DONALD S. BATTIST, JR. Age 92, of Allegheny Twp., died Mon., Dec. 23, 2019. Born July 23, 1927, to late Donald S. Battist, Sr. and Eleanor Villella Battist. Mr. Battist worked as a teacher for Pittsburgh, Cannonsburg and Leechburg School Districts and also worked for Pittsburgh City Playgrounds. He was a member of St. Margaret Mary Roman Catholic Church, Lower Burrell; Allegheny Twp. Lions Club; and New Kensington Musical Society. Survived by his wife of 46 years, Clara L. ELLIS W. "UNKIE" YOUNG, JR. Age 79, on Saturday, December 21, 2019, of Baldwin, formerly of Knoxville. Loving husband of 52 years to Jane (Ryan), they met when he was 9 and she was 7; brother of Pat (Ron) Gansberger; brother-in-law of Dolores Finnell and Bill (Vivian) Ryan. Also survived by 48 loving nieces and nephews. Affectionately known as Butch, he enjoyed a marriage filled with love, laughter and plenty of fishing. His interest in electronics and "communications" were put to use while proudly serving the US Army and continued throughout his years at Control Data and UPMC. He loved spending time at The Lake fishing, being out on the boat, and watching the sunset but Unkie's heart was always for his family who he helped, encouraged, and always loved. JOHN T. NAGY, SR. Age 66, of Monongahela, died Tuesday, December 23, 2019. Born May 7, 1953 in Monongahela, he was the son of the late Thomas J. Nagy, Jr. and Grace (Lauderbaugh) Nagy-Meikle. After his graduation in 1971 from Monongahela High School, John attended the Pittsburgh Technical Institute. He was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. For the past 25 years John worked as the property manager for Chattam Center in Pittsburgh and prior to that he worked as an engineer for the Dodson Co. in Pittsburgh. Surviving are his wife, Pamela (Prolenski) Nagy; two sons, J.T. Nagy, Jr. of Navarre, FL and Bradley Nagy of Monongahela; and a daughter, Cali Nagy of Monongahela; a brother, Thomas Nagy of San Antonio, TX; and a sister, Diane Ranallo of Charleroi; four grandchildren Jack, Josephine, Amelia and Waylon Nagy. HARRY J. KERR, JR. M.D. Dr. Harry J. Kerr Jr., age 96, of Crescent Twp. passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2019. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Carolyn "Jean" Kerr; children, John (Jane) Kerr, Barbara Vaught, Rebecca (Edward) Battista and James (Courtney) Kerr; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Dr. Kerr graduated from Langley High School, was a WWII Army veteran, received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh, and his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine where he specialized in internal medicine. He was in private practice in McKees Rocks and was a physician at the Veterans Administration in Pittsburgh. He was also a long-standing member of Providence Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will be held at Providence Presbyterian Church, 77 Phillips Lane, McKees Rocks, PA (Robinson Twp.) on Friday, December 27th at 1:00 p.m. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the time of services; a private interment will follow. SISTER M. DOLORITA BUTKUS, OSF A Sister of St. Francis of the Providence of God for 78 years, died at the age of 97 on December 21, 2019. Born September 11, 1922 in Elizabeth, NJ, she was preceded in death by her parents and siblings. She is survived by nieces and nephews. Sister M. Dolorita attended St. Peter & Paul School and Battin High School in Elizabeth, NJ. After entrance Sister Dolorita taught primary grades for three years before receiving her RN from St. Francis Hospital in Peoria, IL. After nursing several years at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL. She trained as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and Registered Respiratory Therapist. For the next twenty-four years she served as the Director of Respiratory Therapy at Good Samaritan Hospital. Following pastoral care studies, she was Director of Pastoral Care at St. Joseph Hospital in Alton, IL and Good Samaritan Hospital for ten years. Sister Dolorita spent a year in a hermitage before, at age 70, she asked to serve her beloved Lithuania as a missionary which she did for the next fifteen years. She helped established St. Clare Hospice for the elderly poor and created a monthly food distribution program which continues today. In 2014, due to health concerns, Sister M. Dolorita moved to Westminster Place, Presbyterian SeniorCare, Oakmont, PA, where she continued to spread God's love and offered