JOSEPH RAGAN Age 88, of New Alexandria, born February 23, 1931, in Braddock Hills, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2019, with his daughters by his side. He was the son of the late George and Mary Teply Ragan. Joe was the beloved husband of the late JoAnn (Litzinger) Ragan. Joe was adored by his children, Lisa Chedrick (John) of Delaware, Linda Munzek (Scott) of Bell Township, and Laura Sharp (Martin) of Delmont. Pappy will be sadly missed by his cherished grandchildren, Chelsea Lehman (Frank) and Donald Chedrick, Amanda and Megan Munzek, Marisa and Abby Sharp. Joe was preceded in death by his sisters, Alice Kopcho, Florence Gallo and bothers, George, Gary and Robert Ragan. He is survived by longtime family friends, Virginia (daughter-by-chance) and William Friend, his brother, Edward (Trudy) Ragan of Monroeville, and sister, Jane Limbacher (the late Art) of Cabet. He was loved by many nieces and nephews. Joe thoroughly enjoyed his 54-year career as a cemeterian. He started as a teen at Monongahela Cemetery and later went on to manage Braddock Cemetery. With his wife JoAnn, he founded Ragan Cemetery Service. He purchased Chartiers Cemetery in Carnegie, and successfully managed it until his retirement. He was a life member of American Legion, AMVETS, Korean War Veteran's and Disabled American Veteran's Associations. In his retirement, Joe loved spending time with his grandchildren and tending to his extensive garden. Thank you to neighbors Kim, John and Blake Cecchini for looking after him. The family would like to thank Senior Helpers and Kathy and Jerry Sheffler for their diligence and dedication. After 56 years of marriage, it is understandable how one couldn't wait another moment to be reunited with their soul mate. MORRIS SHRATTER Age 94, died Sunday, July 14, 2019. He leaves his wife, Shirley, of 67 years; and his son, Ellis. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA since his early years, Morris was dedicated to the Pittsburgh community, he started out as a lifeguard at Highland Park pool. As a good patriot he served in the Air Force during World War II, after high school early graduation. In his 30 years of public service he worked as a history teacher, guidance counselor and was the head of Scholars Program. He also was an active member and leader at Recovery International for 20 years. Specially dedicated to the jewish community, Morris was president of the Jewish War Veterans in Pittsburgh for four years where he distributed many scholarships. He helped jewish immigrants to become citizens, led a discussion group at Rodef Shalom as a volunteer for ten years, he and his wife established a group "Spur" to gain promotions for jewish teachers. After retiring, he and his wife Shirley established a TV program "More Than Just Learning", to interview well known people about the importance of education. On July 6, 1995 Mayor Murphy issued a proclamation making the day "Morris and Shirley Shratter Day". He also won one gold and two silver medals in swimming at the 2008 National Senior Olympics. Morris will be greatly missed by his wife, Shirley; son, Ellis; nieces and nephews, Marvin, Rochelle Pallock, Mindy Freeman, Tina and James Blake, Lee and Kelly Shratter and Robin Taylor. ROBERT MICHAEL FEDARKO Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at the age of 79 following a long and courageously fought battle with prostate cancer. Bob was born on August 16, 1939 to the late Michael and Anne (Contenti) Fedarko of Monongahela, where he grew up and graduated from Monongahela High School prior to enlisting in the United States Marine Corps, in which he served honorably for three years. Bob was preceded in death by his mother, his father, and his two sisters, Lorraine and Dolores. In addition to Rita, his wife of 54 years, and his dedicated sons, Kevin of Flagstaff, AZ and Aaron of Camden, ME, he is survived by a loving daughter-in-law, Molly, and two cherished grandsons, Simon and Wilson, as well as numerous relatives, in-laws, friends, and family, all of whom are remembered with deep affection and love. He was a hairdresser for 51 years, most of which were spent at Fedarko's Hair Fashions in Oakmont, which he and his wife operated together until 2012. He was known for his quick wit and warm personality. During seven years of retirement, he found peace and comfort in nature, especially the view of the farm and fields from his own back yard. Bob and his family would like to express their gratitude for the care he received at the Hillman Cancer Center, especially from Drs. Rahul Parikh and Leonard Appleman. Profound gratitude is also extended to the dedicated and compassionate members of the team at Family Hospice and Palliative Care who saw him through his final four months, most especially Stacey Schifino, Keshia Thomas, Hal Lederman, and Father Edward Pehanich; to George Tartal at