BLANKENSHIP LYDIA (SUNUKJIAN) Longtime resident of Carnegie, passed away on January 4, 2017, at St. Clair Hospital following several years of continuous, loving care by her beloved husband, Bill. Born in Troy, NY on June 17, 1938, to the late Peter and Alice Sunukjian, she graduated from Troy High School and attended Albany Business College. Many of Lydia's happiest memories were of her teenage summers spent as a lifeguard and giving water safety lessons to campers of the Methodist Farm summer community on Crooked Lake in Averill Park, NY. In 1960, she married William P. Blankenship, an engineer with Westinghouse Electric Corporation, and moved to Pittsburgh. There, she enjoyed a long professional career as a senior secretary with IBM Corporation, and made many lifelong friends. An avid bridge player, she also was active in the Red Hat Society (Red Hatters) and the Carnegie Lifespan Senior Center. Lydia is survived by her husband, William, of 56 years; sister, Joan Bramfitt (Bruce); brother, John Sunukjian (Margie); brothers-in-law, Dr. David Blankenship (Cathy) and James Blankenship (Jane). She was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews and their families. Family and friends are welcome on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE, (412-563-2800), 1650 Greentree Road, Scott Twp., PA 15220, and at a memorial service there on Wednesday 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Armenian Missionary Association or to the local Food Bank of one's choice. FLINN RICHARD D., Esq. On Wednesday afternoon, January 4, 2017, age 93, of Scott Twp., at Concordia of Franklin Park. Born in Pittsburgh, PA on March 28, 1923, he was the son of the late Charles Edward and Florence Hughey Flinn. Richard was a graduate of the College and School of Law of the University of Pittsburgh. He had been the Vice President of the Trust Department of Mellon National Bank and Trust of Pittsburgh. He had served as a Sgt. in the United States Marine Corps during WWII. The family would like to thank the staff at Concordia of Franklin Park for their care and kindness and the AHN Hospice for their expertise and support. Surviving are a nephew, Richard C. Flinn and his wife, Cynthia of Mars,; a great-niece, Erica Flinn; and a great-nephew, James Flinn. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Mae Progner Flinn; by a sister, Carolyn M. BAIR JUNE (ADAMSON) and EARL Formerly of Churchill Borough, June (91) passed away on December 17, 2016, at the Benton House Memory Care Unit in Titusville, FL. Earl (94) passed away on December 20, 2016, at the VITAS Hospice Crisis Care Facility on Merritt Island, FL. Both passed away peacefully with family at their side. Both were born in Turtle Creek, PA. They would have been married for 70 years on January 25, 2017. June was a homemaker. Earl was a WW II veteran who served in the Army Air Corps from 1942-1946. He survived a plane crash while stationed in Texas while in the Air Corps. After his military service, he went on to be a locomotive engineer with the Union Railroad in Pittsburgh, retiring in 1982 after 42 years of service. They are survived by daughter, Linda (Rob) Himes of Verona; and son, Ken (Mary) of Titusville, FL. They were loving grandparents to grandson, Benjamin of Titusville and were extremely proud of him, especially when he earned his Eagle Scout rank. They are also survived by many nieces and nephews in the Western PA area. Their funeral will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Mims, FL. Interment will be at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery with military honors on Monday, January 9, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either the Hospice of St. Francis or to VITAS Hospice. GLOOR JOAN W. Age 90, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday morning, January 3, 2017. She resided at Pleasant View Retirement Community in Manheim, PA. She was surrounded by loved ones and family members in the days and hours prior to her passing. Joan lived a rich, full and adventurous life. She traveled the world with her husband, Richard, who passed before her in 2006. They lived most of their lives in Pittsburgh, PA, where they raised their three children. She worked for and retired from Bell Telephone Company. Joan had a deep love for her family and was a nurturing mother and devoted wife. She loved having family around her and enjoyed hosting wonderful get-togethers over holidays, vacations or at the slightest provocation. Her interests included dancing, playing cards, shopping, cooking and hosting tea parties. Joan was a classy lady and is fondly remembered for her gifts of selflessness, inclusiveness, and her ability to love freely. She regularly attended Zion Lutheran Church, Manheim, PA. She is loved deeply by her three children, Richard (Suzanne) Gloor, Greg (Lois) Gloor, and Carol (Brian) Piersol; five granddaughters, Kathryn (Tad) Reeves, Kelly (Ryan) Gehman, Jessica (Hank) Waldheim, Kayleen (Chris) Bassler and Laura (Rob) Burkholder; and ten-soon to be 11-great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. The family would like to thank the professional staff of Pleasant View Retirement Community and Rehab Center for the outstanding care given to Joan. DeLUCA MERLE L. Age 87, of Murrysville, died on January 2, 2017. Beloved husband of 65 years to Cathie (Duff) DeLuca; cherished father of Cyndi DeLuca (Mikel Koschmeder) and Shari Shovel; loving grandfather of Stephen and Alexis Shovel and Chase Koschmeder. He is survived by his sister, Marlene (David) Mincin and preceded in death by his brother, Sam and sisters, Mildred Corrado and Louise Bloom. A graduate of Penn Hills High School, Merle went on to graduate from the University of Pittsburgh in 1953 with a bachelor's degree in education. His real passion at Pitt was playing football for his beloved Panthers. After graduating, Merle went to work at C.M. Eichenlaub Co., leaving for a brief time in the U.S. Army, where he played football and coached the Army team at Ft. Knox. After leaving the Army, Merle returned to the C.M. Eichenlaub Co. and found his true calling in sales. There he became owner and Chairman of the Board of the company that he loved for over 60 years. Merle was a long time member and a past president of Churchill Valley Country Club and served on the Western PA Golf Association. He was also a great card player and a lover of the Jersey Shore. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on January 14, 2017, at Hebron United Presbyterian Church, 10460 Frankstown Road, Penn Hills. Memorial contributions may be made to Hebron Church. Raised with a strong sense of family, Sarah was deeply involved in her children's school and sports activities, as a volunteer and parent assistant. She also participated in fundraising activities at St. Columbkille Church in Imperial, PA, Sacred Heart Church in Clearwater, FL, as well as for the American Cancer Society. JORDAN BRIAN LEE Age 59, died December 26, 2016, in Pittsburgh, PA from cancer. Born August 2, 1957, in Charlotte, NC to Charles and Ann (Scarlett) Jordan. Graduated from Patrick Henry High School (Roanoke, VA) in 1975; from University of Virginia in 1981 with a BA in economics; and from George Mason University in 1989 with an MS in electrical engineering. Married Pamela Welsh in April 1982. Worked in Northern VA and Pittsburgh as an engineer and was awarded two patents. Retired to care for his son, Grady, and to pursue his engineering ideas. He leaves behind several boxes of work. A voracious reader, Brian loved to talk with friends and neighbors and was quick to offer help and advice. He enjoyed engaging youngsters. Grady loved Brian's elephant trumpets, crashing airplane imitations, and spending time on his lap, leading to the nickname of fully adjustable dad-omatic. A fan of movies, Brian tried his hand at writing screenplays, which Pam enjoyed reading. Brian is survived by his wife, Pam; and son, Grady of Pittsburgh, PA; mother, Ann of Maryville, TN; brother, Lyn Jordan (Susan); and sister, Mariann (Paul) Huffman of Roanoke, VA; sister-in-law, Carol Culp of Winchester, VA; six nephews, Guy and Stephen Culp, Bryan, Jordan and Hunter Huffman, Brice Reed; and one niece, Karla (Wally) Camilo.
