Sister of Esther Ronczka of Leetsdale, PA; mother of Marge Logan, the late Delon Cooper, Frances Fieser, David E. Taylor, M.D.; grandmother of David D. Hawkins, Gretchen, Nicole, and Frank Fieser, Katherine, Alex and Russell Taylor. Also survived by seven great- grandchildren; four nieces; two nephews; and many great-grandnieces and nephews. CALDWELL LUCIA (KNIGHT) Age 93, of Upper St. Clair Twp., on Friday, January 8, 2016. Wife of the late Alan O. Caldwell. She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Caldwell-Bencze; son, John C. Caldwell; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by sister, Rebecca Fredenhagen of Palatka, FL. Mrs. Caldwell came to Pittsburgh as a new bride in 1948. Noted for articulate and colorful command of the English language, detailed powers of observation and gracious entertaining skill, she made the perfect life partner for husband, Alan. The couple entertained socially in support of his self-owned business, which specialized in paper mill construction, with Mrs. Caldwell's southern charm always in evidence. Mrs. Caldwell enjoyed active membership in The Southern Club of Pittsburgh and Sunset Hills Presbyterian Church. After Mr. Caldwell died suddenly in 1978, Mrs. Caldwell vigorously pursued new interests in volunteerism at St. Clair Hospital, and in stock market investing. There will be no visitation. MOLLICA KATHLEEN “KATHY” (RENDA) Of East Oakmont, on Wednesday, January 6, 2016, after an eight year courageous PHight with PH, surrounded and held in the loving arms of her family. Born on March 25, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Jennie (Costanzo) Renda. Beloved mother of Dominic (Kristen), Anthony (Tracy), and Christopher (Julie) Mollica. Kathy was the loving NaNa of eight grandchildren, Alex, Michael, Talia, Alyssa, Samantha, Napier, Romero and Danielle; loving sister of Frank S. (Barbara) Renda and Anna Renda Schultz. Kathy was a successful and well known vocalist, entertainer, recording artist and songwriter. She performed locally, as well as in Las Vegas and abroad. A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church in Plum Borough, followed by interment in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Verona, PA. BROWN JEDNAK MARY Age 94, passed peacefully on Dec. 14, 2015. She was born on April 13, 1921, in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of the late Genevieve O'Neill Gorman and John Francis Gorman, M.D. She graduated from Chestnut Hill College and became a registered dietitian. She and Allen A. Brown, a Villanova graduate and chemical engineer, were married in 1943. They moved to Pittsburgh a few years later. Mary and Al had eight children and were very involved in their children's school and sports organizations. They also volunteered in the St. Vincent de Paul Society and were expert bridge players. Mary spent many years volunteering with the Guild for the Blind, driving the blind to their medical appointments. After their children were grown, they became weekly volunteers at a homeless shelter in Pittsburgh, where Al helped cook and serve meals and Mary sewed and mended clothes. They retired to Venice, Florida in the early 1980s and became active in the Epiphany parish ministries, including the migrant families mission. Her concern for young pregnant girls led Mary to help start the Pregnancy Care Center, where she served as president for six years. In 1998, two years after Allen's death, Mary married Theodore “Ted” Jednak, now of Ft. Myers and Melvin Village, NH. She is survived by seven of her children, Maura LeCroy and her husband, Carl, Allen Brown, Phil Brown and his wife, Peggy, Beth O'Brien and her husband, Dan, Chris Goodwin and her husband, Bryan, Greg Brown, and Patricia Gordon. Her third child, Barbara, died in 2011. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, Leigh and Steve Jones, Connor Brown, Chris Bednash, Luke and Gabe Brown, Sean, Brendan and Deborah O'Brien, Dan and Zach Goodwin, Ian Brown, Katelyn Gordon and Haley Coleman; and two great- grandchildren, Caden and Piper Goodwin. Mary was a member of the Chestnut Hill Alumnae Association, the American Assoc. of University Women, the Venice Yacht Club and Epiphany Cathedral, Venice. A Memorial Mass will be held at Epiphany Cathedral on January 15, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. EWING FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements. BLACKHURST JACK W. Age 91, of Valencia, formerly of Moon Township, a gentleman in every sense of the word, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at Heritage Valley Sewickley. He was born on April 11, 1924, in Washington, PA, he was son of the late Homer and Gertrude (Murray) Blackhurst. On March 3, 2013, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Phyllis (Fisher) Blackhurst; loving father of Wendy A. (Richard) Brabson, Retired Col. Jack L. (Andrea) Blackhurst, and the late Iris Blackhurst; cherished grandfather of Leslie (Michael) Saenz, Jeremy (Cindy) Blackhurst, Tammy (Larry) Sedley, and Ricky Brabson, Jr.; proud great- grandfather of Andrew, Alexander, Sydney, Haley, Danica and Sawyer; brother-in-law of Jackie and Bob Pfaub of Valencia; brother of the late Mildred Kramer, Grace Findlay, Geraldine Turner and John D. Blackhurst; uncle of the late Judy Madler. Jack retired in 1989 from J & L Steel (LTV Aliquippa Works) with 41 years of service. He proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Sgt. during WWII, stationed in England and France. He was a staunch member of the Coraopolis United Methodist Church and Methodist Men. He will be remembered for his kind and quiet spirit and his gentle smile. EYTH BERNARD DALE Age 96, of Collier Twp., on Thursday, January 7, 2016. Husband of Mary Louise (Anetsky) Eyth; father of Gloria J. Auth, Robert J. Eyth, Kathleen (John) Murphy, James L. (Michelle) Eyth and Janice M. (Gary) Kania; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Bernard was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. In addition to his family, Bernard had two lifelong passions: Work and dancing. He loved to work and he loved to ballroom dance with his wife, Mary of 74 years. After serving with the US Army during WW II, he returned home to work at Mesta Machine Co. for 44 years. His strong work ethic was something he passed on to all five children. After retiring, he designed and built a home on 19 acres in Carnegie for he and his wife where he loved to roam about on his tractor. STAUS DOROTHY On January 3, 2016, at the age of 83, Dorothy Staus, passed away at home in Millvale. The family was by her side. She loved to cook. Her specialties included homemade kielbasa and golumpki. After decades of raising her family, Dorothy worked at the original Woolworth five and dime in downtown Pittsburgh. She was forced to retire when Woolworth's 99 year lease ran out, closing the store. She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Staus. She is survived by her children, Joseph Staus, Diane Staus, Susan Jelinek, James Staus and Daniel Staus; and her siblings, Lou, Hank and Bernard Gorski; and several grandchildren and great- grandchildren. He was a career Army NCO (1942-1965), who honorably served his country in WWII, Korea and as an American Advisor in Vietnam and in many other military duties. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Barbara Bahorich; his brothers, Joseph, Frank, John, Edward and William; and his sisters, Angeline Veselic and Mary Slaney.