Comfort Keepers; to Sandy Stephens; and to Lisa Schaeffer at Canterbury Place, where he spent his final two days. Bob would also want this, the final testament to a life well-lived, to include a note of deepest gratitude to Rita for her devotion, her love, and the “expertise” she lavished on him with unstinting selflessness during his darkest hours of need. Friends and relatives are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 444 St. John St., Pittsburgh, PA 15239. BARBARA THERESA (BELIN) FAHEY On Saturday, July 13, 2019, while a resident at Concordia of Monroeville in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. Barbara was born on October 2, 1937, in Clearfield, Pennsylvania, and was the daughter of the late Carl A. Belin, Sr., and Margaret Danneker Belin. Barbara graduated from St. Francis High School in 1955, and from the Villa Maria College in Erie, Pennsylvania in 1959. She was a teacher at Ashtabula, Ohio from 1959 – 1961, Army/Air Force School in Sweibrucken, Germany from 1961-1962, schools in Erie, Pennsylvania from 1963 to 1966, and schools in the Pittsburgh area from 1967 - 1978. Barbara was married to Thomas Fahey of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on August 13, 1966 until his death on February 2, 1977. She lived in the Pittsburgh area until her death. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her sisters, Mary K. McCooey and Susan Zirzow, and her brother, Michael Belin. She is survived by her brother, Carl A. Belin, Jr., of Clearfield, and her sisters, Margaret D. Shearer, of Clearfield, Molly Quinn, of Littleton, Colorado, and Sally Belin, of Denver, Colorado, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. DOLORES ROSE (CAVLOVICH) HELIDES A humble woman of Glenshaw, PA, peacefully passed with her usual spunk, on Monday, July 15, 2019 surrounded by her children and joined her beloved husband, Sava in Heaven. Born June 1, 1930 to Mark Cavlovich and Rose (Kekich) in Pittsburgh PA, she was raised in Etna, PA along with her three brothers, Edward, Joseph and Raymond. She graduated from Mt. Alverna High School in Millvale, PA and was a lifetime member of St. Nicholas Church of Millvale, PA. While working in Taunton, MA she met Sava, moved back to the Pittsburgh area and together they raised six children. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her brother, Joseph and his wife, Barbara Cavlovich; and her brother, Edward. She is survived by son, Steve of Glenshaw, PA; son, Mark and his wife, Beth, of Bairdford, PA; their child, Marissa, her son, Dominik and her fiancé, Lucas Grosick of Cheswick, PA; daughter, Mary and her husband, David Radacosky, of Pittsburgh, PA; their sons, Matthew of Seattle, WA and Nicholas of Boulder, CO; daughter, Joanne and her husband, Brian Custard of Meadville, PA; son, Paul of Pittsburgh, PA; daughter, Elaine and her husband, Mark Lasher and their daughter, Samantha of Allison Park, PA; brother, Raymond and wife, Nancy of Pittsburgh, PA; sister-in-law, Margie Cavlovich, Theckla Snell; and many nieces and nephews. “God Speaks in Silence” – was her favorite saying or maybe just some way to keep her six kids quiet. Born March 30, 1979 in Pittsburgh. Loving son of Paul and Debra (Winters) Hallam; loving brother of Scott (Allison Baldwin) Hallam and Shane (Amanda Stefanowicz) Hallam; loving uncle of Emma, Daniel, Isabel Hallam; loving great-uncle of Sid Hallam; also survived by aunts, uncles, and cousins; Darlene (Gene) Lyon, Kristine (Gary) Adams, Linda Nuttall, Jennifer Nuttall, Rebecca (Mark) Addison, Clayton D. PEGGY LOU (WEYANT) PROSSER Of Monroeville, age 78, died peacefully at home with her family present, on Monday, July 15, 2019. Adoring and beloved wife of Thomas V. Prosser, III for 56 years. Peggy was preceded in death by her sister, Esther Mole and her brothers, Lester, Walter and Terence Weyant. She is survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Peggy was a graduate of the Columbia Hospital School of Nursing and served her entire career in Columbia's Emergency Room. She retired when Columbia Hospital closed. In retirement, Peggy continued as a caregiver, to her mother, her mother-in-law, and her nieces and nephews. ERNEST "ERNIE" STANGER Passed away July 15, 2019. He was 89. Ernie grew up in Philadelphia and Abington, PA before settling in Feasterville, PA in 1957. The only child of German immigrants, as an adult he forged strong bonds with extended family, creating connections that remain today between family on both continents. Neighbors, friends, colleagues and family knew Ernie as an incredibly kind, generous and lovely man devoted to family. He deeply loved his wife of more than 60 years, Margie, and often expressed appreciation for his good fortune. They moved in 2011 from Bucks County to Pittsburgh, PA where he quickly made many friends and was an active member of the Masonic Village retirement