She was born March 21, 1929, in Timblin, a daughter of the late Valentine John and Mary Magdalene (Sejmej) Poremba. Was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Zafaras; and siblings, Valerie Rupp, Margaret Mikulich, and John and Chester Poremba. Stella was a retired administrator for Braddock General Hospital and a longtime active member of St. Robert Bellarmine Church. She was a longtime volunteer for Meals-On-Wheels and a member of the Red Hatters. She is survived by her children, Sylvia J. Kelly, Craig A. Zafaras, and Cheryl J. Early and her husband, Scott; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; also nieces and nephews. STELLA (YOUNG) JOHNSON Age 94, of Richland Township, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2019. Born on October 30, 1924 in Paola, Kansas, Stella met her beloved husband, Edsel Johnson, at a roller rink in Kansas during WWII. While he was serving in the Navy, she was a secretary at Sunflower Gunpowder Plant. They married on March 21, 1946. The only thing fiercer than her character was her love for her husband. They lived in Missouri, California, and Kentucky before settling in Gibsonia, PA to raise their family in Orchard Park for over 50 years. She supported her children as PTA President, a Cub Scout Den Mother, Brownie Leader and Richland High School Band Boosters President. Stella was also active as North Hills Baptist Church Secretary, a member of Eastern Star, and John Heinz's campaign volunteer in 1971. At 4'10' with bright red hair, an indomitable spirit and sharp sense of humor, her nickname was Torchy. She could put you in place as quickly as she could make you laugh and her stories were many. She was an amazing cook and a wonderful gardener. With her neighbors, she played charades or had International Dinner pot luck parties. She had a life well lived. Stella is survived by her brother, Noah Young; children, Linda Murphy (Lew), Retired Navy Captain Steve Johnson (Karen), and Peggy Tobin; her grandchildren, Brandy (Mike) Keenan, Logan Murphy, Devon Murphy, Cheryl (Marty) Machi, Matt Johnson, Erin (Bryan) Dyer, Katie Tobin, and Alex Tobin; great-grandchildren, Phineas, Eowyn, Beckett, Hobbes, Rex, Riley and Ava. FREDERICK (FRED) DONATELLI, JR. Age 87, of Ross Township, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 6, 2019. He was born on February 17, 1932, in Pittsburgh, PA, to the late Frederick, Sr. and Celeste Donatelli. In 1965, he founded Fred Donatelli Cemetery Memorials in the North Hills of Pittsburgh, followed by Pittsburgh Cremation Service and OakCrest Pet Crematory. These companies demonstrate his exemplary work ethic and strong commitment to the memorial industry. Fred was active with the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science (PIMS), most recently serving as Chairman of the Board of Directors. He was a member of Incarnation Parish's Finance Council, a Ross Township Commissioner, and a past President of the West View Area Kiwanis. There were many other professional organizations that benefitted from Fred's involvement and his belief in the importance of a good attitude in life. In his retirement years, Fred loved chatting with visitors at the office, enjoying lunch with his wife at Rico's Restaurant, and attending many family events. He was well-known amongst friends and family for his practical jokes and exceptional sense of humor. He could frequently be found taking his family on long cross-country road trips, volunteering on the Parish Council and Commissions at St. Raphael's Parish, and in later years, supporting his grandchildren at countless dance recitals and sporting events. One of her most treasured memories was becoming a grandmother and watching Karen become a mother to Sarah and Jake. She was a great cook and loved to prepare Slovak dishes. Mary Ann was also a member of the Holy Trinity Altar Guild. Although Mary Ann was plagued with illness for many years, she and John loved one another unconditionally and John was her sole caregiver. PATRICK FRANK CORTAZZO Age 87, of Penn Twp., passed away in his home on Tuesday, May 7, 2019. Pat was born on November 12, 1931 in Wilmerding, the son of the late Frank and Lena (Ingagliato) Cortazzo. Pat was retired as a teacher and coach with 35 years of service from the Penn-Joint, Trafford and Penn-Trafford High Schools. Pat is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Lois (Wilson) Cortazzo; his four children; his four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and two sisters. JAMES OLEJARZ Age 75, of Charlottesville, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2019. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on November 6, 1943, to the late Michael Henry Olejarz, Sr. and Wanda Kriston Olejarz. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Henry Olejarz, Jr. Mr. Olejarz, or Mr. O. as he was known by many, proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. After his service, Mr. O spent many years working as a Grocer in Charlottesville, notably at Kroger, where he worked for many years. Mr. O is survived by his sister-in-law, Paula Olejarz; his niece, Mona-Lisa Traina; and his nephew, Micheal John Olejarz, his wife, Joan and their children, Amanda and Michael. He is also survived by many other extended family members. A funeral service celebrating James' life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 10, 2019, at HILL AND WOOD FUNERAL HOME, in Charlottesville, VA. He will be interred at Quantico National Cemetery at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 13, 2019. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
