ann Brouillette (Don), John Cecil (Celia Felsher) and Scott Cecil (Eleanor Pansar); his grandchildren, Sarah, Erin and Suzanne Brouillette and Rachel and Teddy Cecil; and his sister, Marjorie Burgess. His brother, John Cecil, predeceased Jerry. Jerry was born in Wichita, Kansas, on September 22, 1925, to Kenneth and Mildred Lewis Cecil. He moved with his family to Knoxville, Illinois, as a young boy. After graduating from Knoxville High School, Jerry entered Knox College, in Galesburg, Illinois, in 1943. In the winter of 1944, he joined the Army Air Force, serving as a Lieutenant navigator. He returned to Knox College after World War II, graduating Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude in the winter of 1948. Mr. Cecil received his MBA in 1949 from Harvard Business School, where he was named a George F. Baker Scholar, the top scholastic honor. In 1949, Jerry married June Pendarvis, whom he had met in college. June Cecil died in 1974. Jerry married Kathleen Nicolette in 1986. After two years as a Research Associate at Harvard Business School, Jerry joined Continental Oil Co. (Conoco) as a staff accountant in Ponca City, Oklahoma. After transfers to Houston and Connecticut with Conoco, Jerry moved to Pittsburgh to become Executive Vice President of Consolidation Coal, a subsidiary of Conoco and later of Du Pont. He retired in 1988. Jerry had a long and distinguished record of public service. He was committed to his alma mater, Knox College. He served on the Board of Trustees from 1973 to 1998, and was Chairman for 17 years beginning in 1978. For his service, he was awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws in 1995. Jerry was also deeply interested in the environment. He was a Director and Chairman of the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, a Director and President of the Fox Chapel (Pittsburgh) Land Conservation Trust, a Director of the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, and Chair of the Fox Chapel Environmental Advisory Council. He was also a lifetime member of The Nature Conservancy. Beyond working in education and the environment, Jerry served as Director and Vice Chairman of the Pittsburgh Public Theatre, Director of the Pennsylvania State Chamber of Commerce, and member of the Fox Chapel Borough Council. He was also a longtime member of the Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church, the Pittsburgh Field Club and the Duquesne Club. Jerry's family would like to express its appreciation for the comfort and care Jerry received from Presbyterian SeniorCare and Family Hospice. TRAUTMAN DAVID A. Of New Wilmington, PA, passed away on February 18, 2017. He was born on October 8, 1932, in Coraopolis, PA to George Jacob and Anna Heinlein Trautman. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Anna Grace Kocay and Vera Mae Percy, and survived by his brother, George Warren (Helen) Trautman of South Carolina. Dave graduated from West Allegheny High School in 1950 and earned his BA from Westminster College in 1954. He married Margaret Ann Campbell in 1952. They have four children: Kenneth David Trautman (Linda Jones), Diane (John) Phillips, Karen (James) Gay, and Joy (David) Fisher. They have 11 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Dave worked for over 40 years as a salesman and office manager at various steel companies: Youngstown Sheet and Tube, Wheeling - Pittsburgh, Olsher Metals and Reynolds Services. From birth to 1985, Dave was an active member of Montours Presbyterian Church in Oakdale, PA. He served as an elder, Clerk of Session, on many committees, and as a choir member. They moved to New Wilmington in 1985 where David continued as an active member of New Wilmington Presbyterian Church. Dave was always willing to use his skills to help others. He supervised the building of 25 houses with Habitat for Humanity, went on nine mission trips to the Dominican Republic and traveled on numerous trips with Presbyterian Disaster Relief after Hurricane Katrina to clean up and rebuild. Dave loved planning, planting and nurturing God's creation. He especially loved all the colors and varieties of dahlias, his raspberry patch and the wisteria that covered his deck. Everyone who met Dave was blessed to enjoy his easy smile and witty sense of humor. Mr. Stein proudly served with the United States Army Signal Corps during World War II where he served in the battle of Guadalcanal and was a member of the American Legion Post 760. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed for many years as a salesman with the Morris Paper Company. He was the last of his immediate family. He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School (1947) and the University of Pittsburgh (1952) with a BSCE. He was a registered professional engineer and surveyor in Pennsylvania. He served as an officer LT., S.G. in the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service (1955-1957). In his lifetime he worked for Gimbel Brothers, City of Pittsburgh Health Department, Allegheny Ludlum Steel Company, the Pennsylvania State University, and 33 years with the Pennsylvania American Water Company, ending his working career as Division Manager of their S.W. Division. He was also Resident General Manager of the Washington-East Washington PA Joint Authority (1972-1989). In 1994, he received the George Warren Fuller Award from the American Waterworks Association for his outstanding work as a professional in the waterworks industry. He was active with the Boy Scout Troops 228 and 834 serving as committeeman and merit badge counselor. He was past president of the former University Catholic Club and past chairman of the Pennsylvania Section of the American Waterworks Association. He enjoyed spending time at Deer Valley YMCA Camp and Conneaut Lake with family and friends. He was a wonderful role model, teacher and family man.