community. He and Margie enjoyed doing many things together including tennis, learning to dance, reviewing potential scripts for the Bristol Riverside Theater, and traveling. Favorite trips included their voyage to Antarctica and those to Europe, Greece and Yellowstone National Park. Ernie was a steadfast, patient and loving father and doting grandfather. An accomplished handyman, he helped his grown kids complete extensive home remodeling projects. He played endless games with the grandchildren when they were young and later regaled them with his high school pranks. He worked for Bell Telephone in network administration for more than 40 years and knew Philadelphia well. He enjoyed the city, was a Temple University Owl and enjoyed collecting the 1990 U.S. Census in the region. He was a long-serving member of Northampton Presbyterian Church in Holland, PA as an elder and committee member. He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during the Korean War. His commitment to service remained throughout his life as a Master Mason of the Freemasons, member of the Kiwanis and through ongoing charitable support of many children's and environmental charities. He is survived by his wife, Margie, and children Margaret (Meg) Stanger, Ernest Stanger (grandchildren Ernest and Nicholas) and Jean and Brian McAulay (grandchildren Ian and Julia). A memorial service to honor Ernie Stanger will be held at Northampton Presbyterian Church in Holland, PA Saturday, July 20, 2019, following a private burial. MARIE T. LANGAN A devout Catholic committed to her church community. A nurse-turned-hospital executive who dedicated nearly 60 years to helping patients and leading nurses, Marie Langan was instrumental in the opening of Forbes Regional Hospital in 1978 as the Vice President of Nursing. A generous, fiercely independent lifelong Pittsburgher. These words and more describe Marie who died suddenly on July 15, 2019 at her home in Munhall, PA. Born in West Homestead, PA she was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Ann (Kavanagh) Langan and was also preceded in death by three brothers, Francis, Tom, and Bill. Education was important to Marie having graduated from the Pittsburgh Hospital School of Nursing, California University of Pennsylvania, and Carnegie Mellon University. She was the consummate professional, described by many as "a true nurses' nurse," always advocating not only for her patients but for the nursing profession. Marie had many nieces, nephews throughout the Pittsburgh area and around the country - and many friends at St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish in Homestead where you would regularly find her volunteering at the fish fry, baptisms, showers, weddings and myriad other special events in the church hall. Marie was know for her style and class. Friends and family will honor her life in R.V. STEPHEN G. GETNER Age 78, of Butler peacefully passed away on July 15, 2019. He was the son of the late Stephen J. Getner and the late Helen T. Pundzak Getner. He was the husband of Dolores, “Dee” A. Bitkowski Getner, they were married May 22, 1965. He was the father of Christine L. Getner and his beloved dog, Tucker. He was a brother to Kenneth (Paulette) Getner of Duquesne, Dianne (Kenneth) Awenowicz of West Mifflin and Richard (Valerie) Getner of Fort Myers, FL. He was an uncle to nine nieces and nephews and a great-uncle to twelve nieces and nephews. He retired from Nationwide as a Claims Manager at the age of 55 years, following 30 years of service. WILLIAM "BILL" SELES On Monday, July 15, 2019 at Noon, William Anthony Seles (formerly of Cheswick and Springdale) passed away at the age of 85. Bill, as he was known to many, was a loving husband to his wife, Lydia Ann and wonderful father to three children, Bill (Dorothy), Karen (Jeffrey, deceased) and James (Lynn). He also leaves behind eight grandchildren. Bill was born on July 24, 1933 in Pittsburgh. He grew up in the Lawrenceville section of Pittsburgh, graduating from Central Catholic High School in 1950 and Kiski Prep in 1951. He went on to spend time at The Citadel and attended Duquesne University until he enlisted in the US Army in 1953. That same year, he married the love of his life, Lydia Ann Flais of Oakmont. They spent the next 65 years together in which their love grew stronger every day. Bill was known as a very motivated and driven businessman. He owned a variety of businesses, including The Crystal Bar in Cheswick for 20 years. Bill became a large polka radio personality, travel agent and was appointed as District Justice in the Allegheny Valley. His overwhelming passion for Polka Music was at the epicenter of a great run as “Western Pennsylvania's Polka Ambassador”. He parlayed this passion into worldwide touring and the legendary Seven Springs Polka Festivals which lasted for four decades. Bill was also in the