counseling and consolation. MARY LOU RATTAY Of Pittsburgh, PA, age 68 years young, went peacefully on December 22, 2019, to be with her brother, Bill Fogle, and parents, William and Mary Fogle, among others, in heaven, after a sudden but prolonged medical battle. Mary Lou was known for her sarcasm and wit as well as her insatiable appetite for knitting. She thoroughly enjoyed life, especially spending time with her beloved husband of 47 years, David Rattay, and her children, David W. (Kristine) Rattay and Christina Ramsey. Her greatest joy though, came from her five grandchildren; her “bonus” kids, Michael Ramsey, Jr. along with Sarah and Nicole Ekmekchyan, and her “puppies”, David A. Rattay and Colten Ramsey. John was a Medic in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, a retired letter carrier for the U.S. Post Office, and enjoyed coaching for softball and baseball teams for the Arlington area. GLORIA A. PERRY Gloria A. Perry, 86, of Brentwood was called home with God on Saturday, December 21, 2019. She was the daughter of the late Anna Yuhasz whom she thanked every day for giving her life, and lovingly raised by the late Mary and Frederick Weingartz, and nurtured by her “brothers and sister,” the late Lawrence Weingartz, Frederick (Gloria) Weingartz, and M. Virginia (Herbert) Williams who taught her to love unconditionally. She was the devoted wife of 46 years to the late Francis E. Perry. She was the daughter in law to the late Vincenza Maria (Bonaccorsi) and Emanuel F. Perry. She was the sister in law to the late Anthony E. Perry, and John F. Perry. She was the adoring mother of the late Emanuel F. (Manny) Perry and the late Nancy A. Perry. She is survived by her daughter Jean Marie Perry and son, David J. Perry, her nieces, nephews, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was a devout Roman Catholic who was able to tell you the saint of the day by memory and never allowed you to leave the house without her saying a prayer for you. Although she was in constant pain and in and out of hospitals most of her life and for a long time, home bound, she was never bitter or complained and always offered her suffering to the “poor souls in purgatory”. She was the phone friend and surrogate mother to her friends and the friends of her children who often called to get a great laugh, advice or more importantly, ask for prayers. She had a very generous, loving and calming nature, an impish sense of humor and she will sorrowfully be missed here on earth by all those she touched. She also leaves behind a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Elijah Holmes and companion James Martin. Her visitation is Friday, December 27, 2019 from 4-8 p.m. and the funeral Saturday, December 28, 2019 at 10 a.m. Both will take place at St. James AME Church, 444 Lincoln Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15206. DOROTHY (HUTCHINS) FORMAN "DOTTY" Age 70, of Baldwin Borough, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 23, 2019, after a long battle with lung disease. She is survived by her beloved husband, Robert, to whom she was married for 47 years; loving mother of Peter (Maria) Forman of Finleyville and Andrew Forman of Fort Hill, PA; loving Grandma of Collin Buckwalter; sister-in-law of Donald and Jean Forman of Midlothian, VA. She is also survived by cousins, nephews and nieces. Dotty was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Dorothy Hutchins, and by her sister, Betty Hutchins, all of Hanover, NH. Raised in Hanover, NH, she graduated from Brown University and The Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI. She was a professional visual artist in Pittsburgh, PA for 40 years and a member of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Society of Artists, and The Pittsburgh Women's Critique Group. She enjoyed traveling with her husband throughout the USA and abroad, and spending time every summer with family and friends at Deer Valley YMCA Family Camp in Fort Hill, PA. An avid tennis player and a gardener, she also liked going to galleries, museums, and the theater. She was a longtime member of Hamilton Presbyterian Church in Bethel Park, PA, singing in the choir and participating in Bible Study. Friends and family will be received at JOHN F. SLATER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood, PA 15227 on Friday, December 27, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. where a prayer will be held on Saturday morning at 10:30. Funeral service at 11:30 a.m. in Hamilton Presbyterian Church.
