BELZ JAMES C. On Tuesday, January 24, Jim, aged 85, passed away after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Marie Belz, and his sister, Margaret Schott. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 51 years, Carolyn, three children, Jimmy, Mark (LoriLee), and Kristen Ornato (Eugene), and four grandchildren, Kathleen and Christopher Belz, Ellen and Gino Ornato. He is also survived by his brother, Paul G. Belz (Kate). Jim joined the Navy in 1950 shortly after graduation from North Catholic High School. He served in the Korean war on the destroyer, U.S.S. Boyd. After discharge in 1954 he enrolled at Carnegie Tech and graduated with a BSEE. Jim was a talented electrical engineer. He retired from Westinghouse and enjoyed a variety of volunteer activities including Goodwill Industries Annual Book Sale, mentoring students with disabilities at the University of Pittsburgh, and helping senior citizens with income tax preparation through AARP. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 4, 2017, at CHARLES W. TRENZ FUNERAL HOME, INC., 11110 Frankstown Road, Penn Hills. PARKER ROBERT M. AGE 90, A CRA...
PARKER ROBERT M. Age 90, a Crafton resident for most of his life, on Wednesday, February 1, 2017. Bob was born in Mt. Washington on August 13, 1926, and was proud to have been a Pittsburgher. He devoted his entire 44 year career to both local public transit and the public transit industry. Bob began his long and distinguished career in 1943, first working as a traffic checker with the Pittsburgh Railways Company. In late 1943, his transit career was diverted by World War II when, at age 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. His two and a half years of service included extensive duty throughout the Pacific Theater with participation in both the invasion of Iwo Jima with the 5th Marine Division (1945) and in the occupation of Japan at Sasebo, Kyushu (1945-1946). After serving his country proudly as a U.S. Marine, Bob returned to the Operations Division of the Pittsburgh Railways Company, the largest of 33 private transit firms that were consolidated in 1964 to form the Port Authority Transit of Allegheny County (PAT). He advanced through various positions at PAT until, in 1976, he attained the top operations position as the agency's Director of Transit Operations. Bob retired from PAT in 1987 being honored both locally and nationally for his extensive contributions to public transit. He was a former chairman of the American Public Transportation Association's Operations Committee and was a member of the Administrative Board of the Bus Association of PA. He also served on the Board of the Western Pennsylvania Safety Council. Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Miriam (a World War II Navy veteran,) who passed in 2015. Loving father of Linda Parker, Sue (Colin) Meneely, Ron Parker and Bob Parker; dear Grandpap of Jennifer (Jeff) Broniszewski, Kimberly Wiesner, Colin (Kristen) Meneely, Chandler, Tressa and Preston Parker. Bob is also survived by five great- grandchildren, Alec, Taylor and Jesse Broniszewski and Connor and Kyle Meneely. Bob was the solid foundation for his entire family and will be missed more than words could ever say. A special thank you to Dr. Philbin and his assistant, Amy, for their caring support over the years. SHTUR MICHAEL, Jr. Michael Shtur, Jr., 86, of Penn Township, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on Wednesday, February 1, 2017. He was born on February 25, 1930, in Pittsburgh, to the late Michael and Veronica (Hetra) Shtur. Mike held the rank of 1st Lieutenant in the USAF and proudly served in Korea as a B26 Navigator/Bombardier. He also served as the Entertainment Officer while based in Japan. Mike was funny, loved music and will be remembered for always telling a good story. He enjoyed speaking publicly and was former president of the Toastmasters Club in Pittsburgh and a class president of Oliver High school, class of '48. Mike worked professionally in the photography business and leaves his family with a lifetime of photographs and memories. Mike is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, June M. PRYBOCK JOHN A. Age 81, of Penn Hills, succumbed to cancer on February 1, 2017, while being surrounded by loved ones whom he selflessly supported without fail. John was born May 26, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York to Ruby and James Przybocki and moved to Verona where he attended school and excelled in athletics. He served as a Marine and upon earning an honorable discharge worked for the U.S. Post Office as a letter carrier for 39 years. His work ethic, highlighted by him simultaneously working part-time at Oakmont Country Club (OCC), was only matched by his love and dedication as a husband, father, and grandfather. He never missed a school play or Little League game, personifying devotion to family and a limitless love. Even on the first night of his chemotherapy he mustered the strength to attend an awards banquet for his daughter. John continued to work at OCC following his retirement from the post office while spending time with family and enjoying his tomato garden. His kindness, care, and generosity have touched countless lives, served as a role model to which to aspire, and will continue to live on with his wife, Marilyn; his three children, Frank Prybock (Cheryl), Barbara Calfe (Victor), and David Prybock (Karin); as well as his seven grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren. Mike, a graduate of and football team member for North Catholic High School, proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War where he was trained as a Combat Engineer and Code Radio Operator. Mike worked for Alcoa's Engineering Division and various Pittsburgh structural engineering firms before retiring from Eichleay Engineering in 1998. He personally built the family's Shaler residence in 1962 where they still live today, and proudly graduated his four children from Shaler High School and Penn State University. His very active 20 years in retirement were spent touring the US and Canada on his Harley Davidson and Corvette with Millie in tow; cruising and traveling the world on marvelous vacations, wintering at their beach home in Ocean Ridge, FL; organizing North Catholic reunion events; and watching thousands of sporting events and other activities of his beloved superstar grandkids. Mike always believed he was blessed with a special life. A consummate family man and nicest guy ever, with a joyful spirit, great sense of humor and ability to befriend everyone he met, he will be greatly missed by his family and friends. She held a wide variety of research, counseling, education, and clinical positions including research subject advocate within the University of Pittsburgh and affiliated hospitals. Most recently she was a regulatory compliance officer at UPMC working with clinicians and legal experts to ensure compliance with federal law. Jane is survived by her brother, John (Carol) Alexander, Redwood City, CA; two nephews, Steven Barrett, Rochester, NY and Tim Barrett, Lima, NY.