Cleveland Polka Hall of Fame inducted to the Trustees Honor Roll in November of 1991 for his contributions as a heavyweight promoter to the music. In the later years, he was emotionally moved by the number of people that would approach him to let him know how much happiness he brought to their lives with his polka activities. He was grateful to see other people found this to be such a positive influence on their lives. Bill and Lydia Ann also spent quality time and made many friends in Southern California and South Carolina. His radio show sign off was to his wife, Lydia Ann. NATHAN WILLIAM KANCZES Age 15, of North Huntingdon on Monday, July 15, 2019 in Meyersdale Medical Center. He was born November 5, 2003, in Pittsburgh, the loving son of William J. and Diane (Saflin) Kanczes, of North Huntingdon. Nathan was a Sophomore Honor Student at Norwin High School, and played baritone for the Norwin High School Marching Band and also a member of the Norwin Ski Club. Nathan loved spending with his family at their Lake House in Somerset where he enjoyed tubing, riding quads and skiing; he enjoyed video games and magic cards. He was a very nurturing young man who would always help others however and whenever he could. Nathan was looking forward to becoming a Counselor in Training at Camp Kon-O-Kwee in Zelienople next year. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Dylan Kanczes, of North Huntingdon; maternal grandparents, Nick and Josephine Saflin, of Latrobe; paternal grandparents, William and Victoria Kanczes, of Pittsburgh; aunts, Josie Davis and her husband, William, of North Huntingdon, Farrah Kanczes, of Pittsburgh and cousins, Marisa and Sierra Davis. Friends will be received 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the OTT FUNERAL HOME, INC., 805 Pennsylvania Avenue, Irwin. Parting prayers will be held 9:00 a.m. Friday in the funeral home followed by a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in the Immaculate Conception Church. ROBIN LYNN WAREHAM Age 55, of Murrysville went to be with the Lord on July 11, 2019 after a courageous three and a half year battle with cancer. Robin was an inspiration to everyone around her during her battle. Robin was born July 9, 1964 in Washington, PA. She graduated with a BS in nursing from Alderson Broaddus College followed by a 30+ year career as a pediatric nurse at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Robin's greatest joys in life were her two boys, caring for children during her nursing career and her love for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Robin is survived by her husband of 24 years, Jeff of Murrysville; her prize possessions, sons, Matthew and Michael; her loyal companion, Mya who never left her side during her battle; her parents, Larry J. and Tillie Simpson of Washington, PA; her brother, Larry J. (Beth) Simpson, Jr. of Washington, PA; her sister, Kimberly Reigle of Madison, OH; her sister, Allyson (Mike) Hazzard of Alexandria, VA; her loving nieces, Abigail, Hilary, Hannah, Charlotte, Melynda, Maddie, Claire, Olivia, Lauren, Meaghan and Rae Lynn; her sisters-in-law, Susan (Greg) Nestor and Nancy Wareham. CHARLES S. STONE, M.D. Age 85, of Longwood at Oakmont, formerly of Fox Chapel, passed away peacefully with family at his side on Monday, July 15, 2019. Beloved husband of Susette G. Stone; loving father of the late A. Curtis Stone and Jeffrey D. Stone, M.D. (Marie C.); and cherished grandfather of Pegeen A., Alden C., Bradford D. and Tori A. Stone; brother of Ann Stone Thompson (Kenneth). Born in Altoona Pennsylvania on February 3, 1934. Chuck was a graduate of Wilkinsburg High School ('52) and Penn State University ('56) where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, and PSU Lacrosse team. He has always been a proud “Nittany Lion.” Chuck received his medical degree from Hahnemann Medical College, served as a Navy Lt at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital and NATO Hospital in Naples Italy, where he and Susette acquired their life-long love for Italy and travel. Completed his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at The University of Pittsburgh and was an early partner of Oakland Orthopaedic Associates (Now GPOA). He subspecialized in spinal deformity surgery, loved his work at the former Home for Crippled Children, Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, Presbyterian University, St. Francis and St Margaret's Hospitals. Chuck truly enjoyed his many years teaching the University of Pittsburgh Department of Orthopaedics surgical residents. He was a team Physician for the Pittsburgh Penguins. He loved hockey, football, boating, history, golf, food and most importantly, friends and family. No Visitation. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 20, 2019, at 1 p.m., at Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church, 384 Fox Chapel Rd.
